Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023)
Appalling. Amateur. Awful.
The sets, locations and costumes are good.
The script is terrible.
The acting is wooden. Hugh Grant doing an impersonation of Michael Caine.
Directed by Guy Ritchie? He must have been asleep.
The film had so much promise and massively underdelivered.
This film could have worked with better casting and a script rewrite.
Just shows how bad films can be made.
It's like a poor pastiche of a 70s film. An economy James Bond. The sexism is yuk.
Really needs a surprise, but there's none.
Straight to DVD must be straight to streamer.
If you have 2 hours to waste on a film this is for you else don't bother.
The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Surprisingly special
His episode was complete art and wonderful. Reading some of the structured comments of the low scoring reviews does actually make me wonder why at this moment in time this episode is the lowest rated out of the series. It's a shame that best review platform has become something to express racism or homophobia. Some people don't want to be educated about human beings who have a relationship.
Of course most people who watched this episode well especially after seeing some of the competitive series like walking dead will see a completely surprising storyline and a backstory to one of the characters from the original storyline in the video game. The detail put into this episode regardless of your sexual persuasion creates a believable situation. The apocalyptic future obviously created by the people that are reviewing this of the low score. Hopefully they will be the ones that become the clickers!!!!!!
Hating Peter Tatchell (2021)
A must see film
What a great film.
To see what drives a man to effectively dedicate himself to fighting the injustice against LGBT people unfold has been wonderful. So much has changed and this film slickly replays and captures, at pace - not a dull moment, the story of the World's no1 protester of our time for LGBT rights. Seeing the old news clips, the way the film is constructed with music underpinning parts of the narrative in a mischievous way. To see Jimmy Somerville, Peter Tatchell and Sir Ian McKellen interviewing Peter and in news clips. This could have been an eight-hour film with the topics touched upon - the film-maker has at pace moved through the headlines and combined that with personal backstory interviews a footage to build a more rounded picture of a man many fear and many more others adore. Things in many ways have got better for LGBT folks in many Countries, with more work still to do. If Emily and Sylvia Pankhurst could only have had a film made about their work like this? We live in a fairer society with thanks to their influence. The film really does pay a tribute to a lifetime of work by a human rights activist and captures this for all time for future generations to understand. Love him or loathe him - the film is a solid watch to see.
Dating Amber (2020)
Perfect viewing a classic feel good
Plot and story so well written and true to life.
If you like beautiful thing, Pride you'll love this film.
Lots of laughs
Suspiria (2018)
So dull
I almost cried. Achingly boring. When the sixth act started I felt I could leave soon the relief.
So dull. The film drags like watching paint dry. Not even with Tilda Swinton did it work.
Call me by your name was such a masterpiece and this film a total rubbish piece of storytelling. The acting is great, music great, cinematography great. The storyline the ways it's been told. Just terrible.
One of the most painful films I've ever seen. I've seen a few.
Straight to streaming for this one!! It's not even crap enough to be cult.
Papi Chulo (2018)
Adorable film
This film is beautiful in so many ways.
Well acted and shows what happens when you lose a partner and how crazy you can become.
When he meets and has a friendship with the migrant worker it's so real. He doesn't want a Grindr hook up he wants a hug. A human that cares for him.
What I like about this film also is it's not all about being gay. The gay thing is just a trait. The friendship relationship with the married man is sweet and believable.
Some good laughs . A great film. Original.
Wonderful. Couldn't better it. Hence a ten.
The Front Runner (2018)
Strong acting
Show how when you hide something and get found out you have to leave office. The film really takes you back to an era when the World was controlled by the press and there was big money in it.
Donald Trump plays his cards in a different way. Amazing when you see this film. Times have changed. I saw Farenheit 11 9 and it's breathtakingly different to contrast the two films.
Sauvage (2018)
Haunting film
Really believable characters and behaviour.
The way men connect abuse and live each other is beautifully explored within this film. Beautiful acting and shocking at times.
The smell and energy almost wafts from the screen.
The ending which if course I can't discuss here has left us with a huge debate about why and what and alternative endings.
This film is different from what I've seen before. Takes me into a World I've visited and left. Will tell a story some will know well and others not at all.
It's a violent beautiful erotic film.
Haunting and quite special.
Fahrenheit 11/9 (2018)
Thrilling gripping and the reality of the World
Why did Gwen Stefani help make President Trump? These questions and more or Moore get answered in this, yet again brilliant documentary.
Trump is a key figure in the film but the film has hope and it anything is a call to arms to get out there and vote.
Like Brexit ... So many people didn't vote and are now stuck in a changing World for them that doesn't work. The film examines why people don't want to vote. Why?
I'm not going to give any spoilers. So can't say here.
Whatever your political persuasion if you live in the Western World will give you food for thought. You'll also have lively debate afterwards.
Brilliant film with some lesser known but influential facts less of the alternative kind.
😂
Colette (2018)
Stunning. A work of art. Perfect acting
The characters and the way they develop is believable. I can see that the Bible bashers are going to bash this film. It's not for them. It shows an open relationship and how every nuance and detail is shared and how they relate. The acting is spot on. The story is an untold story in cinema for the period drama. It's a beautiful film for the two of us that saw it and not the usual subject matter that would engage us. Not a dull moment and perfectly told. Outstanding film and a classic in my book. Expect a classic film it will deliver.
