Dahmer (2002)
Could've been so much better
If you have read a bit about Dahmers life before watching this movie, as I have, then you will definitely be disappointed. The man was notorious for eating some of his victims and performing twisted acts on and with the remains, yet there's no or almost no reference to that in the movie.
Despite that, Jeremy Renner did a great acting job, so the movie wasn't too boring, I just expected so much more of it. You can see it as the "light version" of Dahmers life.
What bugged me the most, was the abrupt ending: you're still waiting for things to happen and then the movie just stops... really frustrating!
So a 6 out of 10 it is for me. Could have been much better!
Black Moon (1975)
plain weird
OK, now this has got to be one of the weirdest movies I have ever seen.
Bottom line: there is NO storyline at all.
The movie starts with a young woman fleeing from soldiers who apparently want her dead. So far so good you might think. Well, maybe not for that poor girl, but at least you start identifying with her and you still have the idea that this will lead somewhere and that eventually, you will be granted complete and total illumination. Trust me, you will not.
She ends up in a farmhouse and from this point on, things get quite fuzzy for my brain. You probably should be under the influence of some kind of substance to make any sense of it all: all figures other than the young woman seem to appear and disappear at random. Animals can talk (if you take LSD they might), twisted acts are being performed and there's an annoying old lady who must have escaped from a nut-house.
If you try, you probably can attach a deep meaning to what you are seeing, but as for me, I just can't see it you know, being sober and all...
It almost seems like an attempt to visualize a bad dream. The kind of dream where you desperately want to awake from, realizing it wasn't real. The movie is real. Avoid it, unless you have a pharmacy or a liquor-store nearby.
Progeny (1998)
a bit disappointing
I had high expectations for this movie, but unfortunately it didn't live up to it.
The storyline was OK, not "Oh my god, I've never seen anything like this before"-OK, but just plain OK, so if you are into these type of movies, you might like it, even though there are much better movies available in this genre.
The poor acting really annoyed me and is solely responsible for my 5 out of 10 score. Unlike other movies I've seen starring Arnold Vosloo, he didn't impress me at all in Progeny: it seemed like instead of distributing the Valium to his patients, he probably ate it as candy himself...
And casting Wilford Brimley as a doctor: who's idea was that??? With all due respect for the man and his acting qualities, playing a doctor just doesn't match his physique!
Jillian McWhirter on the other hand did a great job!
So was I glad that I saw this movie? Yes, but only because it adds another movie to my watch-list and because now I know for sure that I won't watch it a second time, except maybe to see Jillian McWirthers beautiful body again ;)
