NCIS: Kill Screen (2011)
Season 8, Episode 16
4/10
Sloppy writing. Totally ridiculous, so much computer nonsense.
8 September 2018
I really like NCIS, it's usually fun to watch, even with the occasional plot-holes and shallow science. This episode is the worst out of the first 8 seasons, in my opinion. You don't have to know much about computers to realize just how pathetic some of the stuff really is.

The description of the term "Kill Screen", for one, feels like a bad joke, even worse than having Abby and McGee both hack something using the same keyboard on one of the early episodes of the series. "A player getting such a high score, that the game can't handle it and crashes"? C'mon! That could've been an issue during the 1970's, and even then I doubt anyone would've taken it seriously.

Then, the funny idea that shooting a monitor should have any impact on the computer itself. Even my grandmother knows that the only thing the monitor does is display images and videos, while what actually does the "computing" is a totally different part of the computer.

Those issues, plus the entire array of stupid computer and gaming clichés all along the episode, show that none of the people involved in the writing process of the episode had a clue about computers. That's just bad, sloppy writing, and it's a shame, because this show has so much talent. How hard is it for a show of that magnitude to have someone who knows computers go over the script and suggest corrections?

NCIS: Dead Man Talking (2004)
Season 1, Episode 19
9/10
One of the better episodes of NCIS I've watched so far.
13 February 2018
The episode starts pretty dramatically, as it turns out the murder victim is someone all the main characters know and respect. While the obvious drama does get its place during the episode, there's still plenty of room left for the investigation itself, which follows a rather winding road and quite a few surprises, including a connection to an old NCIS case, which had been considered mostly solved up until now.

In light of some other reviewers bringing up claims as if this episode is offensive or stereotypical in nature, I must point out that while being a liberal, open-minded person, I don't share that view at all. As far as I was concerned, there was no shaming or discriminating of any kind - just a good, interesting plot unfolding.

Sanctuary: Fugue (2011)
Season 4, Episode 8
9/10
I usually hate musicals, but I really enjoyed this episode!
15 August 2017
Many shows tend to try and spice themselves up by trying all sorts of unique approaches, such as musical episodes. I can recall at least one musical episode of Xena: The Warrior Princess, and while I can't recall the specifics, I can vaguely remember other sci-fi / fantasy shows trying it as well.

Like the title says, describing myself as someone who's generally not a fan of musicals would be a major understatement. Surprisingly enough, I really enjoyed Fugue. I usually find musicals extremely dull and boring, as if the singing was supposed to be enough to carry the entire show on its shoulders. Obviously, not the case here. Fugue, just like any typical episode of Sanctuary, comes with an entire arsenal of tools meant to tell its story, with the singing being just one of them. We get the usual doses of drama, sci-fi and horror, delivered by great dialog, awesome visual effects, and yes - this time also by singing.

I really don't get the extreme negative reviews this episode received. They kind of made me wonder if those reviewers really bothered watching the entire episode, or perhaps just used the singing as an excuse to bash a series they didn't like to begin with. Even if you don't like the singing, this episode has plenty of other things to offer, and I consider it one of the better episodes of the series.

A nice low-budget fantasy movie!
1 August 2015
I've been reading the other reviews this movie received, and it looks like the major negatives the reviewers have mentioned are only relevant in comparison to the previous movie on the series. While I haven't watched the first movie yet (haven't had the chance), I obviously don't share those reviewers' perspective.

In fact, I kind of liked this movie. Sure, it's obviously a low-budget movie, the visual effects are decent, at best, but it has a nice story, good acting (for the most part, at least), and a really nice soundtrack, in my opinion, which I consider an important part of any movie or TV show.

While this movie is not for everyone, I would recommend it to any real fans of the fantasy genre. I know I am one, and I definitely enjoyed the movie.

By the way, when you watch the movie, make sure you wait until after the ending credits for another short yet funny scene. :)

A surprisingly good indie fantasy movie!
24 April 2015
I wasn't sure about this movie when I was considering whether or not to back it on Kickstarter, but I went for it anyway. Even after the Kickstarter campaign succeeded and I got the movie, it took me a while to actually watch it, not being sure what to expect from it, while having so many other promising movies and TV shows to watch.

