The Lost King (2022)
9/10
Family friendly film.
11 October 2022
I found the film to be excellent with the cast, even Steve coogan underplaying his usual self.sally Hawkins Carrys the film and Stephen frears gives the actor plenty of screen time.there has been a lot of naysayers both on social media and in the news.about the journalistic licence given to the storyline.ok so the Leicester university was set up yo be the bad guys with Lee ingleby being singled out,but what they miss it's only a film, and it where myself being shown in a bad light I too wouldn't be happy, but let's call up another success for the British film industry, along with Mrs Harris we might not manage hollywoods output but we have heart to our films.

Quirky film.
11 October 2022
Just watched this film, found it interesting, the story itself being based on a true story.the starry cast give it their all.how much is true I've got to Google.christian bale doing his best Peter Falk impression,Margot robbie and John David Washington all give deadpan performances.mike Myers unrecognisable as another character embroiled in the shinanigans.all parts big and small including Robert de Niro who gives a rousing speech I think partly aimed st the trump administration.a film could easily have come from the coens brothers.stay till the end credits to see the real general portrayed by de Niro give the speech verbatim.

Possibly a film for our times.
6 October 2022
This charming and disarming films goes to prove that you can still make films like they used to.its a film which resonates today as the original version with Angela lansbury might have done then.an honest woman ada Harris is a character we would in this cynical age be called twee or too good to be true.the rest of the cast equips themselves admirably.jason Isaac's I thought was underused, but did well in his small part.the empowerment of the working women was well used as the right to strike which is happening right now.back to the film it's good to know yet again its possible to have a hit film without bad language or violence.

Very good anti war movie.
5 October 2022
Went into the film without doing any background homework, really interesting concept of someone starting out with no aim in life tending up in Vietnam on a whim and some Dutch courage in a pub.following through with a promise and finding not only his self but also about a war which America lost but keeps revisiting trying to heal old wounds.the cast led by Zac Efron are excellent, but its efrons film all the way, never off camera.abley supported by bill Murray and Russell Crowe.what starts off as a light film suddenly turns into a darker story of how politicians can manipulate the public.not up there with the likes of m.a.s h or catch 22 but still very good.

Involving character study.
22 September 2022
A slow moving film, more a study in character and acting.charlotte rampling the sixties icon not afraid to show her age.her study in age and truth, things lost roads not taken is dealt with great aplomb.the small but valuable supporting cast is very good.her vinegary put downs and side swipes hide a very brittle person.very reminiscent of Mrs havisham the way she manipulates people around her like chess pieces.death is also dealt with in the physical and mental acceptance of it.the choice of music good but not intrusive.an overall small independent film that deserves a better release.well worth an hour and half of your time.

How to film mousetrap!
21 September 2022
A good cast in a whodunnit with a difference.murders taking place during the play mousetrap as it reaches its 100 shows.filmed with that in mind there are many hints, clues to Agatha Christie her books and characters, and some from other sources.an enjoyable romp with just the right side of parody.the ending as with mousetrap is not a total surprise.i thought I'd got it at one point but sadly wrong.the cast a all very good with some camping it up more than others.for film buffs and Agatha Christie officiendos.nice to see it enter the top ten in the u.s not much competition at the moment, until the big guns are rolled out nearer oscsr time.

Slightly screwball comedy.
21 September 2022
We into this film exactly knowing what I was going to get.the stars shine about dimmer with age,but still give a good performance.the settings were excellent, the dialogue could have been better.the cross talk conversations where reminiscent of the 1940s so called screwball comedies.though neither stars are as good as cary grant, rosalind Russel they do try and emulate it.not everybody's cup of tea but makes a change from the constant marvel and DC comic films which although the make mega bucks, still lack that bit touch of soul.if you lighthearted fair then this is for you.the supporting cast good if only to pop in out ti prop up the story line.

