Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie (2023)
It's Adrian Monk...
It's Monk. Tony Shalhoub, returning to (for me) his greatest role. One can only hope this restarts a new series because this was just as much heartfelt fun as the Monk of old. I'm so glad this just felt like a feature length episode because that was all it needed to be, to just let the characters shine. It was great to see the some of the best supporting characters return as well but most of all it is watching Tony Shalhoub do his thing as Monk that is the very comfort food of great television. I also really enjoyed the digs at Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. Sit back on a lazy Sunday afternoon and let this little gem wash away your woes.
UFO (2021)
About Time UFO Docs Addressed The Stupid In The Room
Don't get me wrong, I nearly turned this off. It starts as many UFO documentaries do, with the usual talking heads spouting nonsense unsupported by evidence. I was distracted by my phone though so it stayed on, and wow. What a surprise. We got a rational and opposing point of view from some folk with actual critical thinking skills. Not only that, a revelation about The Phoenix Lights incident crops up, that actually cleared something up for me after more than 20 years. This series addresses both sides better than anyone has done before and lets you make your own mind up. For me though the addition of some sanity in the room for once won hands down. If you ask me, the truth isn't out there, it's right here.
The Bob Newhart Show: The Longest Good Bye (1975)
Funny and complex for the 70s
Found this 4th season of the show and after watching the first episode I was overall impressed. It was engaging, heartfelt and funny with some genuinely wonderful performances from the whole cast. Bob Newhart of course is at the center of things and carries that responsibility with ease. I wish I had been able to find earlier episodes and I will keep on the lookout. However if like me you are a child of the 70s I think you'll appreciate this little gem of a sit-com. Come for the nostalgia and stay for the entertainment.
Missed opportunity not calling this first episode "Barbershop" though. You'll see what I mean if you watch it. :)
