VALUABLE INFORMATION
24 March 2023
This film was made in 1923. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS in 1925. This site had inaccurate running time, and the proof is on You Tube and Vimeo.

What people don't realize is that the wall of fire AND the water separation and rejoining was done in this film! NOBODY talks about it. WHY?? The plot is similar in both films, with and it features a girl being punished for her religion. Another interesting trivia is that the Ruler is the same as Loves of the Loves Of the pharao (1922) . That film, the ruler is a continuation of his the slaves and how they were abused. Moses is endowed with supernatural powers and creates the plagues, wall fire and the water separation and rejoining. I've watched both and the are not the same. I would like to see DeMille copied the movie or was inspired to create his own version after seeing this film.

producer's cut
28 October 2021
What a ripoff. The unrated producer's cut claims 70 minutes of unedited footage, yet runs 96 minutes compared to the 87 minute r rated cut. I have Halloween 666 and while it was not always good quality, I saw the unrated scenes, which are minimal.

This is a goof
4 June 2021
What is weird is that the picture of Earth was the size of the moon if you were looking at it from Earth. The Earth is over times larger than this. But the makers were going by the pictures on NASA missions. My question to NASA is how can you be on the moon and produce pictures of the Earth being moon size?

Frustrating to watch
16 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Sorry but we disagree on the whole 'Robert' series. I've seen them all and they are very frustrating. Unlikable characters and the doll is almost never shown. The first one was the worst. Wife seeing Robert move and the husband being an jerk by berating and making her feel like a crazy nut. Finally, you see a POV of the doll supposedly moving. That's it. I love all the doll movies except this one. I probably have all of them in some viewing format. Charles Band has crafted some good ones in his movies. Also, the Annebelle series is excellent.

An insult to horror anthology films
25 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Teen 'scream' flick with NO payoff. A werewolf segment that does NOT show the werewolf. A girl that is alone in the house when a 'guy,' as the story teller says, who scares her. NOTHING else happens. This is a very frustrating film because it only shows the result of whatever 'menace' was supposed to be happening, i.e. A little gore. Anyone who likes likes this move must be the same person who is young and one of the sheeple who will buy into anything. 'monsters, psychopaths, and ghosts' says synopsis, the only ones are in the writers dreams. Extremely stupid dialog that is embarrassing. Kids don't talk to each other like this. They got a couple of females that look like famous women actors, but they have no talent. Sci fi channel rejects. The guys are infantile as well.

Was broadcast in color
19 February 2021
This a high quality production, with Bernard Hermann score, Frederic March and Basil Rathbone. Memorable score! It was broadcast live, but at least someone had the foresight to make a tape copy. Too bad the original color elements didn't survive, as it's only available in black and white. I tinted my copy and watch it every Xmas. I'd like to see one of those colorizing sites do this one.

Many were better

Warning: Spoilers
It's been a long time since I've seen this film, but watching the trailer, it was clear that the snake was just a fake dummy, and I like snake movies. If she had morphed into a snake creature, like in the later movie SSSSS, that would have peaked my interest. In one review online, it freezes frame on Jack Kelly being attacked and there is no snake, just his hand. How's that for special effects? I also had to laugh at Ed Platt, the chief in Get Smart, as the cult leader. Nice try, Ed. Most of the cast are really pushing their talent overboard, and Faith falling in love with Thompson spoiled it for me. A conflicted hit woman? It's tough, with all the stars I really like, but put them in a different movie, like a great LEECH WOMAN.

Interesting changes to a couple of scenes
2 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER. I liked this version a lot, particularly the way Christopher Lee portrayed Evermonde. It's too bad this character gets killed off in all the versions no later than 40 minutes into the movies. This and the earlier ones, including the silent films, are the only ones I will watch again. There is only one problem I have with this version. The scene where Evermonde's coach runs over a child, the scene where the intruder kills Evermonde, and the killing of the nasty woman who tries to kill Lucy, are all either deleted or OFF CAMERA. What's with that??

Isabel Jewel steals the show.
2 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER. The scene with her awaiting the guillotine is memorable. Her acting over shadowed Colman. She deserved some kind of award for it. Maybe it's the violins, but that scene always chokes me up, because she portrays convincingly a little nobody who go caught in the mad hysteria of the revolution. No other of the same scenes in other versions even come close.

