How to Lose Friends & Alienate People (2008)
Very unenjoyable
Boy, I felt emotionally drained after watching this film. Not because it had touched me in any special way, simply because I had sit in the cinema for two hours watching something that was ultimately pointless. It wasn't funny (probably laughed two times in the entire funny), attempts at funniness generally failed, I made very little connection to the characters and as I said, it was just pointless. Nothing was really done in this movie, all that really happens is some guy moves to New York- slapstick and weak plot ensues. That's really it. It was just so boring, so horrible, so missing anything interesting. The acting was OK I guess although Simon Pegg was miscast. Kirsten Dunst was apparently depressed or something during filming and you could tell, she didn't really have much life about her in this film. She did look good again though which was one plus point for the movie. Gah, just a big waste of money and talent. This movie could have been so much better but it was just way too lowbrow and I'm not sure but probably badly directed as well.
Seinfeld: The Pledge Drive (1994)
My favourite episode
This episode is without my favourite. This episode packs so much in that its impossible to not like it. It contains my favourite line when Elaine tell's Jerry's grandmother to drop dead over the phone as well as the line Kramer says about his grandmother passing "bum" checks all over town. The Mr Pitt Snicker's story line is also a major winner. The interconnecting stories make Seinfeld the best sitcom ever created and this episode is cream of the crop.
This is quite possibly the best 20minutes in sitcom history. Go Seinfeld! .
Have to use 10 lines for reviewing one episode of a TV show...sheesh.
Saw II (2005)
Very disappointing sequel to the excellent "Saw"
This movie could have been wonderful. A house with lots of traps and some potentially interesting characters. But what did we get? A house with lots of traps but we hardly see many of them and many characters, yes, but most of them have the depth of a saucer.
The sequel was very disappointing. The character development that made "Saw" was missing and this fault really sabotaged the film. We didn't see enough of the traps and puzzles. In the end, all that we saw was the characters stumbling about the house and not doing very much-a bit frustrating when we consider what they could have been doing! Trying to solve and complete the game.
In conclusion, this film was a wasted opportunity and if a sequel does go ahead then I hope they make it a lot better than this film.
Box Office America (1992)
Best late night show EVER!
Thatis was such a great show to see the newest movie clips from across the pond! I don't know why it says only 1992, it lasted for quite a few years and me and my friend were avid viewers even though it aired at like 3am! Before the internet etc, this truly was the best place to see movie clips. There was only a voice, no presenter and a recent trailer was almost shown at the end. I cannot believe this show ended! I was devastated and there has been no equal since.
Boy, not much else to say (but I have to fill up 10lines, stupid new rules). Well, me and my friend used to have 3am vigils just to watch this show as we always knew the clips would be great etc. Interesting box office info was also sometimes given and the guy who voiced it had a great voice!
Capricorn One (1977)
Thinnest characters ever
This was one awful movie. The premise is ruined by characters that are underdeveloped (i.e. all the characters) and humor that does not fit into the story. The characters have little to no background and the astronauts themselves barely speak. There certainly are plot holes but if the characters were interesting then these could be overlooked. I can't stress strongly enough how thin the characters were, Gould's boss and Telly Savals' character are ridiculously thin and seem tacked on for no reason other than to provide humor that was out of place.
Avoid! Avoid like the plague! - 3/10
Die Another Day (2002)
Worst Brosnan Bond Film
How did this film get a higher score than 'The World is not Enough', it has more action but that does not make it better. This is the worst of Brosnan' Bond films.
Pluses-
Rosamund Pike
Gustav Graves (kind of, better villain than Elliot Carver anyway)
Some action sequences were good.
Rosamund Pike (I am aware I have written her name twice!!)
Minuses-
Michael Madsen (what was the point of his character?)
