Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
A little disappointing after a good start: Afraid of what's coming next ...
First of all, my review is based on the two first episodes of the show.
Apparently, the show will focus the spread of the "virus" and all collateral social and civil problems that will emerge because of that.
After seeing the first episode I was really drilled about the show. Everything seemed very credible and you could really feel the tension in the air.
It looks like that the zombie thing started because of drugs (probably a new drug), since the first manifestation of the "virus" was in a house full of "junkies". Until now, the show is based on a family's point of view and the choice couldn't be better. The family is composed by Madison Clark, the mother, her sons Nick and Alicia and their stepfather Travis. The main conflict you can clearly see coming is the fact that Travis has a son Chris from his previous marriage and he's living with his mother. It's obvious that this will bring a lot of drama to the show since he will be forced to make really hard choices.
Though I really enjoyed the first episode, personally, the second I felt a little of disappointment, mainly because of the script. Things evolved really fast and in an instant everything was chaotic. It didn't feel credible and natural. You didn't get the feeling of the spreading, the quarantine, the forensic and the politics. Even the social reaction was very dramatic very, very soon. In other way, the family reaction wasn't also credible, they had instant conscious of a "global virus" spreading and they automatically decided to move to the desert? (What? Just because you killed someone that look strange? So many explanations could be found and you automatically assume that you must leave the city urgently? C'mon
)
Also, in the second episode, I felt that the representation wasn't credible enough, mainly because of Madinson (Kim Dickens) when she was forced to kill a friend from school. Her representation was really bad. I really hope this episode 2 isn't going to mark the rest of TV show because I love post-apocalyptic stuff. They only need to let the narrative flow in a natural and credible way, nothing more to keep us entertained.
Dark Places (2015)
Intriguing but Disappointing
This movie is about a crime committed some 30 years ago where the mother and the sisters of Libby Day (Charlize Theron) and her brother, Ben, are murdered. She and her older brother were the only survivors of the crime but, due to the fact of his brother was involved with a satanic group, she blames him of committing it, they go to court and he admits the crime and he ends in the jail. Then, she became a national icon and she was sustained by donations she got during all her life. Thirty years after, most people have forgot about her and, she is almost broke and needs to find a way of getting money. Then, a group of amateurs that enjoy solving crimes and mysteries go in the encounter of the Libby Day saying that they believe his brother was not guilty and, in exchange of money, they ask for her help in finding the truth behind the murdering of her family. Libby Day starts the journey of remembering all the facts behind that night. She then starts to talk again with his brother and she's going after all the people that could know something about it.
During this part of the movie, you feel very connected to the story and very intrigued. The characters, they all seem very natural and the interpretation makes you believe the script.
The main problem of this movie, is how it ends. It has a very anticlimax ending and all theories that you came up during the movie they all fall down. Really poor creativity in here, you really find yourself thinking they didn't know how to end it.
So, although it had very positive things, I rated this movie 5 stars, because for me a movie is all about how it ends, and his one was ... poor!
About Time (2013)
An Entertaining and Emotional Movie
I've watched this movie yesterday with my wife, and we both enjoyed it very much. The story is about a family whose men can time travel. The plot focus the life of the younger son who's desperate for finding a girlfriend and also how he uses his "travel time powers" to change his past actions in order to get a girl. It also covers his relationship with his sister and, specially, his father. The movie is full of fun moments making the movie enjoyable and light to watch but at the same time explores a sentimental / emotional side that will leave your eyes wet.
Definitely, a must see movie.
