No Vacancy (2005)
An even look at an important issue.
No Vacancy is a documentary about one of the world's most pressing, yet often ignored, issues; over population. It starts off saying that in our lifetime the the population of the earth is expected to soar well above 13 billion, a number most believe would be impossible to sustain. The movie brings the viewer around the world, examining how different cultures view reproduction, and the effects of that on family size. From India, to the US, to Iran, to Mexico, the movie is quite in depth, and in many cases surprising (especially in Iran). The film does something that is quite refreshing, considering many modern documentaries, and that is that it ends on an almost positive note. WHile much of the film is sad, frightening, and negative, in the end it points out that, while it sucks now, people have finally NOTICED it sucks, and begun to fix it. If that trend continues, which this film might help, the world might be okay!

Quite a treat
I saw this a few months back and I thought it was just great. Just long enough, just enough little twists, just enough humor, just enough character. The character of the ninja seemed a little weird, maybe even corny, at first. Very quickly, though, he came into his own. He was SUPPOSED to feel out of place, thats really the whole point of the movie. The introduction flashback confused me at first, but that really made the movie all the better. You get to see the lead up events unraveling the confusion presented in the intro. All the twisted threads came out. Very impressive for 15 minutes! I can't think of anything I didn't like. There were a few individual lines I would have cut, but if you have a chance to see it, take it!
History of the World: Part I (1981)
I'm not sure if even smiled, let alone laughed.
I cannot believe this movie ever made it to theaters, not to mention DVD. The jokes just weren't there! None of them were funny. This may be in part because Mel RE-USED JOKES FROM HIS OTHER MOVIES. He took jokes directly from young frankenstein and murdered them by putting them in this movie. And I also noticed that several of the jokes that failed (all of them) he re-used in some of his later movies!
The movie is awful: 1/10
