Doctor Who: Boom (2024)
Among the episodes I will never watch again.
Doctor Who always has a habit of putting out episodes in their season that you never want to see again. This is one of them. Completely useless, boring, boring dialogue, and it no value whatsoever. Other people may claim it has value, but it doesn't. This is up there with fear her, but worse. If this were the very first Doctor Who episode I had ever seen, I would never watch it again. The premise is silly the landline is lame and an overdone theme, and there seems to be no care whatsoever for the other people who died, only care that Ruby is OK. Very poorly planned plot and just something to fill in empty space.
Extraordinary (2023)
Seems to be a modern version of Piers Anthony's "A Spell for Chameleon."
Fun show so far, but feels based on the fantasy books starting in the 70s by Piers Anthony, where Bink lives in a land where everyone has a magic "talent," but he doesn't seem to have one, and he is on a quest to discover what his is, if he has one. Will be interesting to see if the plot turns out to be the same. The book series of Xanth is still going on, with 48 books so far. So far I haven't seen the idea of really strong super powers, or "talents." On his quest, Bink runs into some really powerful "magicians," one who is trying to take over the world, and one a powerful illusionist. Chameleon is a person cursed with morphing from intelligent to unintelligent every month.
The Sum of Us (1994)
Excellent movie
I really loved this movie, not just because of the actors, but because the movie really goes to the heart of who we are as people, and shows how we all are part of each other. It is a touching and funny story of love and acceptance. Russell Crowe does a good job as the son, but Jack Thompson really is the star of the movie, his character is the heart of the show. Through him we see the world differently, and we see a parent who loves his child and only wants what is best for them. Many of us could learn some real lessons from this. The backdrop of Sydney adds a little extra charm, in that we see a part of the world with which most of us are not familiar. I have recommended this movie to many friends, and each of them has truly enjoyed the movie, and related to it.
