Pirates of Treasure Island (2006)
Treasure Island, Pirates of
"Treasure Island, Pirates of" is how it should read. It's just another remake of RLS' classic novel with extreme artistic liberty taken in order to add a female "pirate" to the crew and really make it inane. Jim Hawkins is a bit older than the book had described and will probably not even attract the adolescent crowd. But what prompted this reviewer to post may become a future blooper trivia question. It was when Long John Silver (Lance) tells one of his crew that he would "put a bullet" in his head, and there is no way that a pirate would refer to a pistol ball as a bullet. I know, small detail but it makes this a B movie at best, and won't surprise this reviewer at all if it goes straight to DVD at release. It's a made for television movie if you don't care about accuracy. I feel it might just be an attempt to use the other BIG pirate movie popularity along with the title wording twist to leech some of the box office earnings. It was the worst movie of the year so far in MHO*.
*my humble opinion.
Ken Park (2002)
This is one disturbing film,
mostly because it could be taken from Any Town, USA, and probably happens more than anyone would care to find out. It starts by shocking the viewer with a dramatic public suicide in the middle of a mid-city skate park, then takes off on a collection of short insights into the lives of the teen agers who knew the suicidal teen, and how each of their lives is twisted in it's own disturbing way. Each of which is a sad reflection of our society today.and of what could be happening behind the closed doors of what could be your own neighbors.
I don't know what rating this film was given but it must be X for the eXplicit sex scenes, which range from auto erotic asphyxiation to incest and teen orgies and more. I'm not sure who I would recommend this movie to, but they would have to have a morbid curiosity along with a strong constitution in order to be able to stomach the realism of what transpires from start to finish in this movie.
Definitely a family film if you have one of those twisted families, in an almost "support group" kind of way. But I don't know what else to say or how to rate it except - Disturbing.
