Friday Night Lights: Keep Looking (2010)
Win for Mindy
She deserves major props for standing up for Becky!
Friday Night Lights: The Right Hand of the Father (2010)
Julie - Queen of Bad Decisions!
I get she is struggling in college, but she has made horrible decisions the entire series. She is 18, drinking at a college professor's house?! She is a complete mess and I hope she gets some redemption by the end of the series. The kicker is Tami lecturing other girls about morals and making better decisions.
I was actually hoping Julie going off to college would mean less of her in the show. At least we aren't subjected to the Julie and Matt drivel.
I really do like the show otherwise, especially Tami and Eric. Which is what makes it so hard to see Julie be such a mess.
Something Borrowed (2011)
Total Lack of All Morality
Ok, so do most movies have true morality? No. Movies are an escape from reality and the rules and morality that goes with it. But usually there is one or two good people in a movie. This movie had one, sort of, who was severely underused and cliché.
Every character was unlikable. Even John Krasinski and Steve Howie, both actors I love. Steve was his typical ditzy playboy, which he plays so well. He was funny, but completely unlikable. John Krasinski was supposed to be the voice of reason in a group of reasonless people. But he came off as whiny and unforgettable in the movie.
Onto the main 3 characters: Kate Hudson, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Colin Egglesfield. There is not one pleasant quality about any of them at all. They are all awful, selfish, horrible human beings. They are all cheaters and liars and complete backstabbers who couldn't care less about the people in their lives they are supposed to love. If I had friends like these, I wouldn't need enemies.
I get it, it is a movie. But it was not enjoyable to watch, it will not be something I will want to remember, and it would not be something I recommend to others to watch.
2 stars for at least getting to see John Krasinski and Steve Howie in something, even if I didn't like their characters.
Oblivion (2013)
Amazing from Start to Finish
Everything about this movie is perfection! To begin with, the story is fantastic. Twists and turns and a surprise ending. The characters are likeable and interesting. You root for them. You want the best outcome for them. The story is completely unique, not a rehashed storyline you have seen 4 times over.
Tom Cruise is simply enjoyable to watch when it is just him on the screen for so many scenes. Olga Kurylenko is beautiful and such a wonderful actress. She shines in every scene she is in.
The cinematography is visually stunning! Watch this movie in 4K, it is like you are there. Everything looks so real and beautiful, even on this desolate planet. It makes your heart hurt for the damage our world has sustained in this movie.
Joseph Kosinski learned a wonderful lesson from Tron. Let one artist do the whole soundtrack. M83 is a phenomenal artist. The soundtrack he created is more brilliant than what multiple artists could have ever put together. This is one of the most magnificent soundtracks of all time. It is emotional, exhilarating, moving, and so much more. I could watch the whole movie with just listening to the score.
Atlanta's Missing and Murdered: The Lost Children (2020)
Just Ask Yourself One Question: Did the Murders Stop When He Was Arrested
The answer is yes. It doesn't matter how this "documentary" spins the truth. I'm sure children were murdered after he was arrested, but not like they were while he was free. Serial killers don't just change their habits, even if someone else is convicted for their crimes. They follow patterns and have habits they don't just change overnight. So the claims that the "real" murdered just stopped leaving bodies all over Atlanta doesn't make sense.
This documentary was not good. It barely talked about the children, it barely talked about the investigation. I'm not even sure where all of the hours of the documentary were spent, even after watching all the episodes. It was very unfocused and seemed like it was all over the place. The timelines were all over the place and the things they focused on were all wrong. There were way too many people to remember who everyone was, so they should have had their name and relationship to the case on the screen every time they were on the screen.
I agree, the children did not get their day in court, the families did not get any type of resolution. I would be angry if I was a family member as well. These children lost their lives and no one was convicted for their deaths. But it is clear it was Wayne Williams who murdered the majority of them. I don't honestly believe he murdered the girls.
