The Goblin (2017)
Spooky Fun
If you're looking for the next The Exorcist or The Omen, this isn't it, but it is a fine enjoyable fun low budget horror movie. It has its share of spooky moments and a marionette that may remind the viewer of Chucky. The main character is played by Robert Levey II who plays an adorable Oliver-like urchin. Highly recommended!
My Step-Dad's a Freakin' Vampire (2009)
New Cult Classic!
Just from the title you know you're in for cheesy campy fun and this movie delivers what the title suggests. This family project is very professionally put together with surprisingly good performances and an excellent score you would expect in a movie with 50 times the budget. The characters are well-developed and you grow to care about them, unlike today's slasher films where you just wonder how they're going to meet their end, and I was happy to see none of the ones I really cared about were sacrificed. The movie builds to a very satisfying climax on Halloween night. The special effects were a joy to watch and you have to laugh when our hero complains about having to go to school the morning after "Saving the World". Being a horror story told "tongue in cheek", despite the rating, I think this movie would be suitable for middle school age children. The movie is "fun", nothing to have nightmares over. I expect this movie to develop a following that will enjoy watching it over and over, probably a Halloween tradition!
Cicadas (2000)
awesome coming-of age movie not to be missed!
Cicadas is an awesome coming-of-age movie by a marvelous young director with a small budget that is sure to be looked back at years from now as the first sign of her brilliance. It centers around three kids who are basically left to fend for themselves as the parents have to be on the road making their livings -- a common problem in modern-day America. The young cast of major characters all do a wonderful job, especially Bryan Chafin as Simon and Lindsay Broockman as his older sister. Kat Candler directed, produced, and wrote this touching, at times painful movie, and should not be missed!
