Brain on Fire (2016)
Refreshingly different and well acted
As an almost qualified psyc student my perspective on this film may be somewhat different to others, as it accounted for many of the symptoms we learn about when attempting to understand abnormal psychology.
Outside that, this film adds something new to the movie industry. It is different from most films and contains all the elements a movie should contain; The relationships between the characters are believable, well emphasised and touching, there is love and there is truth. Most importantly though this film offers awareness.
Definitely worth the watch for anyone who has any interest in the area, or someone who is simply looking to enjoy a well acted and interesting story.
Overall this surpassed my expectations of anything Netflix typically has to offer.
Puberty Blues (2012)
Fantastic
I haven't seen anything in future advertised for the show and I really hope there is more to be seen because it is fantastic! Finally Australia has a show that is actually good! Sometimes a little offending, but for the most part the characters are easy to connect with and joyful to watch their dramas unfold. I really hope to see more of this flick! The actors, even though they are relatively 'un known' performed extremely well in every episode and so did some of the more 'famous' parental figures in the show. Definitely worth watching! When does the next season come out? And now I am finished typing but apparently have to have 10 lines minimum lol
Identity Thief (2013)
Very unhappy with this movie.
I have never walked out of a movie in my life weather I am enjoying it or not I have always felt I should get my moneys worth! Well that was not the case this time.... after about 40minutes of watching I felt like it was going in circles.... so me and my partner agreed to leave. This was a huge let down based on the cast... just a waste of time... I gave it 2 stars because I did laugh a couple times, but all in all it dragged on and on. I couldn't even be bothered writing this review nicely and properly because I honestly don't want to think about the experience more than I need to. Maybe a download or cheap rental, but not a night out.
Sleeping Beauty (2011)
Different
This is just a quick slapped together opinion.
I found this movie interesting and it kept my attention the entire time. I was slightly disappointed with the ending, however there were a lot of very important messages in this film particularly relevant to the world that we live in today.
I am surpirsed that it's rating is so low after actually taking the time to watch it.
I had a lot of depth and considering what most Australian films are like that makes me want to give this one even more credit.
Worth a watch I think.
Melancholia (2011)
great acting left me feeling irritated for most of the movie.
Just a quick slapped together opinion today.
Ultimately the acting was very good and the storyline interesting, however the lack of emotions and the coldness portrayed through the entire movie by Kirsten Dunst made it very boring and somewhat irritating to watch, not to mention her 'sister' who only seemed to try and add some excitement to any emotion of the film.
I found it very boring to watch and although there were some interesting philosophies there was very little of anything else going for it.
Sorry. Would not watch again and wouldn't have bothered the first time if I had known.
Magic Mike (2012)
Waste of time. No story, no laughs and no ending.
I'll make this straight to the point. It's not often I bother to make a review on movies but I thought I would try and save you all the trauma. I honestly hope this would be abit of fun for the girls (and Shane), but it's a no go. It goes for 2 hours and the whole time you are only watching it for the point of "i payed for this" and you sit there waiting for something to happen! They bring up a number of issues like drug problems, moving to Miami, relationship desires and business opportunities ... all of which never come to a conclusion and are more 'mentioned' rather than choosing one dilemma to focuss on and use for an actual plot. There is no comedy either. In my opinion just a total flop and even my straight male friend who came along insisted that the only decent part was the dancing which also really had nothing much going for it. Sorry guys worst movie I've wasted my time on in a long time.
