The World Comedy Tour: Melbourne 2003 (2003)
World Comedy Unplugged 2003
From Wil Anderson's antics about waking up early ("I've never woken up at six am to see the best part of the day... say, Avril Lagvine beaten to death, using only Christina Aguliera!") to Greg Fleet's story about LSD ("If we don't start walking. We will die."), this is a great thing to rent or buy to laugh at when you're feeling a little bit down. A marvelous bunch of comedians which included Sabrina Matthews, Tom Gleeson, Judith Lucy, Ahn Do and a flock of others, you'll laugh till your sides split! "I do breakfast radio so I get up really early. I get up at quarter to four in the morning, which isn't even morning. It's the middle of last night! So I'm on holidays and all I want to do is sleep in. I was at my mothers, my mother (who's meant to love me!) comes in at six am, and started shaking me saying 'Wake up! Wake up! You're missing the best part of the day!' only to be told: 'P*SS OFF! P*ss off or you'll be missing the best part of your face!' I'm sorry. Six am is not the best part of the day. I have never woken up at six am to see the best part of the day, say, Arvil Lagvine being beaten to death, using only Christina Aguleira! What is with Christina anyway? She's Dirrrty! 'I'm so Dirrrty!' The mayor of Skanky Ho Town!" ~ Wil Anderson.
Cirque du Soleil: Quidam (1999)
Spectacularly Spectacular!
If there is one video without much talking in it that I love, it is Quidam, presented by the fabulous artistes of Cirque Du Soleil.
The story of Quidam (pronounced Key-Dam), follows a little girl named Zoe, who is bored and trying to get the attention of her mother and father. When all of a sudden, Quidam, a man who holds an umbrella and a bowler hat but has no head, comes through the door and drops his hat. Zoe picks it up and runs after him, but he doesn't see her (not surprising...) and walks out again. Zoe puts on the hat and all of a sudden, her dull, boring world is transformed into one of colour and vibrance! Her mother and father are lifted into the air and John, a man in a purple suit, and Fritz, a creature with wild red hair join her in her journey around this colourful day dream.
Throughout the entire show, John will come back and entertain the audience, whether by throwing darts at a target that is strapped to his head, making a metal hula hoop into a halo or juggling three red balls and a hat rack. Be sure to look for this extremely funny guy!
With performances by people such as Chris Lashua (the German Wheel), Isabelle Chasse (Arial Contortion on Silk), Wu Di, Siqi Yuan, Xin Zhao and Xue Zhao (Diablos), Rene Bibaud (skipping ropes), Olga Pikhienko (handbalancing), Philippe Azoulay, Alain Cattonne and Guy Pannequin (Clowns), The Spanish Webs, Statues, Fatima Hedman (Cloud Swing) and the Banquine troupe, you'll think your eyes are playing tricks on you.
With any luck, you'll get your hands on this video or DVD, I know I will be quite soon.
Cinderella (1997)
An Absolute Classic
I recieved the film from my friend on my 12th birthday. I had always loved musicals and we watched it straight away. Sure enough, within a week, I was singing along with Brandy, Whitney and everyone else in the movie to the fabulous songs. I don't mind saying I had the hots for Prince Christopher ;)
With wonderful musical numbers like 'In My Own Little Corner', 'Impossible', 'Ten Minutes Ago' and 'The Prince is Giving A Ball!' it captured my heart in a dance and watched it every day (well almost) for four years until the tape wore out. I was so disappointed when this happened so I went out on a quest to find another copy of either the DVD (if there was one) or the video. Imagine my indignation when all the stores I went to (and am still going to!) had never heard of it! It is soooooo annoying!
But it was a wonderful film for all children and adults alike. It made me realise nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself and give it a go.
Also watch it if you want to see Jason Alexander get shut down about his... hair.
Stepmother (Bernedette Peters): There's no need to be coy. Look at you! That manly physique. Those handsome chiseled features. That wonderful full head... of skin! Lionel (Jason Alexander): No touching please.
