Standard Con film with snappy editing
25 March 2004
Confidence like most con movies is story driven. Of course there are the twists that make you think ahead as well as think behind. But what really separates this movie from the other con movies is the snapping editing. The scenes flow into each other and are full of sound and motion. The movie is only 97 minutes and it keeps the audience engaged through-out. The story is nothing special but is believable due to some solid acting from the leads. The supporting cast is good for the most part. Dustin Hoffman is particularly entertaining (not great) in this movie.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes con films and modern fast paced crime flicks.

Excellent realism and character
24 March 2004
Harvery Keitel does an excellent job portraying a dirty cop. This dirty cop is not only the main character of this movie but is in fact the only real character of the film. The camera leaves Keitel only once or twice through out the entire movie. As the camera follows Keitel it tells shows his character excellently as a very realistic and trouble cop. It shows his character by following him through one of his ghastly cases. It is a very realistic portrayal of a New York City's cop struggle to stop his wicked ways with a underlining religious theme.

The movie is only 98 minutes long but most likely will bore anyone who requires action and story. The content of the film earned it a NC-17 rating (My first NC-17 rental). The rating is due primarily due to nudity however it is from for a porno. I would recommend to any Harvey Keitel fans. Also recommended to anyone who enjoys character based films and as a strong constitution.

Weak Storytelling
23 March 2004
Wings is a silent film dedicated to the airmen in World War I who lost their lives during service. Fortunately it is more than just a propaganda film. The film focuses on three main characters: Two young men who go off to war and join the aviators and a woman who joins as a nurse. The story is told in rather abrupt chucks and lacks the smooth flow from scene to scene. The characters develop at unnatural stages because of the story telling. The story itself is interesting and if told right would be excellent. However due to poor editing the film seems unnatural and boring at times. I would recommend this film to anyone who interested in silent films or the development of war movies.

Would suggest over this:

For Old Propaganda War Movie: Sergeant York

For Old War Movie: All Quiet on the Western Front

For Silent Film with Good Editing: Metropolis

A possible great film but comes up short
20 November 2003
This movie what it takes to be a great film but comes up slightly short. The acting was for the most part great. Sean Penn does a great job with the exceptions of a few scenes where he overdoes it. Tim Robbins is back on the top of his game (reminds me of his performance in Jacob's Ladder). And Kevin Bacon well he is the same as he was in `Wild Things' ... Ok but not great. The supporting cast for the most part did an excellent job. Fishburne acted well but not great. And the kids didn't mess up the film with terrible acting either (always a plus).

What are the shortcomings of this film? Simply put: it could have been adapted from the book much better. The movie is about 2.5 hours. Yet, the movies would have to be at least 3.5 hours long to correctly cover all of the points it attempted to hit. They should have dropped certain elements that they tried to touch on and focused more on the necessary ones. On a last note the ending could have been better. Much better. It wasn't terrible, but definitely not good.

Recommended to all drama fans. And anyone who doesn't mind watching a 2.5 hour movie that is well done with good acting but not much action.

Solid Movie
19 November 2003
Double Indemnity is a solid movie.

The acting is good. The plot is well thought out. But to top things off the entire way the movie is portrayed is excellent (the use of the narrator).

Recommended to anyone and everyone. Warning the movie is not action filled and might seem slow to some at times.

really funny movie
18 November 2003
I have heard so much bad talk about this movie. I have seen this movie at least 10 times now and I love it. Yes the lines are hard to understand but honestly this adds to the humor. Peter Sellers does an excellent job of acting as a buffoon. It is his acting and the odd script that make this movie so funny.

I would recommend this movie to anyone and everyone. Just except a funny somewhat slack-stick humor based movie.
