I may be a bit late on the lost bandwagon but I genuinely found it to be the greatest TV series I've ever seen and I'm an avid TV watcher. The plot was complex and confusing but that's what made it so great and kept me so gripped.
The characters were also a huge plus point. There was such a complexity in every character on the show with every character showing more than one dimension to their persona. Another plus was the amount of characters, which at first I thought might be difficult to cope with. However, this amount of character left doors open for the producers and also made sure there was someone that every watcher could feel a connection, positive or negative, too.
As for the critics, the only possible explanation in my eyes is that they could not deal with the sci-fi elements of the show and expected too much realism, that they were too impatient to wait for the shows mysterious to be revolved or simply, they did not understand the premise of LOST.
