Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
sinister movie that hits home
The movie was truly sinister and if you know about the real ancient beliefs of Sam Hain, and Halloween, there are people that would try something like this out there, which makes the movie watchable to reveal just how sinister society secrets can be and just how obsessed and truly hateful people can be. So you cannot criticize something that for some reason I have watched 50 times or more in my life. Something about it is mesmerizing. I am also a victim of a secret society so this movie hit home. In the ancient times sacrificed of children, animals and people did indeed take place and are indeed taboo subjects. I believe they still go on today, and that true satanism is done underground because of this kind of action that is truly horrible and detestable. I know where the director was going here and what he wanted to say no matter what others had to say about it, negative (ignorance) or positive.
Permanent Record (1988)
One of the best movies I have seen and a convicting one!
I have to first comment on why the overall rating was only 6.2 and it shows that most people do not understand or get this type of movie. First and foremost the song sung solo by the young lady at the end of the movie MADE the movie more of what it already was, beautiful, truthful, hard-hitting and well-spoken. Because for one to understand any good movie you must also accept and understand the moving and deep music that goes along with it. This movie dealt with a very hard-hitting subject that to this day is still very much real. It is not cliché or taboo. It is very real and I myself have known several people to commit suicide. The real point here is understanding just what the director intended you to get, and most did not get this movie, and even admitted it openly. I got every part of this movie and loved every part of it, and although it is hard to deal with, this is what makes it such a good movie. It is not made to entertain you, but to move you and to educate you. This is not made for opinion, for discussion or for interpretation. This movie was made to last a lifetime, and it has to those who can grasp it completely. It is not about the actors, whom did an excellent job, but about what it says.
Safe (1995)
Excellent, moving and thought-provoking movie
I first saw this movie through a digital cable service and was immediately captivated by the music and the cinematography which painted the movie well to start with. I do not watch a movie because of how famous or good the actor is, but how well it is produced which in turn moves me, and which I can relate and connect to. The character of Carol is so much like me and what I went through in my life and past. I have spoken with the director in detail concerning this movie and I can tell you that unfortunately most descriptions or comments about this movie on this message board were off, not entirely correct or just plain ignorantly rude. The person who said "you either get this movie or you don't" had it exactly right. You need to have an open mind and heart while watching this presentation and really feel and connect with what is being shown and said. There were comments about Wrenwood being "new age" on this message board and elsewhere in other places out there, and yet that is not even mentioned anywhere in the movie. The label of "new age" is a misnomer as everything that is said can be compared to passages in the Bible as well. I see so much struggle with that term but we are living, and have been living in an age for a very long time of so many things going on and we need to learn that everything we do see and feel comes first from the inside. That is how faith, the spiritual and love work and healing happens from all of that. This movie is so profound and deep, and I never stop for a moment watching it. To those who say it is slow in some parts, this movie is made exactly the way it was supposed to be, flawless in every way. It is not meant to entertain, but to enlighten and to educate and to help others who have faced so much in life like Carol, and who have often been misunderstood, rejected and left alone. Always watch a movie like this through the eyes of love and depth. This is what the director meant by the "safe" place and seeing the bigger picture. I applaud the director for the bold and deep creation of this movie.
Jack (1996)
Excellent, heart-warming and rare movie I loved!
I have always loved all of Robin Williams movies and this is an awesome movie that many people take for granted and misunderstand. If you really see this through the eyes of depth and love and truth then you will see that we often forget and are afraid to believe in what is real and true. jack is a symbol of all innocence and kindness, not meaning to hurt anyone and only being human dealing with something that is not his fault. I cry in this movie every time and can totally relate to what is being said. The feelings of love, friendship and emotion as well as deep thinking and feeling is often lost. Sad because that is what makes us a better person and a more caring person.
"Jack, you'll never be regular. You're spectacular."--Mr. Woodruff (Bill Cosby) Cosby asks Jack if he's ever sat and looked at the stars in the night sky. The sky is filled with regular stars. They burn slowly and faintly and their light lasts a long time. But, if you're lucky and you're looking in the right direction at just the right moment you'll see a shooting star. You almost never see them. They're rare. He tells him he's a shooting star amongst regular stars. A shooting star is wonderful, but passes quickly. It's only here for a moment but while it's here the other stars stop and watch.
"When a shooting star streaks through the blackness turning night into day, make a wish and think of me and make your life spectacular. I know I did."--Jack (Robin Williams)
Donnie Darko (2001)
ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES I HAVE EVER SEEN HANDS DOWN!
Pros: Deep and thought provoking and most will never totally understand it, which means this movie's main point is not really for entertainment, but for strengthening of someone who feels and understands it completely! Cons: Nothing
I have watched this movie several times. I not only love the music, but the fact that it goes where most movies never go. I find the character of Donnie Darko in sync with my own life in which I feel and see and understand at a deeper level than others. Also it shows how others simply do not understand who I really am and as a matter of fact, never will in all ways. And that is actually good. It is what makes me unique and this gives me strength as well in my own heart and life. Most will be lost through the movie because they are expecting something else. Of course that is how most people perceive any movie when they go watch it and that is why they would never understand a movie of this caliber and nature in the first place. Very deep movie and I am glad it was made the way it was. The director and author were not interested in the money issue, but rather they really wanted to show us and create for us. This movie is certainly as a fact not going to be understood or grasped by everyone, but that does not mean it is a bad movie either. 5 stars is not good enough for this movie. Should show how selfish and mean people can be, and Donnie through the looking glass is where most of us miss it. By the way, no one should even think this is anything like "American Pie", movies which I totally detest and think are very sick and immature in nature and not meant to have any real meaning of a sensitive nature. Donnie Darko movie most definitely does. Way to go!
Fathers and Sons (1992)
EXCELLENT MOVIE! Highly recommended!
I cannot believe how some critics or people want to rate this movie bad or think they can judge it poorly in their ignorant understanding of it. Are people today just scared or turned off by any kind of real or tender feelings or understanding of depth in life and emotion? It seems those that did not think good about this movie does. This was one of the very best movies I have ever seen, right up there with all my other favorites. The feeling and atmosphere was awesome and touching and the acting by Jeff was the very best he has ever done and everyone that saw the movie with me thought so as well. Many will never understand this movie and I feel very sorry for you that you do not. This is a classic that is underrated. I have seen it MANY times and can totally relate. Do not think you understand something when you do not because you have no place or business even thinking you do and giving it a false negative rating. I bought this digital video disc as soon as it was released. It was much better than most of the critically acclaimed movies and the music soundtrack was very good, which helped the movie a lot. Kudos to the director who took the risk to tell it like it is. Thank you.
