Hauntingly mesmerizing and dreamy yet nightmarish!
5 December 2019
Though, there are too many interpretations to this one - What it forced me to believe and somewhere poked a thought in me was - "What you seek is seeking you" - Somewhere, it's about a dream - A dream that's seeking you - While you're sitting back, afraid of taking that leap into the unknown - A leap of faith, a jump that's completely unpredictable and irrational - But sometimes, you take that leap and therefore you reach an unknown place with unknown challenges which bring unknown rewards to you - Just run into it blindly and keep your fingers crossed.

A Cancer Comedy Treat!
22 October 2019
A comedy about a protagonist who's suffering from cancer was the last thing I expected when I started watching this movie, without watching the trailer. But, the way it seeped inside my brain first, and then the heart, it's hard to express what I was feeling in the last act of the film. I'm sure it was hard for Lewitt's character too, yet this one won my heart and was a winner throughout. Loved Rogen and I've always loved you Anna Kendrick! It's a surprising watch as the roller coaster of emotions will keep you hooked. Thanks for making this film!

Makes you feel how much you don't know about the life your parents lived
11 June 2019
In spite of being set in times of war and how families were separated during that time. What they had to go through right from their childhood till their old age.

But the universal feeling that really teared my heart apart was how we are so fortunate to be close to our parents and their generation yet there's so little we know or rather understand about their lives.

It's a touching film about a son's journey. It was a hard journey. Was it worth it or not... That's left to us. But he had to take that journey because he promised his father.. He had to wait for his father, because his father promised him.

Perspective is the lens that makes same looks so different!
2 February 2019
When death is seen from an innocent perspective of a 17 year old, all the things we had previously known about it could be seen in a different light. That's what this film makes one feel.

Lovely film. Will watch it again.

Law of Averages!!!
7 November 2018
Damien Chazelle, you set our expectations so high with your first two films that a good film like this one feels below average. Without taking away your effort and heart into this one, whatever was your reason, this is a movie buff's request, please try and get back your rawness which made even a simple story look so complex and fresh. Full marks for effort though. Thanks for First Man. Love!

A Good Watch!!!
7 November 2018
A pretty good thriller at it's heart. Unveiling of the layers was interesting. I just had one doubt in my mind while watching this, whether they'll be able to sustain this conflict for two hours and that fear did come true. The scape of the story was too big for a story, this small. Still, by the time you start questioning this, the title credits start to roll.

A one time watch if you don't have anything more interesting to do on a Saturday night. But I expect a lot more from Tom Cruise as a producer, he has himself set the bar so high, that the story of James Barr couldn't really surpass it.

Treatment Treat!!!
30 October 2018
They say no director can save a film when the writing is weak. But, Anurag Kashyap is from a different world. Maybe, for him this saying or for that matter any saying doesn't ring true.

The film highly relies on it's treatment, which director, Anurag Kashyap is full of, when it comes to his bag of toolkit. A love story like this has been done too many times for the liking of Indian audiences. But, this time it was AK in the helm of things and the way he presents a story which sounds familiar and novel at the same time is what makes him one of the better directors in our country.

Is Manmarziyaan a perfect film? No. But is any film perfect? Ever? It's the delusion of the viewer which makes a film perfect or imperfect. You can always watch a film like this film or that film. You can always call something completely original if you've not seen enough. The god/art lies in the detail. It's not the start point and the end point that really matter, it's the journey that the filmmaker takes us through, and if it's exciting enough, that makes the difference.

Now, this one is a rugged journey as the filmmaker constantly tries to take us to the same place through different routes. Maybe, the conflict itself wasn't strong enough to hold for 156 minutes that it, at places, becomes, too redundant. Having said that, the destination does become pretty interesting. Especially, the way, the filmmaker attempted to mellow the drama in the destination so much that you feel like it's just another day in the lives of your characters, which is what maybe makes it so special. The long take treatment for the climax of the film was one of my favourite. Wish you hadn't cut the shot for that low angle 1/3rd profile, AK, I was just getting into it while I was observing them very carefully as they walk together. Gosh! This "commercial" Bollywood filmmaking makes you do things that you wouldn't want to. Still, you do it because after all you want to keep making films. The irony is that when people like it, you think it was the right way to do it and you continue doing it.

