Good but not good enough
27 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The movie has a great plot but lacks character development. Funny, the ones you really connect with in the movie are supporting roles. They missed the opportunity to talk more about Snow's family, why they were in that position and why he was in real need of winning the games as a mentor. Also, after the second part of the movie, it feels too long in the wrong parts of the plot. They don't show how enough material to make you believe Snow and Lucy are really in love. They don't go deep enough in why Snow shifts his way of thinking and turns to the dark side. It all happened in the blink of an eye, ending the movie right after it happens leaving everything a mystery. All aside, I really hope they keep making movies in the Hunger Games universe, like the games of the victors and their personal stories.

Blockbuster (2022)

Don't waste your time
3 November 2022
I succeeded watching the pilot episode (even when I wanted to stop the show a few times) but by the second episode it was too painful to watch. I'm being 100% honest. The jokes are bad, you can see the writers tried to be clever but failed, not even one joke was funny. The characters turn out to be lame, they don't add a anything to the comedy of the show. The trailer had potential, it could have been a different plot and maybe it would've turned out to be decent. Seriously don't waste your time, there is nothing to see here apart from cringe-y jokes and mediocre acting, you're better off watching Brooklyn 99 on repeat.

Don't Worry Darling (I) (2022)
7/10
Go watch it, darling
26 September 2022
I thought I was going to dislike this movie but it turns out to be an okay film. I do feel the beginning of the movie feels rushed because they don't take the time to explain anything (they go straight forward to the breakpoint), some scenes are repetitive making it a bit slow and they also don't explain to you much of the plot-twist when they finally reveal it (it would have been interesting to know how it worked) but overall the movie is okay, it keeps you entertained, the acting of Florence is impeccable and you stay on the edge the whole film. Harry is not the best actor there is but he did the job decently, no complaints. Go watch it, darling, and don't listen to the critics.

Enola Holmes (2020)

Enola, a fun movie BUT not a Holmes movie.
27 September 2020
The movie is fun, you instantly love Enola and her uniqueness, the love bond with her mother it's something not so often showed nowadays and I love that. If you want a relax movie with just a little bit of mystery, this is your go to, even when the middle of the movie turns a bit slow. Don't expect a Sherlock movie, this is the very lighter version of it. And, of course, it's a feminist movie but it's not forced as it often seems in tons of movies, so I aplaud it.

How does this movie have 7.5 rating?
29 September 2018
This movie is not a good romance movie nor a comedy either. It has 3-4 comedy scenes, the rest is drama. I gave it 6 stars because I liked Singapore and the parties they throw looked fun, but in general, I don't know what's the fuzz about this movie.

Sierra Burgess is indeed a Loser.
10 September 2018
I was excited to watch this movie, Netflix has been making decent rom-coms lately and this plot had a teenage-catcher plot that no one can't deny. The movie starts good, the characters are great, but I want to focus on Sierra:

They didn't give her qualities for you to make you feel connected to that character. I'm not talking about popularity, I'm talking about quirks, things they like to do that make her look interesting. Yeah, she is a cute nerd, she is a kind girl (most part of the movie) but apart from that, what's her catch? What makes her special? Does she like to spend her weekend reading? Give me something. They didn't even give her insecurities importance, only mentioned once.

They mention -emphasis on the mention- she likes to sing but during the movie she only does once. She sings a beautiful song, at the last 10 minutes of the movie... Thank you. It still wasn't enough to make you feel connected with her after what she did to her friend in the movie. (I'm trying not to spoil here) and, after what she did, the conflict was solved in like, 30 seconds. Wtf.

Her character is boring. Her relationship with Jamey is boring and not believable at all. Wow, they connected sending each other's pictures of animals. How romantic -sarcasm alert- and to wrap it all, she end up being a jerk, and for me, only jerks are losers. So yes, Sierra is indeed a loser.

Now, let's get to the other characters.

I liked Jamey's character and Dan's, they are well portrayed. Thumbs up.

But last but not least, Veronica. She steals the sentimental catch. She ends up being the character with more sentimental appeal. When she takes her bad-girl-mask she is actually a better person than Sierra.

In the middle of the movie I thought Veronica was going to end up with Jamey instead because there was more chemistry between them than with Sierra. Veronica was too kind to Sierra, really.

Overall, I wouldn't watch the movie again, a good idea with an average/bad team behind it. A recommendation to Netflix, a good script changes with a decent director is everything, every word counts.

Dissapointed but not surprised (contains spoilers of the book and movie)
28 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
(this entire review is a fight between book vs movie)

I was really excited to watch this movie, like REALLY excited.

When I saw the movie poster in theaters (like three weeks ago) it actually didn't caught my attention but when I found out it was based in a book, it was game for me. So I read the book in a week and fell in love with everything in it.

Since the beginning of the book I found it so fun, Wade/Parzival character's was funny and witty and you could easily feel connected with him and his way of telling the story. The whole book is filled with 80's references, pop-culture, music, good movies references that I have watched million times and even books. It was everything I have loved and more. An 80's lover dream.

Needless to say, I had big expectations for this film even when the trailer started to ruining it for me.

But the movie....

It's worth the watch but it's SO different from the book. That's why I gave it 6 stars, because if you haven't read the book, you will enjoy it.

1- Tye Sheridan was born to play Wade. He is exactly how I imagine him in the book. But in here, the script and direction plays a big game. His character did not only lack that witty-funny-charming-nerdy persona, he also was a pretty null actor. That means, bad direction from Spielberg.

2- I understand the change of plot and script because in some way they have to make the audience connected to the story, like making Art3mis meet Parzival in the first half of the movie, but still, I feel like they didn't give them enough time to connect. That first "I love you" scene was so forced and out of nowhere when in the book they spend months talking to each other.

3- Thumbs up to the animation of the movie. It really felt like being inside of a game, which gives the movie that geeky touch the book has.

4- The movie lacks drama. Yeah, it's true, this is not a dramatic movie but it needs the drama to build a great connection audience-characters, and the book gives a whole Almanac to chose from: At3mis 'breaking up' with Wade and him going into a depression phase to then work things out with himself. Losing his family and his only friend in the real world, the old lady I don't remember her name. I-Rok being a pain in the a** and selling them to the IOI after supposedly being 'their friend'. None of that was well put in the movie.

5- Thumbs up for the representation of Halliday.

6- OG needed more recognition in the movie, he did a lot for the kiddos.

7- This may not be as important, but I think it could have had more technology or at least a better representation. The only tech we were introduced in the movie was inside the IOI or that suit Wade got. It's sci-fie, it's Spielberg. Give me more.

8- The gates to get the keys. The first one in the movie, even when in the book had a geeky-touch having to play a classic game inside of a game, was fun. It was a race and it showed that Wade was 'the chosen one' to win by figuring out the clue. But the rest of the tests?

The Shining, really? I don't even have words.

I did like the third test, it was what we needed but it was too short.

9- The ending. Ugh. I have to say that I love a cute love-is-all-that-matters ending (like the end of the book) But this was so cheesy. Just two teenagers making out. Really? That was the ending?

It does gives a certain hope for a second movie (Cline is already talking about writing a sequel to the book so I wouldn't doubt there's a sequel to the movie) but come on, that was a lame ending.

-

Overall, the movie was just another movie. 6/10. I expected more.

I apologize if this review was mostly focused on the war book vs movie, but if you haven't read the book, DO IT. It's waaaaay more epic.
