Enjoyable and Engrossing Mystery
10 May 2024
A very enjoyable and engrossing mystery-thriller! I like the 1959 as much as the 1939 versions of the story. The '59 is slightly altered from the '39 and the book but it does not hamper the story.

I'm not sure whom I love more as Sherlock: Basil Rathbone or Peter Cushing. Really a tie for first place./The rest of the cast in the '59 works on all levels.

Who or what is killing the heirs of the Baskervilles? Is is a supernatural creature as many are led to believe? Will Sir Henry Baskerville (Christopher Lee) survive or is he the next victim on the moors?

Fun movie and if you haven't seen this Sherlock Holmes adaption then you should treat yourself and find a copy!

Fun Little Romp
6 May 2024
While this may not be the best of the Rathbone-Bruce Sherlock series, it is a fun little romp on a ship heading to Algiers. I quite enjoyed it.

Dr. Watson gets to play a bigger role in this seaworthy adventure - much as he did in 'The Hound of the Baskervilles'. Rathbone and Bruce are in top from. Quite a bit of suspense, suspicion and mystery.

Luxury sailing, eerie fog, mysterious Prince, the strange Sheila Woodbury, and a leave-you-guessing until the ending story. Not many will guess what Sherlock will deduce in the end.

If you are a fan of the Rathbone-Bruce Sherlock-Waton team or just like a good Sherlock mystery then give 'Pursuit to Algiers' a whirl!

Cute Elvis Film EE-I-EE-I-O
6 April 2024
This is another typical but cute Elvis film. Here we have Elvis with two girls after him while he's on tour, jewel thieves in the mix and a murderer.

One of Elvis' girls, Jill, is underage but almost 18 years of age and she has inherited millions. Jill's uncle has been dipping into her inheritance and hired a killer to get rid of her. This is the 'exciting' parts of the film.

Side note: Elvis is the only person I know of that can sing 'Old McDonald Had A Farm' and make it sound half way decent. Ha!

There are some pretty good songs in this film - though some are questionable.

Over all not a bad fair. Enjoyed the show.

Action Packed
3 February 2024
If you like sword and sandal films then you might like this one. Northmen is an action packed adventure film. Not the greatest movie to graze the screen but one that enjoyable to watch on a boring, rainy Saturday afternoon.

The acting is fairly decent, the costumes look and feel a bit authentic, and the sets are good for a film of this nature.

The story is just okay - really they do not flesh out each of the characters enough to really get attached to them. Would have been nice to know a bit more of their backgrounds and to know more about their journey across the sea.

Overall an alright rainy day film.

Spartacus (1960)

A Superb Classic Epic
20 November 2023
One of the greatest epic historical dramas I've ever seen. I grew up with this film and years later I bought the DVD and recently rewatched it. I believe I enjoy the film much better as an adult because I understand what is going on in a much deeper way than when I was young.

Stellar cast: Kirk Douglas, Charles Laughton, Tony Curtis, Laurence Olivier, Jean Simmons - to name a few.

Directing by Stanley Kubrick, top cinematography, and the costumes and set designs are eye-candy.

This film is based on real life events and a real life man called Spartacus. Though not 100% in the end, the movie does a wonderful job of telling us what happened.

For those that do not know: The real Spartacus wasn't crucified; he died in battle but around 6,000 of his followers were captured and they were crucified. The rest of the followers died in battle defending their right to freedom.

Highly recommended film!

Good Entry of the Series
9 November 2023
This film is a part of the Warwick Davis Leprechaun franchise. Davis did not return for this film because he is raising a family so Linden Porco accepted the part of our little green friend. Porco is a fine substitute while Davis is away.

This Leprechaun entry is not for squeamish - possibly the goriest of all the films.

The rhyming is in good timing, the jokes are sometimes really funny and the story isn't all that bad. The acting is alright for a film of this type.

I will say that I was mad that Ozzie died, but he came back as a helpful ghost and I guess that made up for it. I loved the character Ozzie in the original film - so upset he's gone now.

