Xi you ji zhi Nü er guo (2018)
This has nothing to do with the book, not with the two previous movies
This movies started so well, with good design, good cgi and a apparently story unfolding to completaly stole at about 30% of it full lenght, into pregnant men, meaning of love and sacrifice through a childish and 200% boring vision to end up, like any action movie this past 10 years, into a giant, useless and pointless cgi battle. I thought that journey to the west 2 by tsui hark was a disaster, after watching this monkey king 3 i should probably raise my rating on it by 1 or 2 points.
Ready Player One (2018)
disjointed, redundant, aimless
A start to fast to seem true, lack of carachter and situation development, lack of real issue to solve, a quest unfolded at a bullet train speed, this final batttle grand final again, bref, an empty movie relaying too much om CGI.
Xi you fu yao pian (2017)
A CGI Garbage bin
No story, no character development, ugly battles and a bad taste CGI festival. The first episode was definitely not the best Chow but this sequel is just a waste of ime and money.
Tai ji 1: Cong ling kai shi (2012)
to much time and money spent on the visual/graphic aspects and not enough on the screenplay/storyline
The movie starts well (for a few minutes only) but it quickly becomes an accumulation of short sequences which leave no place to any serious story/ carachter development, while the action scenes are shoot with what I'd call a below average skill level (the camera shake, turn quickly into many directions but you get no feeling of actually watching peoples fighting together).
also, if you didn't watch yet the first episode, Tai Chi Hero, be aware the the directors and producers had no concern at all about you, as the story line is unfolding hectically without any serious recall of what happens in the previous movie, even if these previous events do affect the plot from the start of this new episode.
the concept looked interesting on the paper, but the outcome is weak, below average and headache to watch kung fu movie.
Man of Tai Chi (2013)
One of the worst martial art movie ever
The scenario/plot is similar to any cheesy and tasteless 80s action movie (can't include martial ART in the description here) with a bit of modern visual/camera style and music. Below average actors all along the movie (especially the fighters, the police team) and a very very very stereotyped and ridiculous performance from Reeves into a silent evil "master".
The sole purpose of this movie seems to give a chance to Keanu to be into a martial/art movie again, with a badass role while almost everything else around that has been done just in a stylish but without soul way.
As per the philosophical aspect, it's about a 13/14 years old level with ultra basic concept which was NOT developed as such.
A ridiculous result and a shame to include Tai Chi in its name.
Ted (2012)
good pop corn comedy with ironic sense
I started to watch this movie without knowing that set mc falrane from family guy was behind this. I therefore didn't place any expectations with this movie. In fact I wasn't even sure if the bear would be kind or more "rude" in the sense of Paul's movie.
This being said, I discover the movie as it came, and I must say that even thought it is not a glorious piece of comedy, still it is a good movie, mixing jokes with the questions related to our modern'age adult who are sometimes still acting like kids after they passed the 30's.
the family guy spirit is there, a bit, with Ted's comment, but it's time to time to my opinion, and Mark Walberg play an average performance which leaves overall an OK experience.
Not a super great movie, but cool to watch, especially if you lived during, or like, the 80s which are a constant reference in the movie.
i rate 7 as 7.5 is not available.
Looper (2012)
Average/Good Experienc
The carachters are solid, good acting all the way through. General atmosphere is quite tense I must say. Murders, torture, fights are plenty but they are putted together with a stylish sense, images and sounds are designed to shock through the movie, at various moments (not a full non stop rate).
Besides this, I would not develop or argue the plot(s), as this review is more for peoples who have not seen it yet than to expose my theory about this or that impossible facts. All in one I found the story to be believable.
My disappointment and reason to note this movie just with a 6, is the general rhythm. It's quite inconsistent, not really flowing, and the "emotional", sincere moments here to develop the psychology of the characters are a bit unconviencing to my opinion.
Not bad in general, felt a bit bored after1h but the ending took eventually things right.
Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)
it's not about time traveling, it's about human feelings
What I can say about this movie, trying to not reveal much about the story, is that time traveling, sci fi side is just the wrapping of the main thing. Instead of time traveling, the same scenario could have been applied for a travel to Antarctica or the preparation of a year end exam, the essence of this movie would have been the same.
So, if you look for an action of sci fi movie, a straight to the point plot, it's maybe better to try to watch something else.
If you look for movies with a sense, talking about human being, real ones like us, talking about their fear, joy, dis-functionality and magic. If you pay more attention to simple sentences said here and there than the feeling of being glued in your seat by the drama or visual effect, then, this movie is probably more for you, and could give you a lot to think about.
The more I watched it, the more I putted the time travel plot on the side and the more I felt interested to have the chance to look at the encounter of two peoples, two real peoples.
I usually like comedies, sci fi and action movies but this one is a gem to my opinion. I didn't get this feeling since little miss sunshine, and safety not guaranteed in fact gave me even deeper thoughts.