What shall I give a bonehead for Christmas
16 December 2019
This film has been widely panned by many, but I give it high marks for many reasons. The people who sang, sang with their real voices, with Craig Hill and Sally Fraser in a remarkable duet. The music was by the famous Bernard Herrmann. Many of the songs touch me till this day, particularly 'what shall I give my love for Christmas.' The story did well with the basic plot, and the actors fine. It's understandable that someone not living as a youth back then can't comprehend the feeling I get when I run over a MST2K alien with my big Chrysler station wagon. Eat my hemi..

Hidden classic
16 May 2018
When I saw this unobtainable remake on one of the cable channels, I was immediately drawn in, which was the opposite of what I was expecting. Credit the director for this, as it may not have been possible if it had been by a less than skilled professional. He got the most out of the actors, and and the sets were believable. I give this movie high marks for production value and telling the story again, but just as compelling a way.

Obscure sci fi drama
30 November 2017
After watching this again, from an original film copy, I was most impressed by the technical special effects by Albert Whitlock. The story is mostly drama, with the actual flight around 40 minutes into the film. The plane appears again later on. I was really impressed by the plane in flight. I couldn't tell it was a model. And the sound effects it made were very impressive. In the plot, there may be someone on the team who isn't who he seems. Very thrilling end to the film. Highly recommend.

Spotted this error with my long memory of old TV
21 September 2017
Apparently, nobody has caught this error, in the Marilyn part of the film. It talks about Dorathy Killgallen, but it shows a picture of Ann Francis. When I saw that, I stopped it and went back to make sure. Both were on What's My Line, where that clip was taken from. I seem to remember all these old time people and even their faces. Saw them as a kid, and that long memory still works. Great doc which skillfully blends the UFO subject with real gov't cover-ups. Greer's message these days is about the deep, secret state, which does exist and the corporate news we are fed by mainstream media. NO real news can be gotten through any other sources other than sites like Free Thought Project. When I was a kid, I have to laugh about picking up radio news from Cuba on my old Airline radio, which had a short wave switch. I mention this, because they were reporting news from the INTERNATIONAL point of view. I quickly learned that the news is slanted and hand picked by the secret state for our consumption. I was almost shocked when I heard their news. It's the same all over the world. You would be surprised at other countries news programs and their commentary on us.

Watch for the funny bit
29 June 2017
This movie needs to be seen for the very funny bit on the airplane between a French passenger sitting next to Tom Smothers. He is Jean Pierre Bergeron. I laughed out loud, and I don't normally do that. I liked the movie, and all the other comedy players are also good. It's not as painful to watch as the reviewers state, who must not have gotten that joke. It's on You Tube if you'd like to catch it, or just read the quotes between the two. It's much funnier if you see the movie.

Should be available in U.S.
26 May 2017
There are some ways to get a DVD of this film. Since there is no more message boards, I"m giving some PAL format versions. There are two being sold on Ebay. One from Germany and one from England. Any true movie enthusiast should have that capability on a machine, so it's not all that hard to acquire it.

Widescreen?
27 March 2017
I just saw an HD copy on You Tube, but it's wide screen. The aspect ratio must be at least 185. It seems to be 16 by 9 compatible. I don't have the link, but it's easily found as long as it lasts. I may try to change the aspect ration on my download, since their heads are a little squashed, but it is odd that someone would do that to a film. It's definitely top quality images.

Not for the cheese of heart
29 October 2015
I often laugh out loud when I read reviews that are completely by uneducated cheeseheads (those who's vocabulary consists of one word to describe a movie like this.. cheese. To fully appreciate this film, you to look at it's history regarding uncut, cut, good print, bad print, etc. I was very frustrated trying to find a great, full screen print of this movie until I found it on AMC, but of course it was heavily cut. So I took scenes from two other sources that were uncut, but not as good quality, and ' Frankensteined' a print that I could appreciate for all it's glory, something that nobody reviewing this film can fully understand, and that's why they write based on ignorance.

long and cheesy animated dinosaur battle which makes Gumby look like 'Jurassic Par
27 September 2015
long and cheesy animated dinosaur battle which makes Gumby look like 'Jurassic Park. This was a quote from one of the reviewers, who I am assuming, saw in the trivia section of this title, read that the dinosaur sequence was made by Willis O'brien and Ray Harryhausen together for an Irwin Allen movie. If that reviewer knows this fact, then I can honor his 'cheezy' description, but I gotta tell ya, it's a sad state of affairs when someone can't appreciate the fun of a movie like this. There are two reasons why I absolutely deride the word 'cheeze'. One, it is the name of a bootlegging company that puts out trash. Two, the name connotes a person under 30 who hasn't lived enough life to comment on it, who still lives in their parent's basement, and who can't look beyond their noses to the real 'so bad it's good' beauty of cinema past. I come from a background of loving them, since I was a loyal customer of BACKTRACK Video and Records in Seattle Wa, which specialized in Psychotronic movies, classic sci fi and horror from the '50s and '60s.

