Good, not great - spoilers included
20 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was good, and worth a watch, but not nearly as good as the original. While the twist was good, the subsequent problem was that there were no longer any protagonists to root for - since almost everyone was a psychopath. So it became pretty much like I didn't care who lived or died. On a secondary note, a major plot hole was that obviously DNA tests would have been done to prove Esther was their daughter before she would have been sent back to the parents. Lastly, while the lead actress was excellent, she looked too old in some scenes.

Very memorable and haunting, with excellent performance by Dennehy
8 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this movie when it came out (late 90s). It is a very powerful portrayal of a wealthy man who doesn't understand that "no means no," and it unravels more from the rapist's perspective (which is unusual!). Dennehy played the role with great nuance, and the viewer sees that his character really doesn't understand what he did but he slowly starts to question his behavior just a bit. I don't think his character ever really gets that what he did was rape, even at the end, but that is what makes the movie even more realistic. (Think Kobe Bryant for example - some rapists just won't comprehend what they did was rape because perhaps the victim kissed them initially or went into a room alone with them. Some men in general think this way). This movie would be pretty relevant today. Very haunting even after seeing it 25 years ago, I still remember it quite well. Men take heed: No means no, consent should not be implied, and consent can be withdrawn any time during an encounter.

Pretty good

For a lifetime movie, this one is above average. I liked the characters and the story, though nothing I haven't seen before, held my attention. As a woman of size myself, I also enjoyed seeing different body types playing the leads and wouldn't mind seeing more of that in future movies.

Unique and very good
30 January 2022
This one went in a different direction than I've seen before, which is hard to find in movies these days. Overall a 6 but because of the creative direction it took for storyline I am bumping it up to an 8.

I thought the ending was great. I disagree with those who wanted the ending more fleshed out. I think the conclusion was just right and well done.

Movie was a bit scary but not super scary. I screamed once. No gore that I recall.

Starts bad and gets worse
30 January 2022
The premise and first few minutes seeing how a 911 headquarters and technology look seemed interesting. But thereafter the story was not interesting and the characters were not likeable. Gyllenhall overacted - leaving nothing to the imagination of what he was thinking. It also seemed odd that he would get so personally caught up on one phone call given his background as an Lapd cop. I didn't feel I cared about him or about the family he was trying to help.

Now this is how you make a movie
27 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Best movie I've seen in years! The script, acting, production, visuals etc are all fantastic. The story has a few plot holes when you really think it through, but it is still a really fantastic film.

I don't see this so much as a comedy, despite the comedic elements it's very poignant and left me feeling empowered. But what is really amazing about this film, is that a wide viewing of it may actually reduce the number of sexual assaults in our society - whether that be for ethical reasons or simply fear of punishment. So this incredible movie serves not only to entertain but also to make a positive difference in people's lives. And that folks is how you make a movie! All involved in this production should be proud.

Surprisingly Good

This movie is sort of a cross between Rosemary's Baby and The Invitation. I think if you liked either of the two aforementioned films, you will like this. I really enjoyed watching it and even went back and watched a few scenes a second time. The lead actress was likeable and a good protagonist for the viewer to relate to. 1.75 thumbs up. Subtract .25 thumb just because it did feel like some things I'd seen before. But that didn't really make me like it any less per se.

Slightly better than an average Lifetime movie
26 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movie follows a typical Lifetime movie plot/formula, but with higher production value and slightly more R rated scenes. It's not as bad as the recent reviews suggest. Without giving too much away, a third party enters the marriage. Things are kind of ambiguous until the end. It's a decent watch if you have nothing else to watch and don't want anything too heavy.

Really enjoyed it!

This was a fun watch! I thought it was great to see the young men being objectified rather than the young women! It felt scandalous in a slightly cringey way like a VC Andrews story would. Don't expect a masterpiece obviously it's a lifetime movie, but in my opinion is one of the better ones!

Pretty bad

Warning: Spoilers
Huh? Why would Bradly Cooper's character kill himself in this day and age when people understand addiction is a disease. People would root for him for going through rehab and getting clean like he did. Supposedly he was concerned with the impact his drugs would have on her career. What about the impact his suicide had on her career. Also what would be so terrible if she took off some time for her career for him. Plus she could find another producer who would put him in the show with her. She loves him and he gave her her start. Also there is little depth shown in regard to their histories and his past. It's fairly superficial in that regard. The best parts were Lady Gaga's Voice and The Shallows song. Three stars for those. But this story is very dated for modern times.

I was rooting for Penny
22 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is better than average for a Lifetime movie. Personally I was rooting for Penny. When the bully guy showed up at the bbq, the friend should have acted much more quickly and strongly to protect Penny. What Penny went through in high school would have been extremely traumatic.

One of the worst movies I have ever seen
7 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The last half turned into an unintended comedy. The first half wasn't much better. I couldn't stop thinking about Zoolander, with "Kill the Malaysian Prime Minister!" And John Cusack in the little red riding hood outfits. What did I just watch and pay for!

So good!

Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this movie. You really get a feel for what it is like to be a stalking victim! Claire Foy was fantastic throughout. And Matt Damon's scene was intense.

In regard to many other reviewers complaining about all the things that wouldn't happen in a psych hospital - granted liberties are taken in that regard. But a main point in the movie is that this is a seedy dishonest private psych hospital, so you have to keep in mind that a hospital doing involuntary admissions illegally, might likely be doing other unethical and illegal things.