A Far Cry From Warwick Davis
9 November 2023
This particular Leprechaun film has nothing to do with the Warwick Davis film series. The so-called Leprechaun here resembles a deformed Nosferatu x Pumpkinhead and walks like Gollum. The Warwick Davis Leprechaun films are what we all expect an evil Leprechaun to be - this 'Origins' Leprechaun is just an awful looking creature - what you can see of it and it's not Leprechaun like at all. Most of the time when the Leprechaun is shown the camera is blurry - I guess to hide the dumb make-up job.

Only 2 characters I cared about in the entire movie were Sean and David - and they were both killed. The rest of the characters were as flat as a board with zero character development about them.

It's true that if you watch this film as a creature feature only then the film is mildly entertaining at best.

Feels Like "Leprechaun" Again
9 November 2023
This 6th installment of the Leprechaun franchise feels like a "Leprechaun" film again. The 4th and 5th films seemed to somewhat loose what the films are suppose to be about - not that they were horrible films but they skidded away from the core or main idea of these movies.

I like this 6th film of the series; I had quite a few laugh out loud moments while watching our little green friend get revenge on the greedy group that stole his gold.

Plenty of hijinks, one liners, and creative deaths to watch here.

Great casting; everyone was spot-on with their characters. Warwick Davis as the evil Leprechaun is great as usual.

Solid Story; Not Enough Leprechaun
9 November 2023
Today was the first time I've seen this film. I have to say the story is solid... it's about three rappers named Butch, Stray Bullet, and Postmaster P. Who are striving to make it big in the music industry. The men turn to Mac Daddy (Ice T.) for help but they found none though him. One thing leads to another and the three rappers turn 'gangster' and steals from Mac Daddy. During the chaos, the leprechaun is unleashed and his wicked havoc resumes.

My only problem with the film is not enough leprechaun. Watching the movie, I almost forgot I was watching the Leprechaun film series because our little green friend isn't in the motion picture that long.

Not A Good Entry
8 November 2023
I guess I was hoping this one would be a lot better than it is... I wanted it to be half as good a the previous films but it fails to reach the half way point.

I thought the idea of the Leprechaun in Space would be quite humorous but watching it I found it to be a bad idea. I mean the film is watchable but not good at all. This film is more for die-hard fans of the Leprechaun franchise than for general audiences.

I got a couple of laughs out of the movie but not enough to enjoy the film completely.

The story of this film lacks interest, the special effects alright for this franchise, most of the acting is rather wooden.

Another Fun Installment
8 November 2023
This film went strait to video and was the #1 selling video of 1995 with good reason; the film is quite a fun trip to Las Vegas.

Here we find our little leprechaun in Las Vegas killing off those who has taken his gold shilling. The shilling goes from character to character and one by one they die.

Great casting, quirky story with several hilarious one liners and rhymes from our little green friend. Special effects are a blast to watch - though not great. Hey, this is a fun story none-the-less and worth watching on a boring evening.

I enjoyed watching this movie and will be watching it again in the future.

I Liked it as Much as the First Film
8 November 2023
The real gem here is Warwick Davis - he's pure leprechaun's gold! He perfectly executes his one liners and wicked rhymes.

I found this film as funny with it's corny humor and one liners as the first installment. The idea of a leprechaun being real and reeking havoc over his gold and this time a bride is just too funny to me. The films tickle my funny bone.

Actress Shevonne Durkin was really good - and could actually play The Princess Bride! She's got the look for it. Her acting was good here, as rest of the cast did a bang-up job! They had me laughing hard.

If you like fantasy folklore, comedy-horror, cheesy one liners and strange humor then you might get kick out of this film.

I Find This Film Very Funny
8 November 2023
Leprechaun was made in 1992 but released in theaters across the U. S. January 8, 1993. I did not get a chance to see the film when it was first released but managed to view it a few years later. I laughed my butt off when watched it. Years of no-see and I bought the DVD set recently to rewatch and I had a ball watching it all these years later.