I could not disagree more
22 August 2015
{Exclamation marks at every sentence) I'm watching a movie called SINBAD: THE 5TH VOYAGE, and am astounded by how it was made. They took a typical Harryhausen plot and added creature effects that parody Harryhausen's, only they are computer rather than stop action, but they have a clay like texture even. The other effects are also high class. I'd recommend you give this a look. There's no question that this is a dedicated attempt to create a Harryhausen film without Harryhausen. It's too bad he's not alive to see it. The creatures look like his, not at all like those in the remakes of his other films. Patrick Stewart narrates. It's only 78 minutes long so it moves along sprightly.

30 somethings won't like it. They won't get it, because they are expecting creature effects from after 2000 not retro like this. This is where the title of my review applies.

My note to the director: Keep making these films because you are truly a fantasy guy who appreciates the greats of the past.

give this movie a chance
18 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I can see why Warner snapped up this one man written, produced and directed film before anyone else did. It's supposed to be a zombie film, but it's more of an alien invasion film because the people who are affected by the smoke from the meteors are mutated into alien like creatures. You have got to rent this movie! I was hooked right away with the characters alone, one in particular being the brother. It starts out with the typical party, so many others, but it's more incisive with the characters'personalities than most ....which are filler. During the party, there are two news reports, one of the president suddenly leaving a news conference, and another by the local channel describing icy meteors that will float by earth without any contact whatsoever. So they go outside to look at them as if they are entertainment. That lasts about 15 minutes, and then goes to a scene of one brother lying on the floor in the bathroom, hung over and not hearing the noise coming outside. But when he looks out the window, he sees mayhem everywhere and big meteor trails of smoke and burning office buildings, with military and news helicopters flying all over. The special effects are top notch, and very realistic. I couldn't tell that he wasn't in this landscape of mayhem for a second, it was that good. All the scenes of them running through the neighborhoods are the same excellent CGI. I haven't been wowed all year by any other film. I wished it had lasted longer than it's 82 minutes.

Stay Away
1 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER: Although how can one spoil the spoiled? Fox (shame Here's why. Since they distributed it, I figured it couldn't be all bad ...wrong. Before this movie came out, there was a cute little minute and a half video on Youtube with a mechanized baby in a carriage, which was remotely controlled to move on it's own while the baby would rise up, puke, growl, or spit on people. It was very clever, but it was also a cleverly, deceptively designed way to fool, trick, gode, the public into thinking it would be in the movie that was a part of this short. IT WAS NOT. All the way through, I kept thinking, they better hurry up, cause that baby hasn't shown up yet, and she hasn't even had it yet,1 hour and 15 minutes into this pile of dung. In actuality, there was a baby doll laying on the darkly lit floor, shown at a distance, which didn't even move, and then a hooded figure covered it and whisked it away. They spent more money on that 3 minutes of video than they did in the whole damn movie. If they thought they were playing an April Fools joke on the public, since it came out on DVD very close to that month, they only succeeded in creating a lynch mob that would like to find them and string them up by their Buster Browns. In all my movie going years, I have never been so suckered and cheated by bogus advertising, promotion, and shilling by a once respectable company, Fox, and the new lows in indie film making depravity that they now seem to gravitate to, as in this "thing". I won't ever call it a film or movie again. Fool me once ...