Do I believe the police & FBI did everything correctly? No. But that is comparing it to today's standards with today's knowledge and technology. When this was happening, serial killers were just had just started being profiled. They weren't even called serial killers until the 70s. The FBI only started the unit to investigate serial killers in 1974. There wasn't enough known about serial killers, their habits, their profiles... really anything at this time to help the investigation.
However, the murders stopped when he was arrested. To me, that is case closed.
The Office: Here Comes Treble (2012)
Boo
Pam is spending too much time with awful Nellie and turning into a shrew like her. She has always been the nicest character and she would never treat Jim that way in front of people.
I also completely despise Oscar now for being such an ahole and a cheater! Who does that to a person they've worked with for so long? Cheaters are some of the lowest people in the world. Of course Angela is a disgusting cheater too.
The Office: New Guys (2012)
Can it get any worse?
Killing turtles is funny? Really? Characters cheating all the time is funny? Especially cheating with married or engaged people? I'm just forcing myself to finish the show I once loved. Btw, I hate Nellie!
The Office: Free Family Portrait Studio (2012)
So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, adieu Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu
Some satisfaction after a whole lot of awful episodes. But it wasn't enough redemption to bring back my lost respect for the show. I had thought losing Michael would be the worst part of the show, but boy was I wrong. They got rid of one of the suck characters, but not the other. They both needed to go.
The Office: Angry Andy (2012)
Nate gets the 1 star
Thank you Nate for the laugh. Otherwise, suck suck episode! I hate Robert! I hate Nellie! Nothing about this is even remotely funny or possible in the real world! You just walk into an office and take over? I cannot even believe how bad these last episodes have been!
I was worried after Michael left, but was surprised that this season was actually funny, until Florida. Who the heck is writing this show? Did everyone who was involved before leave? What were they thinking? I can't even believe anyone thought this was a good idea! What a kick in the gut to all the fans!
The Office: Welcome Party (2012)
Boohoo
Someone broke up with you. So now we should feel sorry for you and like you? No! Nellie is horrible! How could anyone think this character is a good idea? And really?!? Let's call her Pam? That was ridiculous! It is just stupid!
The Office: Get the Girl (2012)
Really?!?
This episode is so bad it makes me want to stop watching the show completely. Why would they bring on such horrible characters? Nellie is one of the absolute worst character in tv history. And to see she is on for the remaining episodes blows my mind! It better get less about this horrible woman and more about the characters we love quickly. Robert California was a horrible enough character as it was. Why ruin the show this way?
Your Worst Nightmare: High School Revenge (2014)
Do Your Own Research
This is a very inaccurate portrayal of what happened. It didn't even talk about Jason Wilkman, the six year old boy Shiue killed in his kidnapping of Mary and Elizabeth. It didn't even disclose Shiue's sentence for this crime.
It didn't show him taking them out of the state to Chicago. This is why he was charged with federal kidnapping charges.
The way they escaped was completely. Stauffer managed to remove the hinge pin from the locked closet door to escape.
If you are going to make a true crime show, it should be accurate to the actual crime. This is the only episode of this show I have watched and it will be the last due to the compete lack of details.
Oprah Winfrey Presents: After Neverland (2019)
I believe them. Here's why...
I was originally still skeptical after watching "Leaving Neverland". It was very factual and had a lot of documentation to back up the stories, but all of the documentation was innocent until put into a negative light. Much of the description and feelings stated by the survivors would able to be obtained by reading about, watching, or talking to survivors. If these men really wanted to be convincing, it wouldn't be hard to accomplish. There are enough survivors out there to draw inspiration from.
But I was convinced after watching the Oprah special "After Neverland". This interview seemed much less practiced and much more off the cuff. What convinced me was the men's feelings about their mothers. They were both very conflicted. They both knew their mothers had also been groomed and as Wade put it, all of society had been groomed by Michael Jackson. But they both felt their mothers should have protected them and blamed them for not knowing about the abuse.
