Suspect (1960)
Paranoia & science
Watching this one made me wonder about the contrast between the state and morality. I found this ahead of its time considering the year it was made. In the proceeding decade from that, attitudes of being fancy free were in the forefront of people's minds, yet big brother was stewing in the background. It also delves into the human psyche as a side issue. I guess it's all about government interference in science, and how scientists respond to it. The former is selfish through paranoia and the latter feels the powers that be can not see the human side that would be for the benefit of all mankind.
Pánico en el Transiberiano (1972)
A pleasant surprise
Seldom I review movies on here, but every now and then I review a movie after seeing it if certain things jump out at me. It has an atmospheric zest this one does, with the right level of suspense. Though a dated criteria in the plot the strength of characters portrayed & their talent makes it work. Also the balance is right here between the serious side of the story & the occasional cliché of humour to lighten the seriousness in the sequences. It is refreshing to see a movie, not too violent and free of sexual exploitive scenes that we find in many movies of the time in the horror genre. Worth the viewing journey.
Phase IV (1974)
Collective intelligence & evolution
An interesting premise here when a war of atricion breaks out between an ant colony & a two manned research facility. A stray girl comes into the fray that I think is there for eye candy who is worked into the script. The movie maintains interest and it becomes quite clear how it's going to end in the last twenty minutes. Worth the viewing journey.
The Cassandra Crossing (1976)
Decision Of Conscience
A movie that brings it home to you that moral decisions are often not taken through fear. Solid performances all around but one of those movies that you know how it's going to end well near enough. Despite not being one of the first disease outbreak movies it packs a punch and a lot more realistic then similar themed movies.