But when I eventually did bother to insert the DVD into my PC's drive and start watching, I was pleasantly surprised, and by the time I got to the second half, I was beating myself up for not watching it earlier! Sure, the first half of the movie is a bit slow and the entire movie is far from being a masterpiece. There were long minutes I felt like this movie might end up being a disappointment after-all. But that feeling faded away very quickly, as I kept watching, and by the end of the movie, I was sure I was going to back the second movie on Kickstarter as well. At the time of typing these words (April 24th, 2015), the campaign is coming up on its final week, so if you're reading this in time, please consider giving your support. :)

A nice fantasy movie!
24 April 2015
I bought this movie (or is it a mini-series?) on DVD quite a while back, and only recently bothered to watch it. While it had its slow parts, it did keep me interested enough to keep watching, despite being long.

It's one of those movies I wouldn't recommend to everyone, as it lacks some of the fancy and "shiny" glow we all expect when watching such movies, but I believe anyone who likes the fantasy genre enough, will enjoy and appreciate this movie, despite not being a masterpiece.

One reviewer in particular insisted that the story wasn't original, but I disagree. While some of the story elements here we have seen before, this movie does bring enough original elements and twists of its own for me to consider it interesting and original enough to justify its existence.

I'm familiar with some of writer Sam Egan's work (The Outer Limits, Sanctuary, Continuum) and while "Knights Of Bloodsteel" might not be his best work, it was fun and interesting to watch. It was also fun to watch David James Elliot (Commander Rabb on JAG) playing Serragoth.

Barcelona (1994)

One of the most boring and tedious films I've ever watched.
24 April 2015
I noticed this movie has quite a lot of reviews here, some really positive, some really negative. Unfortunately, I'm siding with the negatives on this one.

It took me quite the effort to be patient and watch this movie all the (boring and tedious) way to the end, only to feel it ended up being a waste of time. I'm usually fond of drama movies and TV shows, but this one just seemed shallow and uninteresting. I couldn't get myself to give a sh!t about any of the characters or their stories, as there was nothing for me to relate to. I kept getting annoyed at the behavior of the two main characters, not being able to really figure them out. Some of the positive reviews I read here reminded me of the story of the Emperor's New Clothes, feeling that if it wasn't for the variety of individual tastes, I'd be one of the kids who would shout that the emperor was naked. But then again, can't argue with taste, so I can only express my own opinion here, which may or may not be similar to what anyone else is thinking.

My bottom line here, is that after reading some of the reviews and watching the movie myself, it's obviously not for everyone. Personally I hated it, but that might be just me. :)

One of the worst movies I tried watching lately.
24 April 2015
I hardly ever review a movie without watching it until the end, but this is one of the rare exceptions. 30 minutes in, this movie just bored the hell out of me, as there was nothing in it I liked, not even a little. Then again, the horror / comedy combination rarely works for me.

All it was for me, was cheap drama with a few bloody scenes, which I figured were meant to be both horrific *and* funny, although the only reason to laugh, in my opinion, was how pathetic they turned out to be.

I'm sorry, I'm really not in the habit of bashing movies, even ones I don't like, but this one really knocked me over the edge.

I suggest avoiding it, unless you really like shallow horror-comedy movies.

A nice drama / fantasy movie.
22 April 2015
While obviously not a masterpiece on the scale of The Princess Bride or The Never-ending Story, which were referenced in other reviews, Legends Of Nethiah does, in itself, provide a pleasant watching experience. The core of the story is quite basic - a kid who has to deal with his parents' divorce, and finds refuge in his grandfather's stories. Both Jared Young (Gabriel) and Robert Picardo (the grandfather) seem to give great performances, and on a simple, yet well-written movie like this, it's all I need.

I strongly disagree with the negative reviews this movie received here. It's definitely worth watching, in my opinion!

Criminal Minds: A Shade of Gray (2009)
Season 4, Episode 21
10/10
This one will stay with you for a while.
13 February 2012
I've been watching a lot of crime-drama movies and TV shows, so I don't get shocked by them very often. Most of the times I think to myself something like "Hmm... K, nice episode" and I move on. But every once in a while comes an episode like this one, which leaves me thinking, unable to shake it for a while, like I do most episodes.

And the thing is, I feel that way *despite* successfully predicting who the UnSub was right from the start. There was no surprise for me there, but I still found myself shocked. I suppose it goes a long way to show how well produced this episode really was from every possible aspect - writing, directing, acting, editing, and last but not least - the music, which tends to be underrated, but in my opinion, is very important.

I love Criminal Minds, and this episode made me love it even more. Well done, guys, and thanks for a memorable episode!