This is not a feeling that can be conveyed or obtained unless one has actually felt it. How often do survivors of child sexual abuse even address their feelings about their mothers? And even if they do, one cannot just pull those conflicted emotions and then convey them as their own.
I was raped when I was 11 and then in a mentally, physical, and sexually violent relationship from ages 14-16. I have often struggled with my feelings towards my parents for not protecting me, for not saving me, for not even knowing what was happening to me. But how could they? If they asked me anything, I lied. I lied about how I got all the bruises. I lied about where I was and who I was with. I lied to protect my abuser, because I was completely under his control and would do anything to protect him. But I also feel my parents should have seen the signs, should have intervened, should have done something to protect me. I still struggle with this dichotomy 30 years later.
That is what these two men struggle with as well. It is easy to understand and convey that one hates oneself after sexual abuse. It is easy to understand one blames themselves for the sexual abuse. Those are well-known facts. But the struggle with your feelings towards your parents... Unless you struggle with it yourself, you can't possibly know.
No one wants to think anyone is capable of hurting a child or multiple children, let alone a beloved entertainer who spent his life helping those less fortunate. But just because we don't want to believe it does not mean it is not true. And it is easy for his family and friends to say he didn't do it, but just because he didn't do it to them, doesn't mean he didn't do it at all. When Eliza Dushku came out with the facts about Michael Weatherly, a few women stood up for him and said "Well, he never sexually harassed me, so it can't be true." That is the most nonsensical argument of all time.
I don't believe my rapist raped every woman he ever met. He is now married with a daughter right around the age I was when he raped me. I was too young to understand what had happened to me; I thought it was love. But an 11 year old cannot give consent. What he did was not ok. But I'm certain if I were to come forward now, he would have loads of women saying it wasn't true because he had never raped them. That doesn't prove he didn't rape me.
And all the voices in the world of people who knew Michael Jackson or just knew of Michael Jackson doesn't mean he didn't do it. It just means he was very careful and knew what he was doing as it very evident by the documentary.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Seasonal Affective Disorder or Winter Blues?
We waited since August of 2017 for new episodes, the final episodes, for this? This episode was the best they could come up with in all that time?
First, you could not see anything for about 95% of the episode. Why was it so dark? You couldn't see who was fighting. You couldn't see where the dragons were flying. You couldn't see which dragon was winning when they were fighting. Did one of the 2 living dragons die? I don't know. I couldn't see what was happening in the episode.
Second, there were so many slow parts of the episode. Move it along. How long does it take for someone to put their helmet on? How long does it take to walk towards someone? How long does it take to pull out a sword?
But third, the action parts were so fast you could not tell what was going on. Did they think by making it happen so fast we would be less likely to think how ridiculous it all was?
Fourth, why was Daenerys, Jon, and the dragons not the first line of defense? Then they finally come in after all the Dothraki were killed. So dumb!
Fifth, did Grey Worm leave all his men outside Winterfell to die?
The only redeeming quality of this episode was that it was finally over. Somehow Arya managed to get past 100,000,000 white walkers to kill their master. No one saw her coming. No one heard her coming. No one tried to stop her. But at least this ridiculous battle that really never should have been won is over.
I myself am preparing myself for the same disappointment I felt with the last season and last episode of Lost. You have all the time in the world to prepare a good story. You have seasons to wrap up story lines. Then the last episode happens and nothing is explained. You walk away utterly disappointed and wishing you could get back every moment of your life that you wasted on this piece of crap so-called entertainment. If their goal is to make you stop watching tv shows altogether, they are succeeding.
The Predator (2018)
Best Predator Movie to Date
I enjoyed this movie. Everything you expected from an action movie. It had some added story line with the one guys family. I found this to be a positive. I know there are those who feel the first Predator is the end all, be all, but I liked this one much more. Guess the original is one you needed to love when the movies were still pretty cliche and cheesy. This version is on par with action films of the current era. Olivia Munn is kick ass!
