Mat biec (2019)
A cultural gem from a time not yet gone
This is film-making at its absolute finest. Technically superb, nuanced, divine casting, colour, light, humour. It enthralled me. If you are tired of Hollywood's wndless 'kill conquer rinse repeat' format, watch this film with people you love.
Submergence (2017)
Incoherent, ADHD
With incredible acting talent and beautiful cinematography, a potential classic eventually presents as a shocking disjointed puzzle that even the director's mother would disavow. What happened? I guess it proves that fund raising for film (pre Covid) trumps ensemble talent: The editing is a plane crash from the start to the end. The director should have expected a lot more. Thanks for trying.
Red Riding Hood (2011)
Case study in what not to do
So much talent, so much effort. So disappointing. The title. Expectations of a modern retake on a classic fairytale. False expectations from the get go. Its a fusion product fuelled by the marketing department. A lame attempt to ride the werewolf craze in catch up with the vampire (romance) craze.
I have to acknowledge the first rate acting. The cinemAtography. The technocal side of this movie is first class.
This isn't an inquest. (It could be). Its a requiem. I am sure this killed reputations and careers in the production ranks.
The plot was Byzantine, obscure even infantile.
I am sure that 'Red Riding Hood II' (a fusion production with Fast and Furious and Riddick) will press all my buttons.
In the meantime, we have Margaux.
Ad Astra (2019)
Nothing New Here
Take this as evidence that Hollywood is a spent force. Cliche. Rehash. Rinse, wash, repeat. Stanley Kubrick, I miss you. A hollow shell is all that remains.
White Gold (2017)
Prime Minister Material
Quirky, fast paced comedy reminds me of the light hearted programs of the 70s and 80s before we all learnt to adhere to the mandated and correct cultural norm.
The characters bust my chops. They remind me so much of people that I have worked with/for over the years.
The marital dynamic also resonates. My dream wive!
Vincent is Prime Minister material (not of the modern style, thank atom.
Supergirl (2015)
Season 3 - A Cliff Dropper
Bog fan of the first two seasons of Supergirl but season 3 seems infatuated with gender politics. My daughter asked me what has happened and
I had to say that the writers have run out of ideas. (Are they writers or "drum beaters"?) Gotham does much better.
