UHF (1989)
Pure entertainment!
As a "Weird Al" fan, I was dying to see this movie - now that I have, I was not disappointed! This movie is very cleverly produced and for only being an hour and half, it's well-paced and rarely "boring". The humour is original and clean, with a variety thrown in. It has the right balance of mostly laughs with a little "touchy feely" parts. Each actor was perfect for their roles, too! Being that Al is a musician, you might think that the movie is a musical with his hilarious songs every fifteen minutes - but only three of the actual songs from the original soundtrack are used.
So I stress, it's a great movie and I will definitely watch it again and again!
Hôjô Tokimune (2001)
Perfect drama!
I got hooked on "Hojo Tokimune" in 2001 when it aired here in early 2001. I loved the drama because it was masterfully acted, written and produced. Watching it, I immediately formed a strong attachment to many of the characters. There really isn't anything I don't like about "Hojo" because it was so well put together. Everything from the tragic struggle between Tokimune and Tokiyori, the threat of Mongolian invasion, and the fighting between the clans all help make the show so suspenseful and dramatic. What makes it even better is how closely they followed history; many of the head characters were actual historical people. As far aesthetics go, the make-up, costume and scenery are beautiful. It really is just a wonderful drama, probably the best television show I have ever watched. If you liked "Hojo Tokimune", you may also like "Toshie & Matsu" or "Yoshitsune". Both of those are also excellent dramas, released in 2002 and 2005, respectively.
