Wanted (2008)

A perfect blend of triumph and heartache
21 August 2023
Anyone who has ever felt less than, or betrayed, or just plain tired of getting pushed around, this movie should have you standing (figuratively) and shouting "YES!" especially when you learn what CAN be done if your mind is set to it. What you want CAN BE what you get, but not without pain and a little bloodshed on your part.

Saying you're sorry was never more humerus than here. It can also be poignant and show a window into the mind and heart of the apologist. Not all bad deeds are "bad," and not all good deeds are "good."

Misconception, deception; corruption, and self servitude can be your worst enemy or your best friend. So pitch the prescription into the trash where it belongs and BE what you want.

WTF again?!
22 October 2022
Started off decent enough until 40 minutes in when once again dogs are horribly killed. WHY do screenwriters feel the need to add in unnecessary and gratuitously cruel treatment of animals? It seems to be a recurring theme: Horror/action/suspense/thriller movie seems innocuous enough at the beginning, but the INSTANT a pet (whatever kind) enters into the scene, I know it's going to be killed brutally and senselessly and for no other reason than shock value (or perverse pleasure). The Tom Cruise movie "Jack Reacher" starts with his dog in his apartment just as the bad guys break in and kill the dog. Why? To make the audience hate them all the more? Better writing is a more effective tool.

WHY is it that the Motion Picture Association of America ratings system requires disclaimers such as drinking, drug use, smoking, language, gore, etceteras, yet does NOT require depictions (suggestive scenes or whatever) of animal cruelty be disclaimed? Something is seriously wrong here.

Thoroughly unnecessary and appalling

Warning: Spoilers
Animated or not, this loathsome episode holds NO relevance to the series, and has no place being included. The first ten minutes shows a small litter of kittens being taken away from their mother, put in a weighted cloth bag tied shut and thrown into a lake to drown. Even more disgusting is they added in the sounds of the poor, struggling creatures narrated by their mother's thoughts.

I cannot imagine how dark and cruel and revolting the writers, illustrators, and producers must be to create this piece of excrement. Why Netflix agreed to air it is beyond me. I watched the entire episode desperately seeking ANY form of redeeming value or purpose. I found exactly the opposite. The Sandman series has its dark moments to be sure, but they all deal with people. I have no issue with the display of cruelty and torture of people. We are the worst species on the planet, and no one can argue that with any success. This vulgar episode is clear indication of how truly despicable mankind is. Ironically, episode one of season four of "Stranger Things" has a disclaimer and warning about children being murdered in the facility where they were created and how some viewers may find the scenes "disturbing," yet this had none. No warning or disclaimer that many viewers will want to vomit after enduring the beginning of this particular episode.

If S2E1 is anything like this they will lose two viewers at a minimum and garner themselves an equally negative review.

I would really like to give this a higher rating

Warning: Spoilers
Sadly, most of the other reviews described this perfectly. It reminded me of a bad imitation of "The Exorcist." It's like reaching for a Godiva chocolate only to discover its sugar-free carob. It had a couple (as in two) places that made me jump a little. The upside down spider-walk always gets me, and this had a scene similar. Close-but-not-quite-there.

There were a couple of very definite 10-star scenes: seeing Derek (Brian Gross) shirtless and a couple with him wearing only boxers. Hubba-hubba! Definitely pause-button worthy.

The rest of the movie was...mmmm...not horrible, per se, but I wouldn't wake up pining to watch it again.

Sorry, Bri...

Holocaust (1978)
10/10
This should be required viewing in every elementary school

I know my headline statement will disturb many people. To them I say, "GOOD!" People NEED to be disturbed by blind racism and the horrors hate begets. Our children are far too insulated and sheltered from the World's history. This has nothing to do with CRT or 'wokeism'. It has to do with what happens when WE do nothing but sit back and watch atrocities be committed against our neighbors and friends, and not lift one single finger to assist them.

My mother let me watch all five episodes at the tender age of 11 years old. She believed it was important that I know the facts and the horrors of the Holocaust. She wanted me and my two older brothers to understand what had happened not so long before we were all born. Events she herself lived through as a child and adolescent. In her youth, she remembered living in a government housing project where the houses were placed to form the shape of an airplane. She even drew a picture of it and pointed to the part of the right wing where her house was. She remembers my great-great grandparents were forbidden to cross the only bridge in miles from their farm in Upstate New York, and instead had to find a shallow part of the stream to ford in order to get to and from town. Why? Because they were from Poland. It didn't matter they'd been naturalized citizens and had been in this country for decades. They were originally from Poland. No additional reason was given nor could be sought.

It's now been 44 years since I saw this limited series, but I remember it like it was yesterday. It was that impactful. It would be equal to its cousin, Schindler's List, that was released 16 years later. Both this limited 5-episode series and the 195 minute (3 hours, 15 minutes) film were and are two of the most powerful movies ever made. I would hazard to say 'The Diary of Anne Frank' pales in comparison.

If you have not seen 'Holocaust' or 'Schindler's List,' I strongly urge you to. Compare what you watched to what's NOT being taught. Then try convincing me my headline is wrong.
