Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
this was not brilliant...
I don't know how in the WORLD this film received 7.5 out of 10! This was such an insult to the original "Willie Wonka" that it should make Gene Wilder want to spit! The plot was ridiculous, the songs were lame, the script stunk, I mean I can't figure out what Burton was on when he threw this together. I know it made a lot at the box office because everyone anticipated that it would have been as excellent as the first, but to come to this website and see that it received this many votes, who in the world are you people? It was the worst 40 minutes of my life! 40 MINUTES BECAUSE I SPENT THE REST OF THE TIME FAST FORWARDING THROUGH THE THING! I am just truly embarrassed at how sad this film was and how very boring! When I think back to the 1970's version I remember being filled with happiness and contentment, what a beautiful tale, and how very entertaining! I mean everything about it! My cousin and I can still quote the entire film and still find it HILARIOUS! Then we have this present day flop where they duplicated the ugliest midget they could find OVER 1,000 times! Talk about saving money! I realize Johnny Depp has only been in about 3 good movies in his whole career, I should have remembered that before I rented this film! Do yourself a favor and see the ORIGINAL! Never mess with excellence!
Chrystal (2004)
please do not bother
I gave this movie a "2" out of respect for Billy Bob Thornton, but it was embarrassingly awful! I don't know if "slow" can be used to describe the film, perhaps "pointless" is a better fit! In the beginning it reminded me of "The Gift", which I feel was a very good movie, but by the climax, (if there was one), I began to feel terribly infuriated by my mother who suggested we watch the film and who later fell asleep 45 minutes into it. I read the other comments and if you loved, "O brother, where art thou", than you would surely be captivated by this film. But, if you like movies with some sort of plot, save your dime- this ain't it! You have been warned! The writer should really stick to acting and portraying cops, he's much better at it!
The Village (2004)
Was "The Sixth Sense" really his?
I must admit after seeing my last M. Night film I have to wonder how in the world he is linked to a movie as awesome as "The Sixth Sense"!
If you're thinking about going to see "The Village" please-- DON'T BOTHER! After about 20 minutes I knew exactly what this film was about and where it was going. For a minute, I even thought it was "Blair Witch 3" which would have been a heck of a lot more interesting!
All of Shyamalan's film seem to have the same twists and concepts. But they seem to be more and more predictable with each new film. This film was definitely lacking intrigue. It was slow, the short scenes didn't add to the story, and it was just flat out boring! And when you finally got to the big climax - it was like, "oh."
M. Night CHANGE THE CONCEPT! It's all just been so wrong: "Unbreakable" - wrong, "Signs" -wrong, "The Village" RIDICULOUSLY wrong!!! So save your dollars or rent "Sixth Sense" again because it's clear - Shyamalan may never hit those heights of brilliance again!
Le locataire (1976)
Wal-Mart, $5.88 special. Does this tell you anything?
Hey, mind if I join in? Well, I bought this movie at Walmart for $5.88 a couple of months ago and just got around to watching it tonight. Since I already own "The Pianist" and "Rosemary's Baby" (which is probably one of my favorite horror flicks of all time), I thought, hey, I stumbled across something here!
Unfortunately, not the case. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Polanski fan! I believe he is extremely talented both as actor and director, (hell, it's the only reason I bought the film), but I wasn't quite as captivated as I am with the aforementioned films. More than anything, I thought it was well acted and quite amusing. Sorry, I didn't really experience any feelings of terror or suspense for that matter. If you didn't know what was wrong with this guy, you must've been nodding off. Mind you, if this was 1976 when I was four and cult classics such as "Bug", and "Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things" were on sets every Saturday night, then this movie would have been eerie as hell. However, it just doesn't hold it's own like a "Rosemary's Baby", if you will. I have watched this film repeatedly and I'm still captured by the acting, the story, the music, the 60's--I love it!!!
With that said, I would recommend seeing the "The Tenant" aka "Le Locataire", (Polanski is a natural), I just wouldn't expect too much!