Love the fact leprechaun folklore is being told in movie form but this particular leprechaun is beyond wicked - he's downright evil and hilarious at the same time! He's got the best rhymes and one liners!

I love Warwick Davis; he's one of my favorite actors. Jennifer Aniston is great - in fact the entire cast is good.

If you like odd ball humor, cheesy one liners and folklore fantasy then this is a film for you!

Not My Cup Of Tea
9 October 2023
Mind you I'm not big on action films so you cannot judge this film off my review. I highly recommend the John Wick films to action movie lovers - the films will not disappoint.

I did enjoy the first John Wick movie, it had heart - a man getting revenge for the death of his puppy that his wife gifted him before she died. But this 2nd film isn't my cup of tea. This one is just all action and no heart - which isn't something I care to watch.

In the first film, John was bound by love of his wife and his puppy. In this second film John is bound by a blood oath to help one of his colleagues and I don't care for the lack of heart in this installment.

9 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"I'm not afraid of John Wick!" says Iosef Tarasov but he needs to be. John's last assignment was to kill the Boogyman and then went into retirement from his job as a hitman. Wick married a woman who died early in life but gifted John a puppy before she took her last breath. John was close to the puppy and one day Wick ran across Tarasov who wanted Wick's car; he and some men broke into John's place, beat John, killed the puppy and stole Wick's car. John came out of retirement for revenge. The dangers are all over the place and it was the rich, powerful man that wanted the Boggyman dead's son, Tarasov, is now the man Wick is after.

Pretty good crime-action flick. Have popcorn handy!

Event Magazine Chooses The Musters as the 'Average American Family'
25 September 2023
Event magazine has chosen The Munsters as the 'Average American Family' - sight unseen. They are perfect for the photo shoot and sends out 2 men to photograph them and get the details. When Grandpa hears about this he is insulted by the word 'average' and disappears, jeopardizing the family winning the $5000 prize money.

As always, Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis steals the entire show. The rest of the cast are wonderful in this great episode. And this is Beverley Owens last time playing Marilyn (she left the show to get married).

You can get this episode in the 3-Munster Laugh Pack or the entire Munsters TV Series on dvd or blu-ray. Great for anyone that loves comedy-horror!

The Munsters' Revenge (1981 TV Movie)

A Fun Munsters Movie
25 September 2023
The diabolical Dr. Diablo has a wax museum that many enjoy but that is only a front for his sinister plot to steal good and blame others for the crimes. Many of those was figures are robots that do the bidding of Dr. Diablo - that includes Herman and Grandpa wax figure robots!! It's up to the Munster to prove their innocence.

I remember watching this film when it first aired on TV back in 1981. I enjoyed it then and now. I'm unsure way all the disdain for this movie and it could be because we don't have a grown up Butch Patrick and older Pat Priest along side the rest of the cast - but I'm unsure. I am one that enjoy this film.

Herman Inherits a Mansion in England
25 September 2023
Herman inherits a mansion in England and he is named Lord Munster of the estate. Trouble brews when Freddie Munster isn't named the Lord of the manor. Lady Effigy and Freddie work together to get rid of our beloved Munsters.

As usual, Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis steals the show. Yvonne De Carlo, and Butch Patrick a naturally good in their supporting roles. The studio hired Debbie Watson to play Marilyn - she was fine in the role but I still prefer Pat Priest (call me biased).

I was born in 1972 so I wasn't alive when the film premiered but I did manage to see this movie many years ago when they aired it on TV. I was excited watching it then and re-watching it today I had the same feeling. I completely enjoyed this one.

Teen Wolf Too (1987)

I Liked it as Well as the First Film
14 September 2023
For me, the second film with Justin Bateman is almost as good as the first with Michael J. Fox. The films are similar in that both are teen wolves, both have to do with sports, both have a girl that likes them for who they are but the teen wolves likes the rich snotty girl, both teen wolves have enemies and both teen wolves have teachers and Mr. Howard to look after them. This second film isn't a carbon copy of the first film but they very similar in their formula.

