Bingo (1991)
A very fun, cute and memorable film about a boy & his dog!
This movie is a fun and in ways, an over the top animal film that stays out of the box. As far as animal movies go, this one is a little different. It's a little crazy and cartoony but it adds to it's charm. Filled with left side humor and jokes that many kids may not get but will enjoy nevertheless due to the cuteness and charm that comes from Bingo the dog himself. Without spoiling anything its an adventure where the boy and his dog get separated... His dog tries his best to track down his friend with which the movie presents most of it's fun and charm with all the crazy adventures Bingos gets up to along the way. Just have a heart, let down your 'tough guy' guard and rent this movie for a cute adventure and enjoy a fun ride the whole family can enjoy (the language is a little strong for the little ones in a couple of parts though. Its suggest parental guidance if they are under 10.) If you can do that, you and your family will definitely enjoy this movie.
Ninja Academy (1989)
Before you give in to the negative reviews you've read about this film, read this: It's underrated!!
First off let me just say this in all honestly; forget the negative and overly harsh reviews you may have read about this. This movie as a comedic and low budget B Grade is without a doubt, underrated!! Yes it's camp, yes it's corny, yes it's a low budget film with unknown actors & certain moments that make little or no sense or could at least have been either edited better or had a few more takes taken but mark my words, if you can watch a movie and not take it too seriously and open yourself up for the potential for a fun and enjoyable time; this is the perfect B-movie! I honestly do not see it any other way and am personally rather shocked at the negativity this film has received so I had to add my thoughts to the internet in an attempt to help balance the scales a little. I rarely take my time to write reviews here but this is a great film but if you are expecting anything profound or monumental within this film, then keep on looking because you will not find it here. What you will find is an ultra light hearted, comedic, slapstick, funny, fun and a highly enjoyable and very cartoony low budget B-grade movie with mega corny yet timeless one liners, a great and unforgettable bunch of characters full of a steady dose of light hearted entertainment, a mostly fast paced progression of a fun yet clichéd story and action, comedic performances which consist of many which are highly quotable and funny for years to come and dare I say it again, FUN! Yes, this movie is without a doubt, fun. Honestly, for comparisons sake I love Police Academy I have the box set & this is just as good as the best of that, and in many ways better. Sit back back, relax and let yourself have a fun time. Check this movie out!!! P.S. For a bit of background if it helps add some weight in any way, some of my favourite movies are The Good The Bag & The Ugly, Scarface, Donnie Darko, The Matrix and True Romance.
The Grudge (2004)
Lights off. Snuggle up to your blanket. Open your mind for this ride! Highly recommended!!
People really need to "get" into it to experience the desired effect. They need to learn how to truly become one with the film while viewing, to absorb the tension and allow the film and atmosphere to "take" you there. They need to open up to a film and "allow" themselves to be scared, to allow the movie to show you whats its really got. That means, lights off, talking to a minimum, good sound, preferably late at night, freeing your mind of thought to allow the film to effectively and properly portray its vision, imagery, tension, ambiance, atmosphere, story etc.
I cant stand people who seemingly on purpose dismiss these general rules of thumb and put up a shield of armor to stop the film/films from achieving what they set out to do, and yet they think they can justifiably say it wasn't scary. I think many people do this because they believe its cool to not be scared of a film, or are afraid there friends will say something like "Ah your a sissy, that wasn't scary!" Don't get me wrong, i'm sure for some reasons, certain films just don't get to certain people, but all to often, it seems more often than not, people fall into this irritating category. Fear can quite easily be avoided consciously and sub-consciously by closing your mind whether intentional or unintentional and by not setting yourself up with the proper atmosphere. Open up to a film! Let the film show YOU what its got, instead of showing the film what you can avoid.
I don't care what anyone says: this film is a work of genius laced with an imagination that goes far and beyond what most could even possibly begin to think up. The directing style was original and the story was told with enough to get you up to date with whats going on but with enough left out to keep the mystery alive and to keep you thinking. The imagery was truly astounding. I could go on but ill just say, yes, to me and most i know, it was scary as hell!! I would not watch it by myself, but i recommend it if you really wanna "fun" ride! :) Overall: Awesome, i loved it! My 2cents.
