One Day (2024)
Difficult to get through
I didn't put two and two together that this was a remake before watching it until reading the reviews. I wish they would just stop remaking and start creating fresh ideas. I'm a sucker for romance so I thought this would easily tug at my heart strings, boy was I wrong! It was really painful and irritating to watch the majority of the time and I kept asking myself why am I watching it still, but I kept hoping for more and I hate not finishing things. Both lead characters were insufferable and had zero chemistry. Dexter was extremely selfish and obnoxious and Emma was so uptight and annoying. Dexter basically uses Emma the whole show. She's like an obsessed puppy just waiting for him and she's always there for him whenever he needs her. I wanted to scream at the TV every time she gave in to him and then waited all that time to end up together. What is this show teaching women? To be doormats? Also, with all the cheating who's to believe they'll be faithful to each other especially with the lack of chemistry they have. It's just not believable. The love is not believable at all, I don't even understand how they're friends at all by the end of the show let alone together. On a positive note, I really loved the music and some of the other characters like Tilly, Dexter's mom, even Ian (yes maybe he was a little much at times, but he was just being himself and I don't feel like he ever really got to be himself around Emma. She was always judging him and he was treating her better than Dex). The actors that play Dexter and Emma themselves seem good, just maybe not the best roles for them. The only part that got me through the end was Dexter being humbled. Maybe I'll go rewatch the movie now to compare as well.
The Dog House (2019)
A favorite for any huge dog lover
This show is so heartwarming. I smile, laugh, and cry watching it. It's one of my favorites and I was really sad when it was over, I wish they would make more! It tells so many amazing stories of dogs and people, and how we are connected. It gives you the best feeling when you see precious dogs that have been given up find new homes. I love how they also include updates at the end. The show is also a really great tool to learn about how to properly match with a new pet because you see how things go can go wrong. It shows you how much work goes into matching the dogs not just on looks or breed that a lot of people make the mistake doing when they get a dog.
Strays (2023)
Don't listen to the haters
I don't understand all the haters on this. Did you not watch the trailer? Do you not read ratings? If don't like swear words or vulgarity, yes this movie may not be your cup of tea. I however, loved this movie. What dog lover doesn't love a movie with a bunch of cute dogs (and on top of that laughs to go with it)? The movie was really well done visually with the movements of the dogs and the CGI. The casting was spot on. I loved that they used Isla Fisher for the Aussie and each actor matched the dogs so perfectly. The storyline is great for a comedy as well and keeps you wanting to follow the pups along their wild journey. We were all laughing so much throughout the movie and left the movie smiling. If you love dogs and don't take things too seriously, I highly recommend giving this movie a watch!
One More Time (2023)
Nostalgic and heart warming
I randomly came across this movie and thought I'd give it a chance. I usually don't have high hopes for these types of movies, they're more of just something to throw on. However, I was pleasantly surprised with this one. The nostalgia was so fun to watch. I'm 32 so I grew up around the same time. The set design, costumes, hair and makeup, music choices, etc. Were really well done. Took me back in time! The story also had me reflecting on my past and things I could relate to growing up as well as now. Pulled at the heart strings for sure, but had silly moments too. I would recommend it, also recommend watching it in the original language not dubbed.
Obsession (2023)
Cringe fest
I don't know how or why I got through this series...I think I was just hoping at some point something terrible would happen to the main characters. There are some Lifetime shows/movies I've seen many many years ago that are better than this. Really awkward chemistry and unbelievable storyline. Had me cringing the entire time. How can a father literally feel nothing like that especially after what happens? I feel like the show can't decide if it's supposed to be making us root for the cheaters, hate them, understand them, or all of the above. It's just all over the place. Save your time and watch something else.
The Noel Diary (2022)
Pointless cheating
Currently in the process of watching this and am now just watching it in the background just because I hate not watching movies all the way through. I lovvve cheesy Christmas movies, but this is just dumb. What kind of message are you trying to portray to people? You know young people watch these things too right and you're promoting cheating? There's no reason whatsoever the lead female needed to have a fiancé. It added nothing at all to the story and really took away from it if anything. Cheating is not romantic! It would've been so much more sweet and romantic without it. Besides that, the chemistry is off. Waste of time.
Run Sweetheart Run (2020)
Unexpectedly loved this film
I saw the screening/premiere of this film and didn't have high expectations for an Amazon horror film, but it sounded like a fun night so I went for it. Wow I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed this. It's very thought provoking, but also entertaining to watch and has funny moments as well. I got to hear the director and cast speak and I loved how she pushed the envelope on putting something we with periods have to often feel like we need to hide, our blood. Also, speaking about men who take advantage of women and what we have to go through everyday because of it. I really loved the performance of the main actress as well. She did an amazing job.
Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities (2022)
Fun mix of stories reminds me of Tales from the Crypt
A fun variety of stories, some scarier than others, and some gorier. I love that these are also thought provoking. Reminds me of Tales from the Crypt, which I love, even the intro has similarities. The costuming, set design, and filming is beautifully done for all of these. There's a lot of attention to details. For those that complained about the series being gross and gory, do you even watch horror shows/movies and if so what kind are you watching? Why even watch this? Haha. Yes it can be gory and gross, but most horror is and that's part of the fun! Maybe stick to different genres or watch more psychological horror if you don't like those things. Definitely at least watch the trailer if you're so averted to them.
Malignant (2021)
Just bad bad bad
Was super excited for this movie to come out after seeing a trailer a while back and it being hyped up. This was the worst horror movie I've ever seen. I love horror movies and watch all kinds. This was campy/cheesy, but not on purpose where it became a comedy/action film half way through. There were moments I felt like I was watching a Marvel movie and The Matrix. There were very little scares. It turned into the most outrageous storyline. Not only that the casting and costume design in some parts was extremely stereotypical especially the jail scene. Although we got good laughs, we felt let down.
