Die Hard (1988)

"Now I have a machine gun, HO, HO, HO"
22 August 2013
If you know that famous quote then you know what film I am talking about. Yes I know I didn't use that Yippie-Kay-ya line because its already been used too many times in other reviews. But anyway onto the film, We are talking about that amazing John Mctiernan movie Die Hard. Die Hard is basically about terrorists take over Yakitomi plaza and John McClain has to stop them. Now that sounds simple right? Well looks can be deceiving as there are many twists and turns and it all takes place in this plaza and in a few other places as well. Bruce Willis as John McClain is such a bad-ass in this movie and is easily one of the best action characters ever written. He's funny, vulgar, and overall a real character that you care for. But how can I forget one of the best villains ever in movie history: Hans Gruber. Alan Rickman plays this absolutely entertaining as hell villain and he is very different from other villains as he is very unpredictable and changes his plans when things go wrong and being calm and collect about it. His plans are absolutely deviously clever in this film. I wont go into much detail as it will spoil the movie. Alan Rickman is just so entertaining when hes on screen. Also, the secondary characters were great as well in their roles. Not to mention the cinematography is fantastic and John Mctiernan gets some awesome shots and crazy camera angles that make the film more tension-built and suspenseful but entertaining as well. Overall, this is one of the best action movies ever made by far because of the tension and entertainment value than any other action film. *In Alan Rickman voice* Now go see this movie! Now, now, now!!!

Full Metal Jacket= LEE ERMY!!!!!!!!
7 March 2012
Full Metal Jacket is honestly Kubrick's best film since 2001: A Space Odyssey. Now, I am very new to Kubrick's work and have never gotten the style (same to Quenten Tarentino). When directors have very distinct styles, its either very compelling to watch or fall apart into disaster. But, thank god Kubrick is not the latter since his style was very creative and innovative and just unique. But, enough of the director how about the movie itself? All I have to say is one word: LEE ERMY!!! Lee Ermy simply played the perfect drill instructor I have ever seen in a movie!! He had the perfect dialouge in this movie and heres the thing: HE IMPROVED ALL HIS LINES!!! Now, if thats not perfect acting. I don't know what is! But, the rest of the cast are fantastic with Pvt. Pyle as a fat blob turned into a psychopath later in the film. In fact, in the first half Pvt. Pyle is focused on more than anybody! Actually, its pretty much the entire part of boot camp thats focused on! This movie depicts boot camp perfectly as privates are given inspections, they run through basic training to become stone cold killers. Im sure many Marines will feel at home when they see this movie. This film had pretty much the greatest dialogue I have ever heard in a war movie! Especially from Sgt. Hartman!!! I could remember all the sinister but true quotes he says!!! "Pvt. Pyle, Why is your foot locker unlocked?!" The best part of this movie is that its not your ordinary movie since it pretty much has dark humor all over the place! Now, some people say that the first part starts with a bang while the second part starts to fizzle out. I don't think it killed the movie as I think the second part was as good as the first since it delved into the war. This movie doesn't really have much of a story rather it is conceptual than story-driven. It talks about the de-humanizing effects of war. How humans change from innocent citizens to loyal mean machine killers in the military. "It was mostly propaganda!" many people say. I would kinda have to agree on that statement since it does have some anti-war messages in it but the best thing is it is never held in front of your face. It merely implies anti-war scene after scene. Now, the cinematography. WOW! Kubrick has some sense of style when it comes to setting the mood. The color palette he uses to depict a war zone is genius! So do yourself a favor and go see Kubrick's masterpiece maggot!!! P.S. LEE ERMY IS AWESOME!!!!!

