The Possession (2012)
Good Movie for $5 Movie Day at Regal Cinemas
Today, I decided to give this movie a shot, whilst coming into the theater with low expectations (and I mean low). Lately, horror movies have been following this "lost footage" trend where it was widely successful in the original Paranormal Activity. But this movie comes out strong and authentic with the classic "Exorcism-type theme".
What's interesting about this movie is it bares off into Judaism setting it apart from all the other possession movies which are mainly based on Christianity.
The movie really brings out new things I haven't seen before. The acting was well done, and the characters were very persuasive (especially with the young girls). The special effects and CGI was anything but cheesy and many scenes had made the entire audience jump!
Great for a $5 movie day at your local Regal Cinema theater as for I wouldn't recommend seeing it for full price. Of course, for me to actually recommend a movie at full price is very demanding as it must be an "over-the-top-astonishing" movie (Ex. The Avengers, Dark Night Rises).
Summary: -Overall: 4/5 -Scary: 3.5/5 -Acting: 4/5 -CUFC (Content Unadvisable for Children) 1/5 Recommendation: GO! OVERALL SCORE/100: 73%
Act of Valor (2012)
Act of Valor make "Saving Private Ryan" look like a little boys toy chest
As compelling as the film was, I felt that I could always relate the scenes to a similar style shown in "Saving Private Ryan" or any of the Clancy books. But i had suspected something different and original about this film.
AND I WAS RIGHT! had i never seen such an original camera work! I would love to meet the guy who put in the real military cam footage!
Just to get an idea for the plot (without giving anything away)... A U.S. team departs to find a kidnapped CIA agent and along with global terrorism, the team must fight off a new kind of bomb created by antagonists in the Ukraine where they must find the man responsible for this.
VISUAL 9/10. Watching the real combat tactics is what keeps the film alive and on the edge of your seat. Having an aspect of realism bring a whole new dimension to war film that nobody has seen yet. I think this could be the start of a new trend in war films!
STORY 7/10. The story is good, but not excellent. It is a little idealistic and it's a little predictable. I wish they would have some kind of plot twist or throw in something unexpected. Yet the topic is original and interesting and can be one of those films were if your tune out for one minute, you won't understand the rest of the movie.
VIOLENCE 9/10. If you are into action, violence, blood or anything of that nature, you'll love this movie! Very bloody, lot's of action and very intense. You'll especially like the real footage. I keep going back to this because it's really cool and you must see for yourself!