Mutilations (1986)

Those who trash will never "get it".
5 June 2011
I take a lot of pride in the fact that I can fully appreciate a psychotronic movie, as I had occasion to see many of them at the now out of business Backtrack Video and Records in Seattle Washington. I also feel very lucky to own a VHS of this movie, of which I will never part with. I put MUTILATIONS in the same category as WINTERBEAST, another film that regularly gets trashed by, shall we say in a polite way, those who just don't get it. They don't get the fact that independent films back then could actually be above their heads, regarding the craftsmanship it takes to make a movie that is so funny at times that it couldn't have been anything but planned. That's not to say that the film is all campy, however. There are many scenes that are well crafted fright scenes. And anyone who takes the laborious time and effort to create stop-motion effects deserves a lot of credit, since very few movies employed those techniques back then. If a camp Oscar was ever a possibility, the guy who played the teacher would win hands down. So a big salute to the people who made this film, which stands out as one of the best in its genre. And thank god MST2000 hasn't gotten hold of it, because they would again deserve to be shot for souring a whole generation of would be fans who, rather than using their independent brains, just go along with what they see on the brainwashing TV set. But that's a whole different subject. I regularly search for films they they "comment" on, which, by the way, they edit to fit their verbose, non-intellectual humor. I know, because I've seen many of the uncut, unedited films in all their campy glory. Video Watchdog missed a huge opportunity to "out" that bunch, since they often do side by side comparisons of alternate versions of movies. The only "cheese" in my vocabulary is that which I eat, and anyone who uses that term automatically goes into the uninformed, unintelligent, generation of "watchers" who can't go beyond what they merely see.

Never knew what would happen next
13 May 2011
I loved this movie for several reasons. It has a great cast of supporting actors, and the lovely Brenda Sykes. It has a plot and storyline that kept me "glued" throughout the film. I usually fast forward through sex scenes these days, but I was fascinated with what there was here. But if you think this is just a love story, you're mistaken. This couple goes through many changes together, including those that take them into extremely dangerous waters. The movie was made in the cherished "exploitation" times of the great National General Film Corporation, where I and many others were in "Drive-In Heaven" every time we saw one of these independent films that had a message, which was told in a style of visuals that often shocked, engrossed, or at the least entertained us throughout the movie. This was one of those films. MGM should be commended for giving us this film, which I don't recall ever seeing when it came out, but thanks to wwmovies for making available. I see a lot of free play movies on Netflix, and one benefit has been to get me interested in the films that have fallen through the cracks, out of sight to our current DVD releases. I also read Psychotronic books, which review titles that many of us have never heard of. If you ever see a title that falls into this lost category, I urge you to Google the title under the heading "Watch ....(title)or "(title DVD)". You may be amazed at the fact that someone has a copy on DVD R. Ioffer is another great source for obscure titles. Good luck.

The Arch Angels????
13 August 2007
The most gnawing thing about this movie is the incredible rock band that plays for the inmates, yet they seem to have never existed beyond the movie. When trying to track the band members, one only gets dead ends, yet they sound like a fusion of the old Journey with a little r& b thrown in. Lounge act they are not, and had to have worked at getting this gig together for the movie. Maybe when this DVD comes out, we will finally get the lowdown on who they were, and if they ever did produce an album. This isn't a spoiler, it's a teaser. There is a wealth of character actor talent here that is both campy and serious in dialog. Linda Haynes is the perfect victim who doesn't give up until the very end, which is quite interesting and ties into the beginning in a bizarre way.

Grade "Z", as in Zemen?
27 December 2005
All of the people reviewing this film, and probably many professional film reviewers, just don't get it. This film was made with matting sequences and art techniques quite like the works of the great Czech filmmaker, Karel Zeman. If you want to know what I'm talking about, I suggest you get any of Zeman's films, such as The Fabulous World of Jules Verne, Baron Munchausen, Journey to the Beginning of Time, or On The Comet. If you are unable to locate a film, then read the reviews in AMG. They will explain the processes used. If one were to look at Zeman's work and try to compare it to any of the other sci/fi fantasy films of the time, viewers probably wouldn't have gotten it then either. It is unfair to compare either of these filmmakers' styles to the standard technologies of the day, because both Zemen and Hines "do not compute". They have a style that is unique to them and should be judged for their creativity only. If you look at this film from a perspective where you KNOW that he intentionally tried to create a pastiche collage of mattes mixed with live action, you could easily come to the conclusion that he did a masterful job. It isn't easy making a bunch of computer cutouts flow. I thought that the creatures were also quite good, also considering how they were made. Hines took a great gamble, and I think his film will not be fairly judged for years to come. Someone promoting the film should have tipped the audience off as to what they would be seeing, rather than let them blindly go into the theater expecting the usual CG work. Regarding the actors, I think Hines also took a page from Zemen's book, in that many of Zemen's actors were somewhat expressionless at first, but became much more engaging as the film and action went on. It is totally refreshing to me to have this movie in my library. I will watch it for years to come, all three great hours of it.