Yay a way sequels are supposed to be made!!!
16 February 2012
Ah Back to the Future. What a timeless classic that film was back in the 80's. It broke new grounds in time travel as a sub-genre in sci-fi movies of the 80's. But how about we experience it again? Sounded great and ludicrous at the same time. The original ended on a cliff-hanger and fans were expecting another Zemeckis masterpiece! Did they get it? ABSOLUTELY!!! I will go far as to say its even better than the original! How did it manage to do that? Well it utilizes the time-travel concept in the story very well and it tied together perfectly. Great job Zemeckis for that phenomenal directing! When people first saw it they thought it was gonna be an impossible feat for the film to match and to exceed the original! But it did! Enough of the history lets get down to brass tax! Back to the Future Part II is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Back to the Future. Doc takes Marty and Jennifer(Elizabeth Shue) to 2015 to save their son's future! Meanwhile, in 2015, Marty decides to get a hold of a sports almanac and use time travel as a means of making money. Hmm... a wanna-be billionaire? Isn't that what we wanna be now-a-days? Anyway, Biff gets a hold of the almanac and goes back to 1955 and all hell breaks loose in the time lines. What makes this work is that every scene is cohesively done well and is perfectly paced! Michael J. Fox gives a great performance as Marty as always from Fox. Doc Brown is still fantastic as the mad scientist Doc Brown and my favorite character Biff is just as mean and hilarious as ever! Biff is absolutely freaking hilarious in this movie and has the most funniest quotes I have ever heard in movie history! "Hey butt head!" "Why don't you make like a tree and get out of here!" OH SO FUNNY XDXDXD Now what did I appreciate in this movie? I love the fact that every scene flows well in this series of events happening in different time periods. I loved the way they fit Old Mcfly with Young Mcfly in the future! Great filmmaking at its finest! I loved all the characters(mainly Biff). Lasy but not least I love the performances and memorable quotes in this movie! It has a certain charm to me that causes to like it every time I watch it! Plus, the special effects were fantastic and the costumes and set work were really good in depicting the future and the past! However, one minor thing that went under my skin was when they repeated the quote "Chicken" all the time. But, its not something that breaks the movie it just was a little annoying. But all in all it is a fantastic sequel to already an incredible movie and exceeds the original ten-fold! So get your Delorean to 88 mph and get ready for another awesome ride!!!

Welcome to the writing for future teenage generations that is John Hughes!
14 February 2012
John Hughes was truly a magnificent writer for teenagers of the 80's. Even though a lot of people hated his previous works, it doesn't matter since many people have flaws in their career once in a while. Well, this is one of John Hughes's well-written classics: The Breakfast Club. It follows a group of teenage kids who have done something to get them to have detention on Saturday!(Bummer having to stay in that school on a weekend!) Sounds pretty simple huh? Well, later on the characters get to know each other thanks to the brilliant writing from John Hughes! Judd Nelson plays Bender who in the movie is called "the Criminal" and is a straight up asshole but in a cool way. The lovely Molly Ringwald plays Claire who attempts to hide things from people kinda like bottling her emotions. Plus there are other characters I wont get into. My favorite character is obviously Bender since he throws out the jokes which makes this movie funny. Now, be warned! You may start tearing up because there are a lot of issues covered in this movie that relates to real life. The stories the characters tell are very poignant and moving and riveting. So don't be surprised if you start crying during the movie. This is a brilliant John Hughes movie that launched his career next to Sixteen Candles(which is another good Hughes film). What makes this movie so great you say? The way the characters develop is genius thanks to the magnificent directing! The jokes are CLEVER unlike so many other comedies *cough Meet the Spartans*. However, while this movie is great it does have some flaws. One is its a little too long for my taste and its tone is a little mixed up at times. Like is this supposed to be a comedy or a drama? But thats a minor thing for me since I can relate to this movie as a teenager next to Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Plus, there are so many memorable quotes in this movie! Go see John Hughes's finest written film! Sincerely Yours, The Breakfast Club

Inception (2010)
9/10
Nolan's finest masterpiece!!!
13 February 2012
Inception is simply put an incredible film with so many good things going for it. This movie is basically set in this futuristic world(no one knows the time period) where there is this new technology where a subject is able to enter another subject's dreams through inception. It is a BRILLIANT concept for a movie and Nolan does a fantastic job with that concept through the direction and the script. WOW DOES NOLAN HAVE EXCELLENT WRITING! I have never seen a movie like this in a while! Now many critics are bashing this movie saying "Oh. ITS TOO CONFUSING!" "There is barely any character development" BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! Seriously? OK sure there is barely any character development in the supporting cast but there is a lot of development in Cobb with his relationship with Mal. I will not go in any detail with this plot since you will not understand. Even till this day, I still don't understand what makes it such a good movie maybe because you catch these wonderfully-thought ideas that Nolan created! Now, lets move on to the cast. The cast in this couldn't have been more perfect! Leonardo Dicaprio plays Cobb who is one of the best extractors in the world but there is a reason he has to do this though. I will not reveal how until you see this film. Anyway, Ellen Page plays Ariadne who is the architect of Cobb's extraction team. Then there's a plethora of fine talent: Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy and CILLIAN MURPHY! Now, can we just say that this is an amazing cast or what? Plus, the visuals are absolutely stunning! But other than that, this movie will boggle your mind and will leave you scratching your head so please do Nolan a favor and go see his masterpiece!

