Another Life: I Think We're Alone Now (2019)
So figure your way outta this one
Well stone the crows! Writing this review as I watch Episode 6 and good grief Charlie Brown. Does anyone on this ship know how to Astronaut properly?
Even Lister from Red Dwarf is a better space cadet than these plonkers. If you think that 7 minutes to dock a shuttle, get changed into a space suit and then space walk to fix a docking clamp, then you deserve to be left behind when the ship jumps to ludicrous speed.
And there is no way on earth, the universe or infinite multiplex that you can turn the ship around, manually pilot it back under FTL drive and then try and find your Space Captain.
If you're going to do space sci-fi in near earth future then do it properly. Even Star Wars is more scientifically accurate.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Meh
Well there was half an hour or so of beautifully done scenes where I actually felt like I was swimming/sailing through the rough seas.
And then the other 2 hours where a half dozen regurgitated storyline's got thrown together with a large dose of 'greed is bad' pitched in for good measure. A one dimensional plot, and lots of hissing/yelling.
And whales have tattoos now. So I have to add another 197 characters to finish this review. Sully's stick together, unless they are from Monsters Inc, but he's the same colour as the Sully's in this movie, so maybe.
I did like the new lightweight exoskeletons though, unless they are being used to drink a cup of coffee. Trying to show us how awesome they are I guess.
Snowpiercer: The Original Sinners (2022)
Trademark Netflix show ender
Great series through three seasons, with a typical 'wrap things up make sure the shows finished. Abruptly. This means tying up loose threads and plot lines, picking an ending for all characters (naughty and nice) and then delivering on plot, dialogue and emotion in a single episode. Too quick Netflix, too quick.
Doctor Who: Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror (2020)
Okay story but.....
Really let down by bad dialogue from main characters and guests alike. The lead evil alien was almost impossible to understand and there were some poor glitches with CGI and some physical props.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 6: The Prisoner (2019)
Middle of the road again
This episode has a better pace than previous ones but is let down by a basic, episodic plot, poor acting from several of the co-stars and worse dialogue.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 5: The Gunslinger (2019)
Yawn
I appreciate how the stories are woven into the star wars universe, but at the end of the day these episodes are starting to feel like cutscenes and decision points of a single player RPG.
Aquaman (2018)
Well it's better than Suicide Squad
A superhero origin story adrift in a sea of CGI. Minor villains that you just can't enjoy/respect/admire, let alone root for. And dismal acting from most of the entourage cast. When you're gasping for water even a toilet bowl is sweet relief. Marvel's reign at the top looks pretty safe.
