Obliterated (2023)
"Obliterated" A Missed Opportunity for Netflix
"Obliterated" is a new addition to Netflix's original content that unfortunately falls flat on multiple fronts. The show, spanning eight episodes, attempts to blend action, comedy, and a government mission plot but struggles to deliver a coherent and engaging viewing experience.
The casting choices, filled with lesser-known actors and lacking the charisma needed to carry the show, do little to elevate the weak script and storyline. Viewers are presented with a mix of uninteresting characters and cringe-worthy dialogue that fails to provide any reason to suspend disbelief.
While some may appreciate the visually appealing cast, the series fails to offer substance beyond the surface. The gratuitous sex and violence appear to be used as a distraction from the nonsensical plot, stereotypical characters, and overall lackluster execution.
The attempt to inject humor often comes off as forced and falls into the realm of childish schoolyard humor. The writing lacks originality and coherence, leaving the audience questioning the choices made in the development of the series.
Despite a few moments of potential intrigue, "Obliterated" struggles to maintain interest, leading to disappointment for those seeking a quality action-comedy series. The show's renewal for another season might leave viewers skeptical about Netflix's direction in original content.
In summary, "Obliterated" is a forgettable series that fails to live up to expectations, leaving audiences questioning the platform's choices in producing such lackluster content.
Rough Diamonds (2023)
Nice jewish crime drama
The series take place in the city of Antwerp and shows the ins and outs of an orthodoxs jewish family. There typical culture, the diamond business, drugscriminals and police. The show is a crime-drama. Well written en well played. Some storylines are too long and boring. But all the way it is one of the best Belgium series i have seen. In Antwerp, the diamond trade is still very lively and so is the Jewish community. The Belgian series Rough Diamonds shows how things are going in the Antwerp diamond district and the Jewish community. Combine these interesting subjects with an exciting crime story and you have a series with a lot of potential. Is it fully utilized? Given the quality of other recent Belgian series, the bar is in any case quite high.
Noah turned his back on his Jewish family and faith years ago and moved to London. When he returns for his younger brother's funeral, it turns out that his family is deeply in debt. Noah does everything he can to get his relatives out of trouble, but that might just drag them deeper into misery.
Rough Diamonds is both exciting and interesting. The Jewish community is rarely given such a major role in series. The makers seem to be making a statement with this, but they also know how to broach a subject that is both current and age-old. The fact that the family gets entangled in the underworld also creates the necessary tension.
Inside Man (2022)
This could be great a show but...
Everything is great about this show: idea, characters, acting, it's funny, combination of 2 story's, etc. , etc.
I liked watching all 4 episodes. Great acting en super dialogues. Some lines of the mean character I've even had to wrote down. Also the side stories are very funny. So far so good. I'll gave it 8 stars.
But the plotholes you fall in are far too big. That's a pity. I'am a flexible viewer en most of the time can I stap over the gab, but after the 3 episode of total of 4. You lost me. Sorry.
I hope there will be a next show with a better plot.
I can't wait. So writers do a better job and you get 8 stars.
Clark (2022)
Funny & Fast
New standard for Netflix series.
Gives a nice progression of time and fits the style of filming of that time period. Funny fast and entertaining. Bill Skarsgard shows all his acting skills. Must see.
Dirty Lines (2022)
Spot on!
This series hits the eighties in all details. Funny and entertaining. Beginning is a little bit to long. When you dutch it has a lot op inside jokes. This is hoe your parents lived.
Death to 2021 (2021)
Funny, funny, funny
You should not take yourself and your own convictions too seriously. If you do, it becomes laughable to watch. Thanks for an hour of a smile on my face during this lockdown.
Ferry (2021)
Nice Snack (frietje Jopie)
Waited for a long time and got what you hoped for.
It's a great prequel but nothing more. You can see from the script that it was made under time pressure. Story shows little tension and has no plot twists and innumerable mistakes in time (The film plays in 2006) for example you an see a guy with mouth mask in his car.
Only a short prologue shows Ferry's childhood. The rest of the film shows a period less than 1 year as an adult. The writers have made themselves too easy with this choice. But this also has the advantage that there is room for a next sequel:
Ferry II: The king of XTC in Noord Brabant.
I Am All Girls (2021)
Beautiful film with a horrifying subject
This film is simply very good. Beautiful cinematography with an oppressive atmosphere with fits perfect to the subject of trafficking in children. It's great how victim grows into serial killer and title and protagonist come together. The suggestion of a possible attraction between the 2 main female characters was unnecessary and distracted from the main theme. Good acting. The only downside is that on 1/3 of the film it becomes clear who the serial killer is and for the attentive viewer already in the 1st 10 minutes of the movie. This removes a lot of the tension and that is a shame.
We Die Young (2019)
Openingsscène is a copy
The openingsscène is a copy from the sorry movie Road 2007 from the same Director. All the rest is Carp.
