Firstly, I must admit that my rating is based on pure bias. I've been watching this film on habitual repeat since I was a kid and I never get tired of it.

The plot lacks severely, some of the humour fails to make its mark and we are "treated" to a rather terrible song performed by one of the actors mid-way. Oh and Roger Moore seemed to be just there for... well, I don't know why he was there. But forget all that. None of it's important.

Why, if it's so bad, do I keep watching it? Let's start with the soundtrack - an amazing selection of songs that you can only find on the incredibly rare OST. And then the stunts - a serious amount of awe for the talent of the stunt experts showing off their stuff. I will confess that some of the lame jokes still even rise a laugh from me - as do some of the antics of the teams in the race.

So - if you want a fun stunt film with great music, this is an enjoyable watch. Bear in mind that those giving it a low rating have very valid points, but if you have any appreciation for a mindless romp, here it is.

Just caught an advanced screening of this tonight. As one who never really enjoyed Star Trek, I found myself pleasantly surprised with how likable this movie was.

The casting itself is one of the great pluses to begin with, especially with Zachary Quinto who manages to make being Spock look so easy. Simon Pegg delivers very well as Scotty with funny moments, but not being too over the top - good job there. And Anton Yelchin definitely steals the show in any of his scenes as Chekov.

Kirk was well-casted too, but the others definitely warranted a greater mention.

The greatest thing about this movie was that it managed to be genuinely funny, without compromising itself. There are so many brief moments and quick gags that work with snap precision. The worst things I can say about this film was the somewhat weak plot and the superficial character development (understandable, given how many characters were shoved at us). But everything else was awesome enough to divert focus from the minuses.

If you've never seen anything Trek, or maybe saw one or two episodes - you will like this. If you've spent your life hating Trek - you will still like this.

I certainly do. 8/10

Sea Patrol has its faults - from painfully obvious story lines to some dicey acting - but all in all, I enjoy it and never miss an episode. It's far from realistic but that's actually a good thing, because that's what makes this show so entertaining. And all the characters have their own space to develop through both series, despite some cast changes and questionable acting.

The ship itself and the locations are the real stars of Sea Patrol, and it's nice to see an Australian show with a half decent budget for once. Nothing beats some local scenery and themes, considering how many overseas shows flood the television market here.

I love Sea Patrol and I'm certainly going to keep watching.

No sooner had the DVD hit the shelves than I bought it. I was immediately hooked onto this when it was airing. Despite being a student of history and Latin and seeing the gaping holes in the historical background, I enjoyed it immensely for the plot and actors. I was disappointed when it failed to continue.

Tyrannus, despite being inserted by creative licence, is by far the best character. His portrayal makes me want to have him as my own bodyguard. It is also good to see Home and Away's Chris Egan stepping into a very different role.

The show Rome didn't strike any chords with me and I preferred Empire immediately.