I got a few laughs out of this second film. I also found I like the soundtrack a little better than the first film - but that's personal taste.

Overall, I like this film almost as much as the first movie. I'm not sure why all the hate for this movie.

Fun Werewolf Flick
13 September 2023
This one is a really cute werewolf film concerning a teen boy, Scott Howard (Michael J. Fox), who is an average teenager wishing he was more. Scott starts turning into a werewolf for the first time and freaks out. His father is a werewolf and was hoping his son wasn't afflicted with it too. Scott is on the basketball team and uses his newfound affliction to his advantage but learns it isn't always the answer to life's problems.

Overall a fun and cute film. I personally am not crazy about the soundtrack but others may really enjoy the music. Special effect and make-up done well for the time era this film was made.

Col. Tom Parker's Point of View
13 September 2023
First thing is: The film is from the viewpoint of Col. Tom Parker. It focuses on his life with Elvis. Overall, this is a very good biographical film of The Colonel and Elvis' partnership and lives.

Secondly: Great casting! Austin Butler took me by surprise by how well he acted out this role. I have a feeling he studied Elvis' life and dance moves well before filming. Tom Hanks was superb as usual and the rest of the cast was just as amazing.

Third: I'm in my 50s (born in 1972) and I have been a lifelong fan of Elvis. I've learn much about him and the Colonel over the years so I can say pretty much everything in this film is 100% accurate.

A worthy film to watch if you love Elvis or just like biographical and/or music films.

The Witches (1990)

Fun Story By Roald Dahl
7 September 2023
I was 18 when this film came out so it never scared me. BUT I can see this movie scaring young kids to a degree because of the witches real form and when people turn into mice. Overall kids can easily watch and enjoy the film without nightmares.

The film is about witches who want to rid the world of children and the Grand Witch (Angelica Huston) has a plan to do just that - by turning all the kids into mice.

A fun story by Roald Dahl. Great performances by the entire cast. Special effects are a little dated but it doesn't spoil the show.

A great film for the entire family especially around Halloween!

Magic, Mischief, and Mayhem
6 September 2023
In 1693 three witches--Winifred (Bette Midler), Mary (Kathy Najmy), and Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) are put to death but vow to return. 300 years later, a male virgin lights the black flame candle on Halloween night as proof the witches aren't real but he gets a surprise when the three witches appear. These witches sucks the souls out of children in order to remain young.

A fun movie with a talking cat, magic, mischief and mayhem. A couple of good songs - Bette Midler belts out 'I Put a Spell on You'. Zany mischief and lots of confusion on screen for some of the characters which produces a few good laughs from the audience.

This Walt Disney film has kids and teens in mind as usual - it's a family film. The is no gore, blood or profanity to be concerned about so parents can relax about allowing their kids to see this one. There is, however, witchcraft involved so if that is a concern then you have warning.

Overall, I enjoyed this film.

Extremely Fun Adventure
4 September 2023
This 3rd installment of the Dungeons & Dragons films is a blast! I had as much fun watching it as I did the first two movies: Dungeons & Dragons (2000) & Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God (2005).

I'm a fan of D&D table top role-playing game and the video game (DDO) so these movies are right up my alleyway.

If you enjoy fantasy films with lots of magic, battles, action and adventure and have never seen a D&D film then you need to give them a try!

Fantasy roleplaying geeks like myself will enjoy this film to the fullest. The only problem is, you'll want to join the this adventures group and can't.

Overly Melodramatic Kinky Film
3 September 2023
I wasn't put off by the kinky whipping before sex but I was totally put off my the overly melodramatic acting by most - especially from Daliah Lavi. Christopher Lee is great as always. The music is overly melodramatic as well.

This is a gothic horror piece so the atmosphere is nice but the film quality is too dark and subdue to see the eye catching colors truly pop out.

I found the story rather a bore - which is strange because the idea behind it sounds appealing.

Over all, I did not enjoy the movie. I'm glad to have finally watched this one for Christopher Lee! He's the only reason to watch.
