Can't stop watching this masterwork
12 January 2024
One of the best series I've ever watched. I'm now watching the whole series again and I can't believe it's just as good the second time. If you love the Coen brothers and Wes Anderson, you are going to really love this. The story is quirky, unique, brooding, melancholy, and always incredibly fascinating. The characters are deep and the story is extremely original. A spy story that keeps you on your toes and is really about the authentic relationships that occur, peoples different struggles and quirks that everyone has, and working through hard times getting from A to B while being loyal to those you love. All of the many relationships really draw you in. The filmmaking and editing and pacing is perfection. The scenes are magical and framed so uniquely & creatively. They always keep you engaged, on your toes, surprised, delighted, and always wanting more. I can't say enough about the acting. Every actor is very believable, emersed in their role, and inspiring. I honestly don't know how they possibly pulled this amazing cast together and then pulled magic out of every scene. What a remarkable achievement. The dialogue is a ten out of ten as well. Such unique pacing and over the top good writing. The music is also tremendous. I never skip through the open because the song is so darn catchy. The only negative is that there are only two seasons of magic. The idiots from Amazon prime didn't go past two seasons which is crazy. They should pull this cast together again and do more. Wish they had 6+ seasons. Truly a Masterwork.

Napoleon (2023)
9/10
Rare grandiose epic
13 December 2023
This deserves to be seen on the biggest screen you can find. It is now so rare that such an awesome epic film is made. See it in the theatre before it is too late. Great acting. Massive story. Fantastic music. The visuals are tremendous. Great film. I'm now going to read the biography of Napoleon because this film got me interested. The only reason I didn't give it the full 10 stars, is because I was not overwhelmed with emotion at any point in the movie. You gotta have that for a 10. Very interesting insights into his relationship with Josephine (if true). I really wish they would make more epics of this scale that demand the big screen. Wonderful achievement.

Footnote: I just read many of the negative reviews to see where they were coming from. Honesty, they all have a point, but I think they overreacted with their low ratings because their expectations were so high. First off there is the crowd that was expecting the emotion and high drama action of a Gladiator. That is not the style of this film. Just a different style. Then there was the crowd that thought there was not enough explanation of what was going on. They have a point, but I could follow along just fine. But yes, there could have been more explanation of the links between both people and events, but that would have made it longer. The last group was upset about the way Napoleon's personality was portrayed & they may have a point as well. Napoleon's personality may have been much different..... I'll have to read up on that one. Overall, even with all this, I find it a rare gem and highly recommend it.

One of the best ever
23 June 2023
This is seriously one of the best shows you will ever watch on television. It is quite remarkable. The acting is terrific. The dialogue is beyond outstanding. Yes, there is plenty of comedy, but that is not what makes it great. What makes it great is the complexity, pace, script, sets, colors, vintage feel, intertwining stories, and especially heartfelt realism combined with comedy and relatable real life. This show is a treasure and I am sad to see it come to an end. I vote for three more seasons! The only change I would make is the profanity. I will definitely keep my eyes out for anything made by this director and crew.

Rare Genius

If you love film, this is a must watch. One of the few masterpiece rated films in all ways. From artistic framing to colors to story to acting to humor to pacing to feeling to sincerity to overall message. Now I must watch every film from this incredible Director. It is actually shocking that the kids in this film could act with such believability. Each frame of the film is a delight. I would absolutely love to see a sequel & what is in store for the characters next. I was definitely left wanting more at the end. This should be rated far higher and definitely should have won more than one Oscar!

Café Society (2016)

Terrible waste of time
25 June 2020
The high point is the great music. The acting was somewhat OK, but the story was boring, uninteresting, sick, and had no redeeming qualities. For a great Woody Allen movie, watch Midnight in Paris. Cafe Society is awful.

Too long & boring
9 June 2020
The problem wasn't acting or Cinematography. The issue was a lack of editing, pacing & drama.
