Mannequin (1937)
Best Looking Joan ever!
I am not a big Joan fan. However she is watchable in most of her movies. She and Tracy were understated and good here. Villain first hubby was not bad either. Main thing for me here was that she was absolutely beautiful in this movie. There is a softness here that is not displayed or photographed in her other pics. Adrian's clothes were not over the top but he was generous to her. I tried to see who did her hair and makeup. Those items completely flattered her. Less was more and it worked for Joan here. Could find no credits for hair/ makeup. Job well done. Decent movie. Story was believable. A different kind of Joan: nice.
Week-End Marriage (1932)
Message sucks, watch at your own risk.
I love old movies, especially pre-code films. I also Love Loretta Young. Beauty aside, she has sincerity, wit and range that make her so watchable and relatable. I am also a thrice divorced, black, female, retired attorney. I can watch many an old movie and still consider it good or entertaining despite a lot of undesirable content. But I can NOT abide this one. I am a woman of many words and this movie has left me speechless. I guess, to quote another reviewer, all it takes is sacrifice. Compromise would have made for a more realistic movie. Healthier too. This movie's message was not emotionally healthy for women in 1932 during the depression or anytime since then. Kinda afraid to start the next recorded movie.
Let's Do It Again (1953)
good remake
I love old movies. Loved the original and was pleasantly surprised by this one. Did not know I was watching a remake until a bit into the movie. The clothes were fabulous and the script was funny. I liked the songs and thought Wyman was better than Irene Dunn in her part. The 2 Rays were OK, but they were no match for Carey Grant and Ralph Belamy in the original. Good actors have a range and Wyman showed hers here. She was delightful as the sister. I think some reviewers were a little hard on this remake. It may not be as good as the original, but it was still great. No need for Ray Milland to be ashamed. Nice way for him make nice bucks. Every movie doesn't have to be a Lost Weekend or a Johnny Belinda. Folks would stop going to the movies if everything was intense. Watching this one was a great way to spend a lazy afternoon.
