The Stand (2020)
Is it a masterpiece? No. - Is it junk? Definately not.
I understand there are alot of people looking for a letter to letter true to the book kind of series. But that is not how TV works.
Sometimes you need to adapt and sometimes you need to erase whole chapters and add new stuff.
Would i enjoy it more if it were more to the book, yes. But it is not junk.
I am entertained and am looking forward to the next available episodes.
7/10 with room for improvement.
The New Mutants (2020)
Movie suffers from the first 15 minutes.
As title says. The first 15 minutes of this movie makes what should be a solid movie suffer.
The acting seems off, but i believe it is from editing, i get the feeling that big chunks are edited out which makes the scenes incincistent.
After the initial 15 minutes, the movie picks up, it is a better flow with dialogue, it makes more sence.
A portion in the middle is also off, probably again due to editing.
The ending i believe is a reshoot due to disneyfication.
I can see what the movie could have been, a solid 8 from me.
But poor editing brings it down to a 6.
The Last Kingdom (2015)
Seen season 1 and 2, halfway through season 3.
Season 1 was really good, very nice buildups good pacing of the story.
Season2 i believe is better than season 1, a bit better interactions between the main characters and way better pacing. Fightscenes improved.
The one thing that brings me down from a 10 is the a bit nera the end of season 2.
Spoiler.
Clapa should have been given a more heroic last fight, he earned it, but it was quite bad imo. Those poor 7 seconds of being chopped down could have been atleast 20 seconds of berzerkermode, as that was what he was portraying.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019)
Dont get it.
I'll make this short.
The puppets are nice, but i get no connection with them. The storyline in the first two episodes doesnt really add upp.
I can see why many like it, but its not for me.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Middle of the road. Edited.
I need to edit this after ive seen it again.
Some movies grow after a second viewing. You discover things that makes you like it more.
This does the opposite.
1. The plot-twist is cringeworthy at the level you get as a 5yo when people kiss on screen. You just want to hide behind a pillow.
2. The dialoge is as if the director has put up boards with the lines on them. God awful.
3. She is supposed to be the most powerful hero in MCU.
No. Powerful, but at a Iron Man-level, but not at Scarlet Witch-level.
She is infused by the resedue from a fraction of the tesseract. The tesseract no longer exists. Thanos has the actual stones and can still wield them, just not all at once.
I shouldn't have seen it twice and for the love of whatever god you believe in, dont see it twice aswell.
************************
It's a decent movie.
I wont see it twice, but for references towards Endgame it was worth the money.
It does have a preachery tone over it, and i dont see much of a real struggle within the character. But Brie plays it as she was directed to play it. Wont win an oscar, but neither a Razzie.
The real issue i have with it is the plot. It's rushed. The pacing is not good.
The 90's is shown in a nostalgic way, but not that realistic. But i was an adult in the 90's and the music wasnt that good. And the selection of songs reflect that. Only playing tose you still hear on the radio today, but the big hits that never came out of the 90's, are not here.
All in all.
CGI. 9/10
Acting. 7/10
Fightscenes. 8/10
Plot. 4/10
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
I paid to see it.
Yeah. You now what i mean.
I saw it, then i paid to see it.
And i am going again to see it once more.
There are loads of stuff going on in the background you don't notice the first time.
Don't bother reading lower scores than 8's. Those ppl are schmucks.
Go see it. I need the sequel.
The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018)
Without Stieg Larsson, its just a copycat.
For you who doesnt know, this is not a part of the Millenium series.
Sadly, Stieg Larsson passed away before finishing the fourth book. Even more sad, his brother and father inherited the copyright instead of his life partner, because there was no written will. A brother and father Stieg wanted nothing to do with.
And they hired a writer to finish the fourth book, to cash in on Stiegs work.
And with Stieg gone, the soul is gone aswell. And it shows in the book, and it reflects in the film.
Now, the acting is not bad. They make the best of what it is. But it is not a good book, and the material translates into a predictable and boring movie.
I wish they had made adaptations of book two and three instead of the bad copy that is called the fourth book.
Bering Sea Gold (2012)
Rednecks diving for gold, can it be more epic?
I have followed a few of these reality-shows the last couple of years, and this show i have to rate No3 after Pawn Stars and Auction Hunters.
It has drama, stupidity, odd fellows and fellas, fun dialog and GOLD. I'd say it is way better then Gold Rush Alaska, but i guess that is a matter of taste.
Only thing i can object too is the difference in materials they use for getting the gold up, i mean, how can the others compete against a Land-based mining-facility converted to be on the sea?
I hope that they keep the "psycopath" another season, makes it more interesting as long as he doesn't get into another fistfight.
