Single-handedly responsible for bringing the likes of Tarantino, The Coen Bros,Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, and Robert Rodriguez to the spotlight. Next on the agenda: Roger Avary and Noah Baumbach.
The one who really invented "The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon", only the true test is doing it with completely different actors. Otherwise you're always finding a route back to the awful Kevin Bacon.

The Great Wall (2016)
Matt Damon Must've Gotten a Dumptruck Full of Money For This Garbage
Holy cow, this movie was awful. There was a movie in the 80's called Best Defense that starred Dudley Moore and Eddie Murphy. The movie was filmed with Dudley and it sucked, so the studio paid Eddie to come in after the movie was made and film scenes that could be cut into the terrible film. I believe they did the same with this. I bet Matt Damon got added after production was complete so it could be sold to westerners. There is no point in detailing what sucked, because the movie itself just sucked. This will be noticeable from the first 5 minutes of the movie, Damons beard kinda gives it away. Matt Damon is a traveler in Asia, looking for the mysterious black powder. He gets hooked up with a group of warriors who fight something that is meant to be kept quiet behind the Great Wall of China. The effects are one step up from a cartoon, the story is trite and redundant, extremely formulaic, and a waste of time to watch. I mean what is the purpose of Matt's companion (the guy from Narcos) or Willem Dafoe? It is hard to believe that so many good writers worked on this film? Too any cooks in the kitchen most likely. This movie blows.
Animals. (2016)
Not sure what this show has to do with "The Room" or "hipsters"
SUPER FUNNY! I changed my review from 8 to 10 when I saw some of the negative reviews on here. All you damn reviewers go a little off the deep end!! This show is so funny. It probably makes you feel something that you don't understand, maybe you don't quite get the humor? So then you feel stupid, then you get angry? Well I am sure the Blue Comedy Tour will be back soon. OK, apologies, enough about the ridiculous reviews. This show is awesome and I look forward to watching it every week. It does not belong on Adult Swim, it belongs right where it is on HBO, can't say "f#@k" on Adult Swim yet. It follows in the tradition of The Life and Times of Tim, or old-school animation from the 90s such as Liquid TV, Beavis and Butthead, Dr Katz. It's alternative humor with low budget animation, and that low budget animation creates a good tone for the show. The show takes human personalities, the hilarity of modern life, our culture of dating, and city life and applies it to the animals around NYC. It's funny to imagine animals with human personalities too. Not to mention all of your favorite funny-people do a voice on the show (list is too long to only mention 1 or 2). Please watch this show, I want to see it come back on next season. And to all you reviewers out there who think your intense opinion of a cartoon on HBO is wanted: Go burn some energy, ride a bike, take a walk, smell the trees and the flowers outside. Grow the f#@k up, care about something that matters, volunteer your time, and get off your damn soap box.
Clerks II (2006)
Kevin Smith Has Gone Soft
What is up with this guy? He goes around telling everyone that Jersey Girl is going to be great and that Jay and Bob are no more. Jersey Girl was more of a chick flick than most Kate Hudson movies and all I can do when it comes to Clerks 2 is sigh in disappointment. This is Kevin Smith's rendition of The Breakfast Club. It felt like Kevin Smith, Jay, Dante, and Randall were all trying to act like someone they no longer are, which brings to mind the question Why make a Clerks 2? This movie reminded me of watching Chevy Chase in Vegas Vacation. I think Kevin Smith has lost whatever he had. And poor Jay looks bored on screen. Gotta give it up to Smith for helping out his buddy in a time of need but they are too old. Imagine if Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter did a Bill and Ted's Gnarly Roadtrip? There were some funny points but it was like Smith was using his first movie as an outline and basically updating some of the jokes (poorly I might add). Clerks was one of the first films that really turned me on to movies, one of the films that turned me into the cynical movie buff that I am, but Clerks 2 only showed me that nothing ever stays the same and that everything fades away. If you liked the first film you are going to see this, regardless of what you hear, just don't go into it expecting anything new. What also bothered me about this movie was that Smith didn't create anything new, he only pulled ideas from his other movies and rehashed them. In all his other films he created something new, apparently he is so impressed with his previous work he doesn't feel the need to create anything new. For example: Nails cigarettes, Mooby, Grito/Han Solo debates, God, etc. Where was Steve-Dave by the way? Or the Berserker? I have seen all of Smith's movies probably a hundred times each, watched them with commentary 50 times, and watched the hours of deleted scenes 20 times. After J&SBSB he should have retired the whole Jersey scene like he said and gone and done Fletch with Ryan Reynolds. Now everything is ruined. I'll miss you Kevin Smith
Ronin (1998)
Why oh Why will Hollywood not make all movies as good as Ronin.
Why can't Hollywood make more movies like this? This movie has everything- amazing shootouts, realistic carchases, good plot line, great actors, amazing direction, etc, etc, etc. The only movie that has com eclose to how good this is in recent years is The Bourne Identity, but that was still not as good. Who cares what is in the briefcase? We are watching this movie from the point of view of the Ronin (De Niro, Reno, Skaarsgad). It is not important what is in the briefcase. On his commentary Frankenheimer does an excellent job of how he wants this movie to feel as though it is real and he does not want to insult the intellect of the viewer. Bravo John Frankenheimer, too bad the world will never get to witness another film as great as Ronin. Although he did some bad one's, hey we all have to pay the bills, Ronin is on my top five best movies ever made. I just have a few more comments: 1. To all those who do not see the connection between the Ronin samurai and the Ronin in this movie, don't worry. Just turn it off and go watch The Rock or The Italian Job- movies that do not expect you to think and are just fluff- action movies for the whole family if you will. 2.Please, Please, Please, Please make more movies like Ronin. Why had J.D. Zeik not been given a multiple picture deal with some studio, why has Mamet not collaborated with him more on other pictures, and why can't a movie come out like this once a year rather than once a lifetime. Anyone who wishes to discuss this movie feel free to post something yourself. Oh Gods of Hollywood movie making please give us another movie that is as good as Ronin.