I Know My First Name Is Steven (1989)
Unbelievable Story
This movie is based on the true story of Steven Stayner. Per interviews, the movie is pretty accurate. It is a heartbreaking story that makes you want to never let your children leave the house again. But Steven is a hero. He is an inspiration. He risked his life to save Timmy White, not knowing what would happen to him. His abductor lied to him, manipulated him, and abused him for years. Steven was forever affected by this as was his family. Even watching this as a child I could empathize with his parents, but as an adult, I could barely handle it.
Corin Nemec was outstanding in this role portraying Steven. It was a far departure from his later role as Parker Lewis. John Ashton plays the hard, but loving father and you can't help but feel his pain. Cindy Pickett is wonderful as the mother who just wants her son home and safe.
If you think this story is enough to rip your heart out, look the family up and see what else they have been through. How one family could survive all of this is beyond me.
The Boy Who Could Fly (1986)
Movie with Heart
I have loved this movie since I was a child. It was one for the first movies I saw with a person who had Autism. The movie deals with the subject matter in a very respectful way. All of the characters are very realistic and very easy to relate to. Each character was worthy of caring about.
This movie inspired me to help in middle school in the peer to peer program. It helped me to broaden my horizons and see the beauty in each and every person.
Jay Underwood and Lucy Deakins are wonderful in their roles. Bonnie Bedelia is outstanding as always. Fred Savage is cute as ever.
Courage (2009)
You need Courage to get through this movie
So, you tell no one where you are going? You hear a storm is coming and take no shelter in the 6 hours before it comes? How far are you sailing, there were plenty or islands to sail to to wait the storm out. You don't use the boat radio to try to contact anyone? You have no survival experience at all? You almost drown your husband/father running away from bear that isn't chasing you? But later this psycho bear decides to follow the people? And you don't hear the gigantic grizzly bear until it is 2 feet from you. That's a smart bear!
There's a ferocious bear on the same island as ship wrecked people, but we'll wait an hour before even leaving to look for them.
Let's see, what else... oh, the doctor's office reruns a pregnancy test? Why? Because those are wrong so often, right! Then gives the results to someone other than the patient? Sure.
I think though what pisses me off the most is the wife saying now her mother has to wait to be a grandmother when she has been married to a man with a daughter for 2 years. Really? This woman couldn't have accepted and loved his daughter as her granddaughter? Now wonder the daughter can't accept her new stepmother if the stepmother and her mother don't accept the daughter.
The Tale (2018)
Amazingly Heartbreaking
Wow. Not an easy movie to watch at all. But it is such a necessary movie to watch for survivors of this type of situation. I also did not want to admit I had been a victim. I wanted to feel it was a consensual act. Looking back on my childhood as an adult makes me sick. Thinking about the older men who showed interest in me when I was 12, 13, 14... When I was that age, I was flattered. An older man liked me and paid attention to me. Now as an adult, I can't imagine looking at a child in such a way. The fact that Jennifer Fox was willing to share her experience this openly is amazing. I don't know that I could expose myself that way. There was a large lump in my chest the whole movie and I was definitely moved to tears and spent a lot of time reflecting on some of my experiences as a child afterwards, but the fact that the predator was such an attractive and nice person outwardly needed to be conveyed as they usually have greasy hair or are balding and are easy for the viewer to identify as untrustworthy. Is it a movie one would need to watch over and over? No. But it is definitely worth one watch. If for nothing more than Isabelle Nélisse. She is an amazing young actress and I can't wait to see her in future movies.