Rick Yune
CGI and over abundance of action
lack of story and plot development
Filming locations were a tad boring, (cloudy Korea, colourless Iceland)
Madonna's helium theme song
Conclusion- too action packed for a Bond film, theme song was rubbish and not as good as Bond 20 should have been. Quite enjoyable as a film, a bit dissapointing as a Bond one
overall- 6/10
Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1990)
Ridiculously scary
This has got to be the scaries kids show ever. One episode in particular that I remember was 'the tale of the pinball wizard', a boy gets sucked into a pinball machine and has to fight various monsters in the shopping mall.
This scared the living daylights out of me as a child and the thing with this episode and many others was that there was not a happy ending which is especially scary. The characters were often on their own in the stories, this isolation really adds to the scariness of the show. I loved this show and it is surprising how scary some of the stories were. The show was great and their were always morals for the young kids to soak up!!! I give it 17 screams out of 19
Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
Drop Dead Brilliant!
How could anyone not love this movie. The storyline is intriguing, the accents are hilarious and the characters are ingenius! Any movie starring both Denise Richards and Kirsten Dunst is bound to be great. All the characters are so funny and strong feelings are felt towards all characters whether positive or negative-the movie is very involving. The accents are also a hoot as is the handicapped man and a particular stand out scene was at the interview stage when Kirsten's character was asked ridiculously hard questions! IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS MOVIE, GO OUT AND BUY/RENT IT NOW! Score - 9/10
I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
A superior slasher flick
I won't bother explaining the plot as it has already been explained in the main part. I can't believe this film has such a low average score! It is true that the film is not very original but the flair and finesse of the film make it a cut above the rest. The murder scenes are all very well orchestrated with fitting music and there is always suspense present, the Helen Shivers chase scene stood out in particular and not just for Sarah Michelle Gellar's performance. The music and lighting was well done and it was one of the best chase scenes I have ever seen in a movie! I did think however that the scene at the end on the boat failed to keep up the pace of the Helen Shivers chase and Jenifer Love Hewitts's screaming was ridiculous. Overall, I give this film a slashtastic 8/10
Day of the Dead (1985)
Disappointing
When zombie numbers began to grow, a team of military and science personal were sent to an old underground bunker in Florida to conduct research. But as time goes on, nerves are frayed and the military men become agitated and dangerous , there is also the danger of zombies lurking outside of course.....
I was really excited before seeing 'Day of the Dead'. I was hoping to find out about what exactly made the people made the zombies, why they want to eat humans and whether other countries and continents outside the U.S.A. had been overrun. I found none of it. This addition to the 'night of the living dead' series is described as a very talkative addition but they talk about nothing important and we find out VERY little about the zombie condition and the state of the world.
Although the army characters are supposed to be dangerous and annoying, they annoyed me as a viewer and this detracted from the film. I liked Sarah (Lori Cardille), she was a very likable character and attractive too which can't harm a film. The whole Bub plotline was ridiculous but it is believable a scientist would conduct such research. Most of the characters were extremely unlikeable which didn't help me enjoy the film as much as I could have.
The zombie action was quite good, thought the director did go for a couple of cheap scares on occasions. The complex was an intriguing idea but with a bigger budget (like originally planned) could have been done much better. Overall I give this 6/10. It was disappointing as an end to the 'Night of the living Dead' Trilogy but a good zombie film.
A View to a Kill (1985)
a good edition to the series but Moore really was too old.
James fights an industrial tycoon.
I really liked 'A View to a Kill', it had the best theme tune of the series (followed closely by 'The Living Daylights') by Duran Duran and Christopher Walken was great as the baddie. I think however, it would have been a better film with some less humor and without Moore's smug smile plastered across his face for 80% of the movie. May Day was underused in the voice department and although Tanya Roberts looked amazing, her scream rattled through me like nothing else. The bit-part bond girl (a former miss world) at the beginning in the iceberg submarine should have had a bigger part, she looked amazing. The action pieces were great especially the golden gate bridge and the eiffel tower and I felt this film had a better look to it than some previous ones. Everything looked very drab in 'Octopussy' especially the scenes in Germany but in 'AVTAK' everything looked brighter and the quality of the film had more of a American feel to it. overall 3/5
