The Truth About Jim (2024)
Need to counter all the hate
Someone killed those girls. Everything is speculation until it's not. Besides, this person was a monster. Not like they are throwing shade on a decent man. Many modern docs do feel a bit exploitative so I don't hold that against it. Anyway, it's a good story. Well crafted and executed. Even if it's never proven who the killer was, I think it's well established that Jim was a monster who tortured many people. It's kind of sad to see all the judgment on this forum. This family can come off a little strange at times but perhaps that's a common symptom of living with an abuser. Anyway, it's a good watch. Ignore the hate.
Amy Schumer: The Leather Special (2017)
Very funny.
Its a bit over the top but genuinely funny. Like a lot of good comedy it's provocative and controversial. It's not very political but has been pre-judged by alt right trolls in an attempt to hurt Amy. In any case, politics aside, if you like raunchy comedy then you will find it very entertaining.
Reel Nightmare (2017)
A very fun indie Horror
Armand Petri's Reel Nightmare is a very well produced independent horror with the acting, camera, lighting and sound design one would expect of a main-stream Hollywood film. The film is a seamless high-bred of found footage with traditional narrative but with Reel Nightmare, the found footage is not ever part of the actual visual presentation but rather an ecstatic theme driven by the scene structure, in other words, no shaking camera or armature looking footage. Though all performances were compelling , I especially liked the portrayal of Sofia by Madeleine Heil who offers a first rate delivery. The film provides a few laughs, plenty of scares and a very cool surprise ending. I hope to see more from this production team!
Horror Hotel: The Movie (2016)
Very Entertaining Indie Horror
I'm a big fan of anthology films and since the success of VHS, many have tried to add their own unique addition to this fun and very entertain sub-genre with mixed success. However when it comes to Horror Hotel, I think fans will walk away feeling more than satisfied and regard this film as a very welcome addition to the indie horror pantheon. The production does an excellent job presenting a series of equally entertaining segments that flow together seamlessly and offer the perfect mix of comedy and classic Twilight Zone style horror. Also, the film contains higher than expected production values for an indie. The set design, acting, editing and sound are all top notch and closer to what one would expect from a Hollywood film than an independent. So check this one out if you are in the mood for some fun, well paced horror with a fun comedic twist. Eight stars easily given!
