Pushpaka Vimana (2017)
An Impressive portrayal of Father-daughter relationship and how the bond is unbreakable even in dire circumstances
This movie is all about the exceptional bond between a daughter and her disabled father. The entire movie revolves around these two characters, their stages of different emotions, and how their bond gets stronger with time.
Brilliant script and screenplay, simple setting set in the late 80s(I think). This movie takes the audience on an emotional journey. From the start, you feel connected to the main characters and throughout the movie, you start to empathize with the trials they have to face and what life has to offer. The Dialogues are witty, intelligent and conveys perfectly. I personally liked the humour and witty and sarcastic exchanges between various characters in the movie.
I would definitely recommend everyone to watch this to experience and empathize with such characters. Only negative I can point out is that towards the end, the story became too intense and the movie stretched out inappropriately longer than it should have.
Overall, a great, intense and humour-filled movie which can be enjoyed by a family.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Perfect Mix of Nostalgia and New introductions
Star Wars: The Force awakens was satisfying to watch after waiting for one year since the first trailer release. The film-makers have executed it with zeal. Elements from the previous episodes drawing nostalgia from the fans and introduction to a new generation of characters have been portrayed perfectly. Daisy Ridley who played Rey has a bright future ahead and this movie has given her the jump- start. The movie also deals with sexist stereotypes and proves that women are not powerless and can do anything equal to what men can do. Most Disney movies in the past have been about saving Princesses and this movie certainly doesn't involve that.I had another expectation of Disney where it always ends on a happy note proved me wrong. Overall, great film by JJ Abraham, he managed to not disappoint the old star wars fan boys and he managed to make it in such a way that people unfamiliar with Star Wars can also enjoy it. The Force Awakens has set a new Bar for the next 2 movies. I am sure people will have higher expectations and I hope JJ Abrahams delivers.
The Martian (2015)
Saving Matt Damon
This is the third movie in which Matt Damon has acted in where he is stranded in another place and needs to be saved. Maybe it is not a coincidence. I guess he fits the role well. With his Impressive talent, I think there will be more movies in the future where Matt Damon stars in these kind of roles. Matt Damon's character in this movie is a brilliant Engineer and a Biologist. A little too arrogant for his own good, He portrays how any educated person can survive just by applying their knowledge.
'The Martian' is a brilliant adaptation from the Novel. The Movie has incredible Scientific accuracy right from the Laws of thermodynamics to simple botanical processes. Well, that is what you expect from a Ridley Scott movie. However, 'The Martian' is unlike Ridley Scott. It is quite different from 'Alien' and 'Prometheus', although there are massive references to his former movies. The movie is all about the basic human instinct of survival with a touch of Science coupled with genius minds at work. The film is surprisingly humorous and brought out some good laughs.
What I liked about this movie was the heavy applications of space flight dynamics and mathematics relevant to it. Additionally, the botanist's fantasy to grow plants in extreme conditions another planet is well depicted here.Likewise, as mentioned in the trivia, I liked the Idea of the planet Mars being an antagonist metaphorically. It signifies humans against the massive powers of the natural world and how humans can tackle it together.
Compared to recent Science Fiction movies like 'Gravity' and 'Interstellar', there were no brilliant cinematic scenes showing the landscape of Mars or the awe-inducing visuals of space. Nonetheless, it can be forgiven because the movie focuses on how humans use their machines to survive.
Overall, I would say that it is a brilliant movie with some amount of acceptable humour. It idealizes gender equality by having a woman commander of the 'hermes'. It also includes an International cooperation with China.
Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)
Witty and Bond-like with a touch of British humour
Kingsman: The secret service is one of the few movies which can make the viewer laugh even though there are brutal action scenes. It is the only movie where even genocide can seem humorous. It brings back the classic James Bond style and the concept of spy agents. Usage of futuristic gadgets, glamour, adventures including traversing the globe and of course, a lot of action-packed sequences. The music which is integrated with certain scenes is brilliant and the screenplay is beyond ordinary. I may be biased towards British movies because anything British fascinates me.
This movie is brilliantly made in terms of action and humour. Even though it has a cliché spy story, it is portrayed differently.
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
Brilliant comedy and murder mystery
I have to start by saying that this is my first Wes Anderson film. The title piqued my interest so I decided to give it a try. I am not disappointed at all. The actors performed exceptionally well and the characters in the story came out naturally. Comedy hits you in the face and it is there throughout the movie at unexpected places. Even though some jokes were slapstick, it was subtly portrayed.
The background score gave life to different situations and the music was cheerful throughout the movie. It takes a genius of a writer to convert what seems to be a conventional drama into a murder mystery.
The settings were lively and the landscapes and scenarios were beautiful. 10 points for Witty dialogs combined with exquisite poetry.
Paddington (2014)
Pleasantly entertaining
A pleasing movie with a simple screenplay. It was an entertaining 90 minutes although not extraordinary. Just another normal movie about the relationship between humans and animals in this modern world.
The movie portrays the busy life of modern city of London and how everybody is ignorant of their environment. The beauty of nature and its activities are often overlooked. It also stresses on the fact that animals are going through difficult times and they have humane feelings like love, guilt, happiness, obsession with marmalade, longing for home. The bear also makes the family realize its lost morales of kindness, sharing and happiness.
The story also features a typical 'bad guy' in form of Nicole kidman who seems to be starring in many negative roles lately. So Nicole's character tries to abduct the bear for her own selfish needs and the rest of the movie goes on about how the family tries to save the bear.
Overall, a good entertainer for children and animal lovers will enjoy this.
