Get Out (2017)
I fell asleep
Yes, I fell asleep watching this. Meh. I have seen far better horror films over the years, and this one isn't even in the top five.
We know what is going to happen from the start of this mess. Yes, I know many regard this as great, but they have not seen true greatness, and for that I shall not fault them.
The issue here is the ridiculous cliches, the lack of caring for the main character, and obvious stakes that simply are not worthy of stressing over.
What was missing? Multiple characters to choose from, that one may identify with and like. There's no wager as to who might survive and who may not. There's one character. That you will like. Or not. And if you don't, then you'll fall asleep.
He wasn't unlikable, just there simply was little element of surprise. You knew he was going into a house and bad things were going to happen. The awe and adventure was not there.
The Wrath of Becky (2023)
Awful power trip fantasy flick
I enjoyed the first movie, it was actually good. Unlike this sequel. There's no wonder the original writers did not participate in scribing this nonsensical power trip anti-conservative fantasy, with some of the worst, stereotyped conservative characters ever to be shown on the screen.
The writers did not even attempt a cogent effort with the characterizations. They borrowed from every other show on television's poor depiction of a wide swath of the country that big city folk simply do not understand. So instead, they resort to invoking Godwin's law to justify the power trip killings of these "flyover people," while impugning their character, instead of giving a plausible scenario.
Note to writers: If you are this viciously upset with one half of the country, then perhaps you should find another outlet to vent your feelings.
What was missing from this steaming pile of garbage was a plot that told a story, following a three act structure, that avoided preaching a message and instead tried to entertain. This one threw out the entertainment part, and instead was all message, no substance, all wrong and simply a waste of a film cannister. Yep. The poor cannister had to hold this sludge.
Stay away. There's much better horror movies worth watching. This is propaganda snuff film at its worst.
The Americans: Tchaikovsky (2018)
I have never wanted a protagonist killed off until now...
Elizabeth deserves to be wasted, somehow, somewhere. She a pure, psychopathic, emotionless, evil being. What a wretched example of a human being. The lady in the robot tampering episode was prophetic. Elizabeth is a very, very, deluded, wicked person.
The Americans: Dyatkovo (2017)
I have never despised a character so much...
In all the shows I have ever watched, I have never despised a character as much as Keri Russel's. Soulless, without emotion, feeling, or even morals, she embodies a pure, primeval psychopath. I screamed at my television after watching this episode. Pure wickedness on the screen.
Still, the episode was well written and we felt the pain that was dealt as the curtains closed.
The Americans: Do Mail Robots Dream of Electric Sheep? (2015)
That's what Evil people do...
This episode is tops. The writers finally had a character say what we've been saying all along. Will the main characters finally "get" it? Maybe. Maybe not.
Thoroughbreds (2017)
One giant tease
This movie is a giant tease. Plenty of buildup, but no payoff. Watch "Heathers" instead for a more rewarding, satisfying experience. This stinker doesn't satisfy at all.
