Quite possibly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Wooden acting, stilted dialogue, obviously fake fist fights, and a story that defies all attempts at any possibility of believability. The story makes no sense whatsoever; the characters are uniformly greedy and untrustworthy except for Scott who seems to accept his imprisonment and hanging with little or no emotion. After working hard to raise his stake, he seems not at all bothered when it is stolen from him. The Mexican characters are insulting stereotypes as are the white cowboy villains. At one point, Scott and friends tie up the bad guys who want to kill him and leave them alone and without taking their horses and rifles. Pretty dumb illogical move. It's so bad it's a comedy. It's classic fodder for MST3K.

Meh

Warning: Spoilers
Three episodes in and I am not impressed. Subpar writing and acting depending on stereotypes rather than complex characterization. There's a mystery with enough clues to keep us watching, but depending on a plot that's not particularly unique or original is no way to attract and keep viewers. There is such a thing as too many subplots superficially explored as opposed to deeper, intricate plots. And why don't these ranchers ever actually do ranch work?

Warning: Spoilers
Although this series has had many bad episodes, this is easily the worst episode of Season 1. Nothing that happened in this episode was even remotely believable. From allowing civilians to interrogate to transporting him to a kill site with hardly any security to the whole rescue, it was absurd and funny on all the wrong ways.

Neglected a Major Facet of the Story

Warning: Spoilers
So at the end we are left with the most important question unanswered: why did the FBI target a small time black kid in order to gain possession of his grandfather's store through forfeiture laws? Clearly there was more to this situation and we are left wondering what the FBI's real motive was.

A great "bad" film!
4 August 2005
I believe that I read somewhere that Roger Corman made this film in 4 days. I first saw it on a late Friday night weekly bad movie show from Channel 8 in Cleveland, Ohio, hosted by Ernie Andersen under the moniker "Ghoulardi". You can look him up on IMDb. He had great fun at the expense of this film which he selected as the all-time worst sci-fi film ever shown on his show. He would insert himself into the film and "interact" with the characters and turn the film into an hilarious romp. After commercial breaks, all sorts of hilarious hijinks would ensue that made it worthwhile to stay up late. I found this film on Ebay on DVD and have enjoyed it immensely. Find a copy and view it - you won't be sorry!

Worse than "Manos, Hands of Fate"?
6 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I visited Istanbul in the summer of 1989 and rented this film afterwards, hoping to revisit some of this incredible city. Boy, was I disappointed! Virtually no city scenery (or plot or character development, for that matter) Although, I do love the way the hotel desk clerk answers, "I'm sorry" to every question or comment that Timothy Bottoms makes. This film makes "Plan 9 From Outer Space" look like "Million Dollar Baby". I wish I could understand a mind that didn't find this movie boring - it might unlock the secret of how to not be bored in other tedious situations. Save your money and rent "Napoleon Dynamite" instead.

Skip the full length movie; watch the short version!
31 March 2004
I watched the feature length "director's cut", then viewed the 37 minute short version on the dvd. The short film is much better! It's more faithful to the PKD story and captures the theme of identity and illusion vs reality more concisely. It's essentially the beginning and ending of the feature w/additional scenes that flesh out the characters. The short makes Olham a little more contradictory - he tells his wife that his project is a good thing, then he questions what he's doing with his friend at the Project. What's missing is the interminable chase that's been done better in innumerable films (see The Running Man for example). Vincent D'Onofrio is a particularly good villain who's not really a villain (or is he?)......................
