8-Bit Christmas (2021)
Good but not 80's accurate
When I saw the trailer for this movie, I really wanted to like it. As an 80's kid myself who had to "earn" my first Nintendo, I thought I might have a connection plus I was an avid baseball card collector as well. The basic plot was good, the characters were good, and it paid homage to the original Christmas Story movie. But if you are an 80's kid like me, you won't be able to ignore a few items from this movie that are not "80's correct."
Flaws:
Billy Ripken "F@@@-Face" error card was '89 Fleer, the movie takes place in '88, they used fake cards. But showed '88 Topps later.
Chris Sabo? RC in '88 traded/update, unlikely to be in packs.
Nintendo game "Silent Fists" they played with the power glove doesn't exist. And the graphics are 16 bit, not 8 bit
They didn't make a 42" inch CRT tv. 40" was the biggest.
The Witches (2020)
Scary for kids
I was intrigued by the trailer and a fan of Dahl books. Slow movie intended for kids but I wouldn't show this to my own kids. The witches are too creepy. Octavia Spencer played her role well.
Good Omens (2019)
Just a silly show
I kept watching hoping it would get better, it didn't. If you start watching this show with the mindset that it is just silly then you will not be dissapointed. This show has a lot of potential, I think stretching it to 6 episodes actually crippled it by stretching out content and storylines that didn't add to the show. 4 Episodes would have been great.
I enjoyed the shows' interpretation of religious doctrine and philosophies. I think both Michael Sheen and David Tennant were excellent in their respective roles. It took me until episode 6 to make the connection with David Tennant's name "Crowley" and that he began as a snake. Very clever. Favorite part of the show is Crowley's car and blasting Queen's greatest hits.