The Forgiven (III) (2021)

Intriguing film.
12 September 2022
The forgiven is a film that leaves you pondering about what might have been.i had thought that the main premise of the film was of forgiveness, change and moving on.the main characters a a dislikeable group with the exception of Matt Smith and Ralph Fiennes's.even Jessica Chastain's character becomes as the rest.i wasnt entirely convinced about the ending and seemed a bit contrived after everything that had gone before.the only character to have changed for the good was Ralph Fiennes's,all the others to me held a mirror up to the conservative party values that we seem to live in,of boorish upper school hooray henries who have gotten on in life from not what they know but who.the cast from the top billing to the costars and the morrocan actors excellent.

Hitchcock style thrills.
7 September 2022
One of the few films I've given ten to.the thrills were there from beginning to end.the acting was par excellence from such a small cast.confined area for acting.a couple of twists in it one I saw coming the other not,I was that engrossed in the film.the director pulled off the most astonishing shots, close up and pull aways, diverting your attention with one action while something else happens from left field.glad I went with my instincts to see it.the effects and the stunts made this a film to be seen in the big screen.the two girls carried the majority of the film as a two hander and deserve the plaudits that go with it.

Epic film.
2 September 2022
A well produced film, the scenery and the historic content was first class.i do agree that the romance could have taken a more of a backseat.the acting was excellent, and I'm looking forward to seeing miss McKey in Emily later on this year.it made a welcome change from all the sequels and prequels, and the ongoing DC and marvel films.to some it would be offputting because of the subtitles, but to me it doesn't detract from the content.im quite lucky that close to where I live we have an independent cinema that will show the more quirky films or those that are for the more discerning tastes.it probably won't get the publicity it deserves, only with decent reviews and word of mouth will ensure a success.

Not quite worthy follow up.
27 July 2022
The film as a stand alone,is a good effort, but it will be derided by many as with all sequels as a failure.nit to be missed especially for those that miss the innocent days of childhood.shame there wasn't a nod to Bernard Cribbens who's was down to appear but due to health reasons couldn't.there could be a worse way to spend an afternoon.

Lovely film.
25 July 2022
Going in without any knowledge of the storyline,I found it a steady film with a cast that carries very well.the ending not totally unexpected, but I got the impression the ending was abridged but I could be wrong.

Greek tragedy.
27 June 2022
A very good biopic,Austin butler does a great job portraying elvis without becoming a caricature.tom hanks as colonel Tom parker could have come across a the villain of the peace but show great restraint, comes across more of the carnival worker out of his depth as elvises career took off.the music and the sense of place is brought to life brilliantly by baz luhrmann.

When worlds collide.
13 June 2022
A good ride for the last of the latest trilogy,l found the long running time didnt go against it.the two worlds of dinosaurs and our own animals living together side by side, plus the old guard of the earlier films mashing together with the younger group makes for an exciting mix.as ever the special effects are top notch but I'm afraid now that audiences have become complacent about such things.another number one film that doesn't own its merit to DC or marvel.

The real top gun.
7 June 2022
A brilliant documentary about not only the plane but the crews as well.taking it through the early days of the war to the introduction of the Lancaster, talking to the members of bomber command crews.told with unflinching candor about their experiences.then as politicians do is ignore them after their sacrifice.well narrated by Charles dance,it would have been churlish to give a lesser rating.

Blockbuster of the old school.
28 May 2022
It makes a refreshing change for a film to reach pole position and not be related to DC or marvel ideas it's a good film not without its cheesiness which helps it along in a strange way.mr cruise dies what he does best with a big dollop is nostalgia, fair play that he wanted to keep the film in the cinema and not gone the route of quite a few features, citing COVID as the excuse.well done.

Elegy for lost generation.
23 May 2022
Beautifully filmed, expertly directed and the acting sublime.alost generation and a loss of one's self,in an age when love that dare not speaks its name was reviled.the interaction of the poetry and film is used to great effect.on a lighter note some of the acidic one liners would have made lady Grantham wince.

Very good film about a person I knew nothing about it proves you can change your lif around whatever age you are.mark whalberg proves himself as an actor, with Mel Gibson in solid support do go and see it,for it's more than a redemption film for Mel Gibson.

History well told.

A film packed with British talent, not the Big publicity blurb the yanks would have done. Script and acting at its best.the cinematography first Class.it shows that some of the war then and now was fought in the shadows.