No wonder its #1 on IMDb!!! AMAZING MOVIE!!!
10 February 2012
Honestly, I have never heard of a movie that was so captivating and powerful to watch. The Shawshank Redemption stars Tim Robbins as a baker who is accused in murdering his wife but denies it. Morgan Freeman plays a man who has been in the Shawshank prison for many years and has given up on hope and is fighting to get out of prison by the parole hearings in the movie. Lastly, you have Bob Gunton from Ace Ventura When Nature Calls playing a warren that you would think to trust but is actually the opposite. I wont go further into describing the movie because it is very difficult to explain the whole premise and the characters. What I can say is that the plot is brilliantly paced and full of twists and turns and will keep you on the edge of your seat. I really appreciated the tone of this film having a grim, dark bleak side of Shawshank prison and the light uplifting colors outside of the prison. But, enough of the cinematography how was the acting? Without a doubt, the acting in this film was absolutely wonderful! Morgan Freeman does his voice-overs with a very poetic edge and makes the narration very entertaining. I really love Morgan Freeman's voice-overs since it shows his fantastic acting. Tim Robbins is very likable as a guy feeling that he has been framed and is dying to escape the prison. But, whats different from The Great Escape ,which is another prison escape movie, is that you don't know how he is going to escape. The way he does is absolute sheer genius! All the characters are very likable including the best supporting character in this movie that everyone can feel sympathy for. Brookes is an very complex character that I felt attached to when he left prison on parole. But, I wont spoil the rest of the movie because you must go see it for yourself! You will not be disappointed! This is one of Frank Durabont's masterpieces that would have never happened without the genius writer STEPHEN KING!!!

P.S. This movie has one of the if not the best ending I have ever seen since it touches your heart!

Great Scott!!! :)
2 February 2012
Back to the Future is one of the time travel movies that does things right. The story of the film is basically Marty Mcfly(played by Michael J.Fox) is living in 1985 and his friend Doc Brown(played by Christopher Lloyd) ,who is a mad scientist shows off his new invention: the time machine. Something crazy happens that causes Marty to go back to 1955 in Doc's time machine and is stuck in 1955, and to make matters worse, the time machine is broken! On top of that, he stupidly alters his future and prevents HIS OWN BIRTH! Crazy huh? But, its up to Marty and Doc(played by Christopher Lloyd) to not only get Marty back to his present time, but to also fix the wrongs he has caused to his future! I will not spoil this movie because you must go see this magnificent piece of film-making! The performances in this movie were all fantastic! Especially the best villain in that movie: Biff. He is a mean bully that picks on everyone and has the most hilarious lines in this movie!"Well look at what we have here." Robert Zemeckis did a superb job in establishing the characters and the plot-line.Not to mention, its a blend of other genres besides time-travel. There is romance, high school, sci-fi and action all in one movie!WOW! Hoow did they manage to do that you may ask? Well, it just works because the script cleverly sets the movie up. Plus, the story runs very smoothly during transitions of scenes. Usually, when time travel is involved as a premise to a story, it would fall completely apart. But, thankfully they didn't do that! The story is actually not as complicated as people think. But, it does make your head spin of all the things going on in the movie! Its very consistent on switching to those scenes. Plus, the special effects were jaw-dropping back in the 80's but today it kind of looks outdated. However, this film has a charm that makes this film a spectacle in the time-travel genre. Now, what I liked about this film was the way the story was presented and the hilarious interactions between the characters:"Oh what are you looking at butt head?" Oh and the special effects! "If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 mph, you're gonna see some serious s**t!" See I'm already quoting the movie, thats how good it is! That line always makes me think of BTF so much! But anyway, there is really nothing wrong with this film. Now, its not my favorite of the series.(OMG HOW DARE HE! HOW DARE HE SAY BTF IS NOT HIS FAVORITE!!!! TROLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLOLLOL) Yes, it is not my favorite IN MY OPINION! However, this is a fantastic piece of work from Robert Zemeckis! As Doc Brown says:"If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything." I have lived with that quote in my head in my entire life to never give up on what you fight for! Overall, I think this is a fantastic film in the time-travel genre and deserves to be on the IMDb Top 250 List! "So, why don't you make like a tree, and get out of here!"
