Incubus (2002)
A complete load of rubbish!
I watched an English dub of this film, which, though it's hard to believe such a thing is possible, made a dreadful movie even worse. The plot was infantile, the 'eroticism' was about as non-erotic as it is possible to get and the actors, of both genders, were hardly blood tingling! I think the actors who read the dubbed script, particularly the male lead, learned the fine nuances of delivery from reading the warnings on the back of cigarette packets.
I have tried, as I do when writing reviews for the I.M.D.B, to find a single redeeming thing about the film but I am defeated. The film was a failure on almost every front - as a horror movie it was laughable, as an erotic film it was a bore and the story line was, I'm sure written by a couple of seven-year-olds!
Altogether a complete waste of 90 minutes. Mr Franco will never be a Martin Scorsese or even a Tinto Brass but this is awful even by his standards!
Collateral (2004)
An exciting film with a ludicrous plot
First off I have to admit that I find it difficult to take Tom Cruise seriously in any role which requires the distillation of menace. He is too lightweight to give much credibility to the role of a professional hit man. Jamie Foxx, on the other hand, is a credible innocent victim caught up in a nightmare taxi ride. The story is exciting enough but the circumstances around the involvement of Foxx in the night's horrors is too ludicrous for words. That a professional hit man would deposit his first victim on the roof of the cab he is using to carry out his contract is so stupid as to completely discredit the remainder of the movie. That such a man would use an innocent dupe to carry him around is feasible but that said dupe would be fully conversant with the man's murderous schedule is not. I really cannot understand the high ratings given to the movie for the script might have done justice to a fifth grade essay competition but little more. Sorry to say it but both Cruise and Foxx have done better things.