Cannot give 7.5 so I rate 7.
Brazil (1985)
Didn't find any masterpiece here but a movie aging not well
To clear it up from the start, I am above 40 years old and quite heard about this movie when it was released. I am quite used to the visual, plots and general style of the 80's 90's movies but this one that I watch for the first time in 2012 cannot take any appreciations from me.
Visually speaking the only word coming to my mind is cheap. In terms of dialogs I would honestly say, with all due respect to the tam who did this movie and peoples who love it, ridiculous. The scene when the main carachter is in the truck wit is dream girl for the first time, when he announce his love for her, is just the weakest set of sentences and whole situation I ever seen in a movie.
As for the plot, it sometimes started to pick up into an interesting point of view about the administration labyrinth, the system weight on individuals but what else from that ? A rebellion, a fight, an acceptance of the situation ? not to me, just a weirdo story without a constructive or productive meaning.
I can perfectly guess and understand that fans might be outraged of such opinion while they are sure that I missed the points, but I could not recommend this movie to anybody. In it times it was maybe revolutionary in many senses but in 2012 I just see a lost of time.
The Fall (2006)
Beautiful pictures but extremely slow pace
I understood quite quickly I believe that this movie was no action pack from Hollywood and that the scene's visual were carrying the biggest part of the movie (maybe in fact I was wrong with this assumption, but that's how I took it). However, the director decided, besides the inception of the friendship between the young girl and the stuntman, to focus the "dream" part on a story of bandits and revenge.
this, to my opinion, was not the most appropriate choice to make. If the landscapes are truly stunning and a rare visual sense is proposed with this movie, I found the story extremely slow and senseless. Revenge, battles, travel, brotherhood, all of this with the speed and the intensity of snail. As the "real world" part made more sense as this happens in a hospital I somehow appreciated more what what they are.
I would only recommend this movie to peoples in search of artistic visual experience while watching a movie, that are ready to sacrifice their interest with a plot.
This movie started greatly for me but turned out to be a true deception after 25mn.
Blazing Saddles (1974)
This must have been good in 1974, but today...
A lot concepts and ideas from this movie will be re-used, developed and boosted years later, especially in airplane ! movies.
Having watched these movies before Blazzing Saddles, I honestly cannot be impressed or get a hell of a funny moment by watching Blazzing.
Still, this probably represents a milestone in gross/absurd comedy movie history, but, as of today, the storyboard work is quite basic and simple, actor's play is fairly good but nothing outstanding, really nothing to keep, in my opinion, as a great piece of cinema to keep on watching 40 years after it was made ,or to consider it a fun movie to watch.
This being said, this must still be a reference for a lots of viewer, I guess those who did watch it or heard about it in the 70's and the high rating is most probably a fair statement, but i would personally reserve this movie for a school study rather that pop corn evening fun moment.
The Avengers (2012)
what a disaster...
huge rating on IMDb, woaw really ? well the movie must be good so...
but...hum... finally, after 2h and something, well it has nothing to do with a 8.7 movie.
Seriously, like it is mentioned in several occasions in other reviews, there is almost zero carachter developments, zero plot, zero reason for these heroes and villains to do what they are doing, who is behind loky, why the invasion, what's at stack on the long run, nothing but a series of pointless discussions and arguing between characters, nothing more.
the scenario is ten times viewed before, the hole in the sky with monster coming to manathan, i mean how long ago was ghostbusters made ? the kind of flying worms are super close to the transformer 3 same type of monsters.
the screenplay/storyboard work are just average, just a few stunning moment,, not epic developments, no just a basic movie for kids, that;s all I can see here.
To be fair and honest, if the rating of this movie would have been what it should be, around 6 to 7, i would have given a 4 or 5 rating but as obviously, some marketing companies are pushing the rates up, I must deliver a simple 1 to contribute to balance things for readers who keeps on looking at the rating before watching this in theatre or buying an expensive blue ray 3d DVD.
Really, a below average action pack movie, nothing more.
Catch Me If You Can (2002)
A smart and educated Crime movie
I didn't really know what to expect when I started to watched this movie. Probably something interesting and fast, based on a true story, benefiting from spielber's experience, but, I just wasn't sure it it would be good.
and in my case it was a good surprise.
Di Caprio and Hanks are playing at a good level. Most of situations are credible, this could haven happen more or less this way.
The secondary carachters like di caprio's mother and fathers are not much developed but that give chance to faster pace and doesn't really harm the viewer involment with the main character. We can kind of understand what pushed the situation to start and develop this way.
There is also no glorification of crimes or criminal, Tom Hanks also doesn't represent a model saint cops leading a crusade against check forgers.
All in one, the story of two opposite personalities, with somehow similar wound and weaknesses, a "smart" crime movie, shown in a fast pace story telling and realistic environment made me arrive at the end to think "is that already finished", which doesn't happens often in my case.
Would recommend it without hesitations.
