Again, if you didn't see the warning above, this review contains HUGE SPOILERS!
So, I actually had quite high expectations when going to see this movie. I'm a huge fan of PA 1-3. The fourth entry was a disaster though..
PA: The Marked Ones wasn't as bad ass the fourth one, but still not worth watching at all. They killed the "PA-style" completely. I get that they tried to do something different this time around, but change isn't always a good thing.
First off, this is NOT a horror movie, because it's not scary or disturbing in any way. They present the paranormal elements in a completely awful way. A demon talking through a Simon-Says toy?! Please.. The worst thing is the way the character react to the "creepy" and "haunted" plastic toy and the other things happening. It seems like they don't find it strange in any way! If I learned that ANYTHING was being haunted by a ghost or something like that, I would at least be surprised. I would react. But these people...yeah. It's just stupid. I jumped in my seat one time, from a high noise. Creative jump-scare :p
I love found-footage movies. But the, maybe, most important thing about these kind of movies is that it has to at least seem believable. Hey, I know it's not actual "found footage", but still, I'd like to at least be able to imagine it is. If it's not believable, it's not scary! In the first three PA movies, they held back on the supernatural manifestations. The suspense and your fear of what was about to happen was the key element. But here it's way to much! "Stuff" happens through- out the whole movie, so there isn't any suspense to build up.
In other "possession"-movies, it slowly breaks down the eventual character. But here? It makes him a super-hero! Where have I seen this before? One word: CHRONICLE. Half of the stuff in this movie is ripping off that movie.
So, what about the ending? Even PA 4 had a awesome and scary-as-hell- ending, I'd give it props for that. But the ending of this movie completely sucked. The makers tried to make it massive and "twisted", but they tried way too hard. It was just confusing.. Time-travel in a PA movie..that's..stupid..
