Tenet (2020)
Overcomplicated to disguise pure nonsence
Tell me, if everything is going backwards, should't they speak out the words and sentences the same way - backwards? But no, they speak normal laguage.
And if you think about logics and details, it's the same - it's only flaws in there.
Acting is okay, though, and visuals are great. But if you are looking for sense, it is not the case.
Proximity (2020)
Amazing... rubbish
Yes, it is about aliens, but some kind of very religious ones which are looking for Jesus. (This fact alone is aready self-explaning why the film was rubbish.)
They came on Earth for that reason, but instead they found a strange lunatic boy and a couple of his friends, and one of them indeed was looking like Jesus, but it wasn't him, unfortunately.
The rest of the plot was even worse. A small motor plane which was able to fly non-stop from Costa Rica to British Columbia without any re-fuel. Some robots which really looked like normal people in costumes, wearing strange gadgets on their faces and trying to act like robots, but still visibly breathing and walking totally like humans... A secret military organisation standing behind NASA with an (obviously) big budget, but still being completely unable to track mere civilians of interest. An easy escape of those civilians from the secret underground military base, where after just shutting the door and small hike further into the forest and entering a local village, they managed to disappear from the professional chase. And so on, and so on...
Amulet (2020)
Slow paced, but not boring at all
Actually, it is a nice and quite original movie, but - unfortunately - quite slow paced. I would cut away about 15% of screen time from the play. Or may be I would have substituted it with more action. But definitely, the story has something in it. It is like some sort of a puzzle, so, if that was the intention to show it like this, it had worked for sure.
The Old Guard (2020)
Do not bother
Very weak acting, boring plot... The visuals are okay, but the rest is is just terrible. Nothing to see here, really.
The Irishman (2019)
Casino with drawbacks
Well, the first scene with the long camera roll already reminded Scorcese's Casino, and it was hard to get rid of that feeling through the entire movie (lasting for 3,5 hs). Especially, when De Niro and Pesci had very similar (to Casino) characters and acted like those, almost identically. Except they look much older this time. But... great acting nevertheless. Brilliant acting from Mr. Pacino, too. The movie is quite entertaining. The ending is a bit mashed, though.
Ad Astra (2019)
Boring to the stars
A space exploration expedition leaves the solar system to search for extraterrestrial life and gets lost... Would be good just to start from this sentence, and one can already foretaste the stories already shown (like Event Horizon movie, for instance). But there is nothing like this. Instead, we get a 90% screen time of Brad Pitt's face, which mostly even does not have any sign of commitment for acting. The personal tragedy of the main character does not invoke any pity. There is a moment there, where (attention!) some crazy space ape killed a crew member... and guess what the main character did just a couple of minutes after this had happened. He was overthinking his relationships with his ex-partners and realized that he was not ready for any relationship. He doesn't give a heck about a space monkey and why this all happened, he even did not investigate the case and obviously feels nothing regarding the homicide in his spaceship. Isn't it ridiculous? In general, this movie is not a SciFi, it is extremely boring and is just a waste of time.
Stag Night (2008)
Entertaining
Well... Actually I hate thrillers, but this one has something positive still. This movie has a good script, at least 1/2 of it, I tell you that, and everything looks pretty realistic. The actors play well, one can definitely feel both tension and despair. The beginning is an everyday story, so it makes you think it could have happened to anyone. This is a nice thing I love about films: an everyday, ordinary story with ordinary people and ordinary details. Afterwards it gets more complicated. Maybe now It is time I turn to more critics. Generally, I was expecting something more terrifying than just derelicts. Some mutants, maybe, or vampires. But no matter, no matter. Now the story turns to a less realistic one anyway: thousands of people disappear every year just because of three aggressive homeless persons and a kid? Really? Concerning the main characters - towards the end they begin to act in a less reasonable way as the story fades. I mean, couldn't they just fight more or less when they were in higher numbers and not to wait until the enemy eliminates them all one by one? This is just one question, and I am sure, there are more... That is all about the story so far. Music: was it there? I think, not. Camera: good work, cameraman, no problem there. Decorations: poor, but OK. Effects: that decapitation was a piece of cake! Unfortunately, this was the only effect worth of mentioning. Conclusion: The film is entertaining, but not more. Not for high expectations.
