Race to Dakar (2006)
This is the sort of reality show i WANT to see more of
I loved Long Way Round and wasn't even aware of Race to Dakar until i saw it on the shelves of my local supermarket. I bought it and after a slightly 'hmm will this be as good' first episode i decided that it was. Charlie Boorman was great as were the other members of the crew. Great to see him with Ewan again. There was a fair bit of swearing in it but that didn't bother me. As for their being no mention of it on the package. Thats more to do with the silly Excempt from Classification certificate that the BBFC have. They should have given it a 15 just for the language alone.
Highly recommended series, i want more!!
The Wire (2002)
Season 1 V Season 2
I imported both seasons on Region 1 DVD and viewed them 3 months apart. Season 1 i found to be excellent. I am a huge fan of the story arc in series like 24, Sopranos, Oz and Alias. So The Wire Season 1 was high on my list. The characters, the acting, the storyline were top notch.
(I always find that if you can remember most of the character names weeks after you have finished watching. Then thats a sign of great TV)
Season 2 however was a real slow burner. Out of the 12 episodes it took me up to the 9th or 10th to actually decide that i thought this season was worthy. It lacked the punch of Season 1 but did keep some of the characters albeit at a reduced level. I would highly recommend Season 1 but would state that you don't really need to bother with Season 2 as it seemed to b a bit of a waste of time. By no means "crap" it just wandered along at a snails pace with no real result. I have hopes that Season 3 will be a return to form though
