The only explanation I can conjure for the 6/10 rating of this movie is that 12 year old have recently started being allowed to watch these movies and they're finding them oh-so-interesting.
This is kitsch pretending to be something deep but failing miserably to be that. There is literally no explanation for many decisions that the characters take, no explanation for some potentially crucial artefacts mentioned in the movie.
All the characters in the movie are unlikeable and insipid, but noone more so than the main character played by the horse-faced Rebecca Hall. Apparently the movie producers think her equine body proportions are something to be flaunted, having her stretch her alien neck into posture and exposing the C3/C4 bones covering her spine, which is instantly repulsive.
And for the audience to force themselves into believing that someone is going to 'fall in love' with this screwed up of a character and then be rejected (and assaulted) in the middle of the street is just hilarious.
The final showdown of the main character and the antagonist is just pathetic and could only have been written by a 12 year old.