Ouija (2014)
Not as Good as the Prequel / Sequel
I originally gave this movie a rating of 7. I thought there were some good creepy moments and liked the storyline continuing from previous occupants. Then I made the mistake of watching the prequel / sequel first and re-watching the original second. Big mistake. The Origin writers had no idea what the first movie's history was. They did an awful job trying to give us more backstory on the Origin of Evil. But what they did do was have a wonderful child actress, Lulu Wilson, who was eerie and creepy and unsettling, something the original Ouija did not have. None of the cast stood out or acted well. It must have been the directing, because I have seen some of the cast in other things and liked them. This movie pales in comparison to Origin, but Origin sucks because it did not take the history told in this story and use it correctly.
My recommendation, if you like one of these movies, don't watch the other. And if you want to watch both, watch them years apart so you don't remember the inaccuracies. I changed my rating to a 4.
Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)
Sequel Writers Beware!
Did Mike Flanagan & Jeff Howard even watch the first movie? I originally gave this movie a rating of 7. I thought Lulu Wilson was spectacular and creepy. It was an original story and did have some nice creepy moments. Then I made the mistake of watching the first movie. So many inaccuracies from one movie to the next. Origin took place in 1967 as spelled out on the screen. The original movie said the pictures where from the 40s or 50s. The story in the paper in the original stated Doris was 10. In Origin, she specifically told the priest she was 9. In the original, the girls were much closer in age in the pictures. In Origin, they were at least 6 years apart. In the original, "Paulina" claims her mother was the one forcing Doris to let the spirits in and who sewed Doris' mouth shut. In Origin, "Lina" sewed Doris' mouth shut and her mother had nothing to do with the spirits invading Doris. Pauline says in the original movie "Maybe there is more than one spirit", but we know from Origin there were many spirits, all of the people tortured by the doctor. Again, did the writers of Origin watch the original movie?
One other gripe I have: I hate, hate, hate when the vengeful spirits are the victims of someone else. If they themselves were victims of this horrible doctor, why would they then go on to hurt this little girl and her family? Why wouldn't it have been the doctor or the other spirits Marcus had referred to in his writing? That line never makes sense to me. Oh, I was hurt in my life so now I am going to hurt others after I am dead? Bad choice.
Bottom line, don't make a prequel / sequel if it has no bearing on the original. I changed my rating to a 4.
GLOW (2017)
Season 2, What happened?
Season 1 was funny and touching. Season 2 was fingernails on a chalkboard. Very disappointed. I highly doubt I'll ba back for season 3.
Ghosted: The Article (2018)
Was this the finale or what?
As Fox often does, the split up the airing of episodes and ruin the flow of a show. For example, Firefly's episodes were aired out of order on different nights at different time slots. Ruined the chances of a fantastic show. This episode ended so ubruptly. Not really in a cliff hanger, just over. So will there be more episodes? Who knows. But based on the last 4 episodes shown after the hiatus, I personally don't care, because the show is ruined anyway. Whoever changed this show should be fired and never allowed to work in Hollywood again!
Ghosted: The Wire (2018)
What happened?
Six months off the air and it is now a different show. No ghost hunting, just a story line that goes nowhere. A whole office of new characters introduced, but not really because I couldn't tell you one of their names. I liked this show in the first part of the season, but now it is just bad. I won't be back for season 2.
GLOW: The Good Twin (2018)
What happened?
This episode was a full episode of what the viewers of the show would be viewing. I don't know if this episode was completely fictional or actually close to what they would have aired during the real G.L.O.W. But if it was what was aired back then, no wonder no one watched the show. This was awful! I know men's wrestling is very over the top, but why does women's wrestling have to look this ridiculous? It is embarrasing to watch real men's sports versus real women's sports. In the softball games the girls act like children; taunting the other team, throwing fits, crying on the field. It's no wonder men don't take women seriously when they think this is how they act.
I digress, if this was a true to life episode of the real G.L.O.W., I am embarrassed as a woman. If it wasn't, then why did the fictional show subject us to this horrible episode?
Another reviewer compared it to the Buffy musical. As a die hard Buffy fan, I am offended! I would have been happy to watch the episode if it hadn't been so awful, but it was.