Though, your career has been made by breaking those illusions and I believe people who love your cinema love it for the very reason and not so that one day we see you becoming like others.

Anyway, Kudos to you AK, you can do this too. Hope, we see more of you and more often.

Emotionally Draining!!!
28 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Such a simple yet powerful structural element when you show the first day in the house so late in the story. Wow!!! It's these simple ideas that make storytelling so profound. You juxtapose the scene where the family leaves the mother and the house behind with the scene of their first day in the house where the father tells the mother how could we go without you... Lovely!!! Lovely!!! And yaa my box of tissues are over... Gotta buy another one before I jump to the last one...

BEST EPISODE EVER!!! PERIOD.
27 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I was right here and nobody could see me... This line of dialogue is going to haunt me for weeks if not months at least. One of the best episodes written and gosh.. One of the best episodes to be treated exactly how it was supposed to be... Uff!!! Those long takes took my breath away... Thanks a ton to the makers to make sure it's shot the way, the content deserves. I love you guys!!! This is a compliment from an aspiring filmmaker who's fighting his way to get things done in a right way, but no one would understand... This is a cry from an aspiring filmmaker who's screaming his heart out that I was right there but nobody would see me... I thank you for this massive dose of inspiration that this episode is. LOVE!!!

Repeat customers Earl! We'll stick it to them next time..
27 October 2018
This film is a Matthew McConaughey feast all the way. It's his performance that makes the story feel different. What really makes an actor great. To make a well written character look good on-screen, hell no. Art lies in detail. It's what you do with that written material. And gosh! Does McConaughey deliver.. Does with all guns blazing.. The nuances is what makes this character empathetic and it's in those nuances that you'd feel like coming back and watching this film again.. A thriller of the highest quality.. Love it!!!

ActionGasm!!!
20 October 2018
I've not seen an action film so much filled with substance in my entire life. This film surpassed my expectations in each and every department. A few continuity errors here and there, but they don't bother.

There's an inherent rhythm to an action film and this one knows how long to wait before the next action scene begins. The quality of variety is so sublime that there's something for everyone.

Mind you, there are beautiful locations in the film and they director has made sure that he shows you the same location post blood bath. The satisfaction after watching the film is so high that we forget what was it that hero really wanted.

My favourite action film, for sure.

Searching (III) (2018)

Treatment is the King!!!
18 October 2018
It's an old cliché: Content is the king. Well, searching proves that once in a while a film comes which proves that telling of a story is as important as the story itself, while sometimes it might even surpass the story.

Such is the curious case of Searching. Right from the first minute of the film, it has you hooked till the ladt frame. Hooked and how, it takes advantage of your dopamine source (all kinds of screens: mobiles, laptops, cctv, etc) and feeds on it.

If you look at the story from an objective point of view, as such, there's no novelty, yet, the way it's told, is so novel and unique that it keeps you at the edge of the seat throughout. Good films engage, great films make you wonder. Searching is a great film, one that we deserve. Thank you Aneesh for this gem.

P.S. Glad you didn't just make an 8 min short film.

Coen Brothers - Welcome to India!!
16 October 2018
Sriram Raghavan pulls a Coen Brothers in AndhaDhun here. Though, it's not new for him to do it. Considering, he directed comparatively less popular yet mind boggling films like Ek Haseena Thi and Johnny Gaddar. This one, takes the genre of neo noir, a notch higher.

Thank you Sriram Raghavan, for believing in yourself and taking a leap that Indian audience could be that smart because to make a film like this you've to give some credit to the audience's intelligence.

Why are we afraid of what we don't understand!!
15 October 2018
It's a beautiful moving show where the narrative flows on a much deeper level that at places you might find it absurd. Still it's all just in the mind, just like the show is running in the minds of the central characters of the story.

Though I want to write a lot more about it, I'll stick to the one line that this is one show in a long time that made me sob for the characters after a long time.. Go check it out.. Relatable yet different.. Contemporary yet fresh!!!
