The Watchful Eye (2023)
The only show I'm anxious for each week
Is this a masterpiece? No. Is it incredibly entertaining? Yes. It's a slower build, but well-done overall.
The main character is actually not my favorite, I think she's kind of annoying and not a great actress, but the story keeps hooking me in week after week.
My goddess Kelly Bishop is in this, who you may know from Gilmore Girls, Dirty Dancing, or a million other things. Yes, there are some plot holes (or what seem to be so far). But then the attention to detail with costume and set design is on point, so I'll forgive that.
Ultimately, I am entertained and engaged, and that's really all I want from a television show.
Fire Country: Get Some, Be Safe (2022)
This episode felt mostly tedious
This episode felt mostly tedious. I honestly didn't care about the horse, it would obviously be very sad if the horse died and I would prefer that not happen, but I couldn't wrap my head around how unforgivably stupid the girl and her mom were. They kept putting everyone in mortal danger because they wouldn't leave the stubborn horse, which ultimately just made me hate them. Jake is such a smarmy, self-righteous jerk who doesn't deserve anything good. Bode saves the day again. He needs to work on his communication, though. The girl and her mom are currently tied with Jake for being the absolute worst people on this show 🙄😂
Ginny & Georgia (2021)
Just fast forward through the Ginny parts
Overall, I have truly enjoyed this show. But I've also found myself skipping a lot of the teenager parts. This show doesn't quite seem to know who it's target audience is, and so the balance is off. It is definitely, absolutely NOT a family show. You're either watching for Ginny or for Georgia. There's a fairly significant amount of teenage sex, especially of the unprotected variety. Lots of high school drama that just feels tedious. Overall, way too much time spent on the teenagers and their melodrama. I honestly don't much care, especially when I'd rather be watching Georgia. Georgia's plots, on the other hand, are extremely engaging and so much more interesting! Every adult character is compelling. I even adore every love interest for Georgia. As other reviews have said, even by teenager standards, Ginny is an awful character. She devolves so much that it would be tragic if only it were more interesting. Tune in for Georgia's storylines, be judicious in what you waste time on with Ginny's.
A Gift Wrapped Christmas (2015)
I NEED a sequel 😩
I loved this movie so much that I purchased it. It's well-produced visually, but the actors also all do a fantastic job. The chemistry between the leads was so great!! The kid was also charming, which isn't always the case with child actors. The plot also felt natural, not completely contrived like so many of these types of movies do these days. I especially adore Meredith Hagner's character - she just felt so genuine! I do feel that the ending was a bit too abrupt, and here we are seven years later and I'd just sooooo love a sequel! A well-rounded and (mostly/Victoria) likable cast, including Beverly Mitchell of Seventh Heaven fame, who was such a great pairing as Gwen's sister. Come on, Lifetime!
Moonhaven (2022)
Not for me, but there is an audience for this
I want to be clear, I do think there are many people who will enjoy this show. Despite being a fan of sci-fi, I am not one of them. I tried, but ultimately couldn't even get through the first episode. It appears to be well-produced, but couldn't quite capture me. The beginning felt like an info dump and I couldn't connect with any of the characters. I do think there's a strong audience out there for it. It's just too slow and too... serious? I'm not sure whether that's the word I'm really looking for but it's simultaneously too serious and not intense enough, which left me waiting for something to happen and ultimately bored.
Give it a shot, see if it's for you - it very well may be!
Madam Secretary (2014)
So great until Season 4, one particular plot notwithstanding
This is one of my all-time favorite shows, but it goes severely downhill in Season 4. The addition of Sara Ramirez was both unnecessary and off-putting - and I'm a big fan of the actor's work in Grey's Anatomy. But that entire role here just felt so preachy and tedious. I strongly disliked the character even when you remove the gender politics from it all. The character was somehow simultaneously overly aggressive and just so boring/tedious that I literally fast forward through all of their storylines upon rewatch. I simply don't care. I'm seeking entertainment, not a social lesson, and that plot line crossed it for me. HOWEVER.
SPOILERS.....
The return of my sweet baby Dmitri salvaged a LOT of goodwill with me! That character and his arc were such an engaging and fulfilling plot! I've rarely been so invested or cried so hard at a tv show. Season 4 and beyond still have plenty of lovely things to offer, but Sara Ramirez's obnoxious and smug character nearly ruined it. Present and future political dramas take note, we enjoy the drama even when we don't agree, but this whole woke agenda is honestly so, so boring.
